@toomuchtoomuch none on youtube, but i have every race he and Sterling Marlin(my dad's favorite) ever won since 1994 on vhs, and i went to his 1994 NHS win as my first ever race...vintage live broadcasts, and all are still in mint quality, with no problems on the playback
As for the Chevy/Ford argument, Chevy has done more bitching throughout its entire history than any other manufacturer. NASCAR has loved Chevy so much over the years since its inception that its caused Ford and Dodge to pull out of the series over a large portion of time. I can't stand Toyota now, but it would be funny if all of the GM horror stories would come true about them having to pull out of racing due to the economy.
This was my 1st cup race...i was 8...back in my kyle petty days.....i have the gatorade check and hat that terry labonte received 4 an award for this race during the pre race/ driver intros as well!!
I want to point out how the Ford drivers did nothing but complain all year about how they needed more spoiler to compete and the chevy had an advantage, yet the fords swept the top 4 here. what a bunch of babies.
Oh yeah and Chevy isnt? Remember the non stock plexiglass fastback they received in the 80s when Bill was blowing their doors off? Hell at least those Fords that swept the top 4 have a stock body. That Monte Carlo was so far from stock it wasn't even funny. And wasn't it Chevy that swept the top 3 at Daytona? Who's the cry baby again?
Thanks for responding to a comment I made 4 months ago. You can't tell me the '97 ford is more stock than the '97 Chevy. they are both FAR from it. More importantly: who gives a shit? It's racing. All I was saying was that they bitched all year long, and didn't really need to because they were in decent shape with how the car was. They just had unlucky breaks.
This is the first time I watched this video, so sorry your comment was four months ago. Now granted, they bent up the T-bird for aero but it was still factory sheet metal. But I'm not calling you a liar, Ford did bitch that season but GM's done their fair share of whining as well.
The 1989-94 Luminas were a lot closer to stock then those 1995 and later Monte Carlos were. Not to mention the traction control device that Gordon used until 1999 when NASCAR finally inforced the rule against them on the 24.
I have been to every Dover race since 95. My first was 93 but this was by far the best race I've ever seen at this track. I miss the 500 miles it always got interesting with top guys blowin motors. You never new what to expect.
You can't really tell from the broadcast, but was the crowd into it the last few laps? I was guessing that after the frontrunners crashed, a lot of people last excitement. Were there a good deal of people cheering Ricky on?
Hell yeah, it was crazy. Its not to often you have a race like that. You thought the winner was going to be Jarrett or Gordon hands down and then they wrecked. Then Ernie Irvan took a comanding lead and lost it into turn 2. Then Rudd took over and the rest is on video. This all happened with less then 70 to go. The crowd I think was more into the exciting finish then anything. Martin and Rudd are two class acts, but the fans roared for Ricky once the checkard dropped.
I was at this race as well. Been to every race at the Monster since 1990 and this might have been the most wild one ever. The final 100 laps were insane. Every 10 laps it seemed someone different was going to win. Also memorable because it was the final 500 miler which they couldn't do now since they don't start the damn race until 2 pm.
BTW Fordoutlaw, Ernie actually spun between 3 and 4.
Would you be able to burn the Gordon / Jarrett accident? I've looked all around for it but can not find it. In my opinion, this was one of the best Dover races ever.
Such a crazy race, with Jarrett and Gordon getting into each other, DJ remaining in the lead despite the damage but blowing an engine, and Irvan crashing while leading only a handful of laps later...
Have to respect what a clean racer mark is. He gave up several wins in the name of racing clean, takes a big man to do that

i love how Mark got that huge run on Rudd, and could've easily wrecked him and won, but he drove with class and let up so he didnt wreck.

been hooked ever since.Irvan wiped out
on some oil that only he saw.Miss all these
old drivers who used to settle things on the
track and not whine to reporters after races
about how they got f****d.

Martin needed to knowck his ass out the way
ghostfan84 3 years ago
Yeah, Mark never won a title because he was too conservative. Sometimes you have to use the chrome horn.
davewah3 3 years ago 2
He needs to drive like Busch or get even dirtier like Earnhardt and wreck everything in his way!
GoMarkGoPack 2 years ago
That isn't Mark's style, he has built his entire career on being a clean driver and feels like he is stealing when he does that.

Yes. I have the entire race on VHS, but only burned this portion due to my Ricky Rudd bias.
