  • THANKS!!

  • The grinding stopped but the disc still won't read.

  • you are freaking awesome dude

  • Thank you so much for sharing this with us , tomorrow I'll get the tape . I think its electronics tape ?

  • Hey can I use plain scotch tape?

  • @theblackphenom98 yeah you should be able to

  • it worked!!!! thanks man :)

  • @MrBgosal :)

  • Holy crap! It still grinds just a tiny bit, but barely, and now the game will actually play! I'm soo freaking happy! Thank you!

  • OMG!!!......it worked!

  • @longobassman glad it worked :)

  • This worked. Now I can play Fight for NY!

  • @Jwoodill2112 glad it worked. Have fun :)

  • Is that the thing where the disc spins fast like crazy?

  • @unstopabble428 I'm not too sure what you're getting at. if the disc is spinning really fast, it's a bigger problem. But if it's "slipping", this video should be a quick fix

  • @fatps2repairvids I mean that it spins fast than the DVD-ROM Discs and the system heats up. :O But I would like to try you're quick fix thingy.

  • @unstopabble428 I hope it works for you!

  • Watch my video to fix the grinding noises and loading problems on your ps2 for good. All it takes is replacing the simple little white plastic laser gear which is fastened directly to the laser with a 4 way screw. This piece wears over time from constant contact with the worm gear which moves the laser back and forth by means of 2 little teeth on that white laser gear. I hear you can even heat the piece up bending it back into posistion and use white grease to lube up the worm gear and it works.

  • @matt78tv My videos aren't the place to promote yourself. Also, I already have a video explaining that.

  • @fatps2repairvids Promote myself???? I'm just trying to help people I don't expect nothing in return.

  • @matt78tv Well you're posting about your videos on the comments of mine. I don't like when people do that. My videos aren't the place for it. Sorry

  • @fatps2repairvids I apologize then but feel free to post any helpful comment you want on my videos.

  • @matt78tv I sounded a bit rude and I apologize for that. I won't post any comments on your videos.

  • @fatps2repairvids No problem man :D

  • Did not work when I attempted it. It stops the game from making that sound, yes, but it still does not read the disk.

  • @AnimalCarnage I'm sorry that it did not work for you. But I never said it would read the disc. I said it would help with the grinding. Your laser must be dirty, or it is probably dying.

  • this comment is for all of you peaple out there with a "broken' playstation 2: if your playstation 2 "breaks" get an original xbox because the games and parts such as dvd player remotes that enable you to watch videos and the controllers are cheap plus the system is built to last i have had mine for years now and the only problem i had with it was i had to clean the disk tray pully i dont know if you know that much about game systems but that is pretty darn good condition for as old as it is.

  • @nathan3227 agreed. The old XBOX were tanks

  • FINALLY!!! Because of you, i can finally play Ico, Contra: Shattered Soldier and Mister Mosquito and take out the idea of buying a slim ps2. A million thums up!!!

  • @rokuken :)

  • Didn't want to take ps2 apart. this is amazing!

  • @DeathlyTri :)

  • mine does this

  • doesn't work

  • @360haloman Never said it would work. It's a temporary fix and not promised to work for everyone.

  • Comment removed

  • @MsCrazytots Give it a shot. It should work. it can't hurt.

  • @MsCrazytots You can. I taped My Gran Turismo 1 Disc with normal tape and it Worked. Takes longer to load though.

  • After nearly a decade, (wow, has it been that long already?) I have had this problem with some of my discs, but never thought it was related to the blue disc color. On the PS2 slim runs it just fine, but mine, nope. :/

This little tape thing did the trick, and I thank you, my good sir. :)

  • @AMVloverbri No problem, glad it worked :]

  • It worked, but only for some games..not sure why.

  • I tried this and it didn't work. I have a model SCPH-50001 "fat" ps2, and ised both painter's and scotch tape. Any other ideas that could help me? many thanks.

  • @blahblahoww123

Looks like you need to either clean your laser, buy a new disk, or buy a new ps2.

  • HAHA ^^ had ready to rumble 2 boxing and was gonna open up the ps2 and clean. the tape trick worked and it didnt make a single noise when reading this time. good tip :)

  • @kball69

    Thank you :)

  • Thank you! Your solution and actually worked. I'm so glad I didn't even have to open up any of the inner workings of my ps2. Plus, I was able to repair my favorite games I thought I would never be able to play again!

  • No problem! (BTW This is fatps2repairvids, I'm just logged in to my regular account lol)

  • I tried a green masking tape, not the one you mentioned. My dad's been alittle whack to even buy me painters tape. But when I do get it, I'll let you know. :D

  • yeah that might be a little too thick lmao xP

  • Thank you, :DD

  • You're welcome, did it work? :)

  • Gah, I'm confuesd. ;_;

I want to be able to play my Harvest Moon games; yeah, don't ask. xD And its a blue disc one. :o and I have the fat PS2, so do I use any kind of tape?(:

  • yea any kind should work but I dont recommend duct tape as it is pretty thick, painters tape (blue, like used in this video) or scotch tape or packing tape should work.

  • I've a question.Can the ps2 slim silver be chipped?

  • yes but I dont know how to chip

  • Hey fat ps2 repair guy can you help me with some thing my ps2 reads my ps1 game perfect on time, but then I turned it off and pack on and it didn't work any way to fix it???

  • If it doesn't make any strange noises then it sounds like you need to clean the laser or get a new disc perhaps. If cleaning the laser doesn't work, or a new game doesn't work, your ps2 needs to be replaced. Sorry I don't have any laser cleaning vids, I don't have the time anymore, but there are plenty already on the internet and that includes youtube.

If it makes loud grinding or scraping noises, try this trick.

  • What game were you playing.

  • demo of jak and daxter. i dont play it, I dont care about it thats why i used it b/c I wouldn't care if it got scratched.

  • thx

  • Anytime.

  • Well, I know how you feel. I have 2 ps2s, 30001 model and 50001 Model * or something to that extent. The 30, Im gonna have to send it in. IT WONT READ ANYTHING, Disc read error all I get.

Now my good ps2, the 50001 one, great with PS1, great with PS2, but it makes a LOUD noise when I play any blue disc game, tried the tape trick, still LOUD noise. Itll play, but it sounds REALLY loud the entire time. Are blue discs just doomed!?

  • If it's a grinding noise, it needs a new magnet. However, a humming noise is normal, this is because the ps2 spins a cd based game faster than a dvd based game.

  • BTW is the 30001 a ten screw model? Just curious. (does it have 8 or 10 screws on the bottom.) Just wondering how old it is. Date code?

  • hi is that ps2 the 30001?

  • nah 39001

  • please help me!!!! idk if u can i have a ps2 the big one and every time i put in a new game it scratches my game making a circle around it can u help me

  • It seems that your laser is too close to the disk. Opening the console and turning the white gear to lower it will probably solve that issue. However, I cannot test this due to my camera not working as of now. But there are TONS of tutorials on the internet on how to solve that problem.

    Sorry if I wasn't much help=/

  • thanks but i bought a new one lol

  • Do you still have your old fat one? You could sell it on eBay for at least 20 bucks. Your problem is definitely fixable.

  • i just got a new one i broke the other one even more cuz i was mad

  • I have a PS2 Fat (SPCH-30004) and it will not play certain disks (disks known to work due to being tested in other systems). Help would be apreciated :)

    thanks

  • Date code please, and what color discs will it not play. have you ever opened it? Has it ever been sent to Sony?

  • i opened it, it all looks fine (Cant get hold of date code, was removed by previous user). it has now started grinding CD's near the beginning of the disk. (does it especially on Practice Mode of GH3)

  • GH3 is a silver backed DVD disc, I'm pretty sure. Is it leaving a circle scratch on the disc?

  • yes, and i can hear it grinding and fail to load. the fringing sounds like the disk is not flat on the moteor, and the scraches are only on one half of the disk

  • You may have to adjust the white gear in the ps2 to lower the laser. Unfortunately, I can't be much help, because I have never had this problem, so I don't know how to fix it...but there is plenty of help online showing how to do it.

  • ok. cheers mate. will try that next time i go to use it (if not dead by then)

  • Ok, hope it works.

  • I have adjusted the white gear. it was clicking as i was turning it, is this normal?

it did lower the lazer assembly, and it works fine now, no more grinding!! thanks dude. will send anyone with FatPS2 problems to ya :)

  • Yea the clicking is very good, it means its turning lol. Thanks!

  • wow i did it and it WORKED i was amazed thanks dude

  • No problem, thank you for the positive feedback=]

  • i dont now what laser but ps2 is fat

  • Ok. Try changing the position of the ps2. If its flat, stand it up. If its standing, lay it flat. if not, you may have to get inside and adjust the white cog. plenty of tuts online, but I've never had this problem before so I can't suggest. Also, what is your ps2s model number/date code? Believe it or not, that matters as even though some ps2s have the same model, the insides are different based on the date code.

  • my ps2 scrathing a games i am clean a laser but ps2 agin scrathing games what to do???

  • that stinks. is this a fat or slim ps2? Model number and date code please, as I can be able to tell what laser you have. I might be able to help after you give me the scph number and date code.

  • try turning the ps2 to the other position. if it's standing, lie it flat, if it's flat, stand it up. if not, you may have to adjust the white gear inside of it.

  • I was getting the grinding problem with two PS1 games. I did this fix and now they both work perfectly, thanks very much. I can now play FFVI and Soul Reaver again!

  • No problem and thank you for the positive feedback!

  • I posted the real fix for the grinding when I discovered it..its the little white magnet in the drive cover. it wears out and doesn't grip the lighter cdrom discs (blue ps2 and black ps1) and causes the noise.

What is the scph number of your ps2?

  • hey this fixed my 30001/R model thx! also my other one 35001 wouldnt play the black ones but i cleaned the lense thx!!

  • ps my friend has the skinny one its 70012 and she cant play movies on it=/

  • No problem. Unfortunately I don't know much about the slimline series of the PS2...all I can recommend is a lens cleaning, or replacement. I never owned a slimline or fixed one, ( I got a 70012 from gamestop that was used, and it didn't even turn on!!!) so I'm not going to give you advice that'll make things worse =P. There is help online though, or send it to sony for 45 bucks.

  • what if it dont play them at all=[

  • Then your lens may need need cleaning or replacement. Sooner or later I'll have a video. But there is plenty of tuts floating around on the internet.

You may have to send it to sony for 45 bucks like I'm gonna do next week.

  • hopefully ill get a slimline xPPPPPP

  • nah i asked them that and they said "model for model". in other words youll get another 50001/n back while i'll get another 39001 back. i dont know if youll get the same date code but i dont think that matters.
