  • Nope, I've tried it all. After sifting through all kinds of internet folk lore I tried everything to get smells out of fermenting buckets, oxyclean, etc, etc. The absolute best stuff is Powdered Brewery Wash, and sanitize with Star San. If that don't do it, you'll just have to replace your bucket. Yes, it is a bit more expensive. But when you clean and sanitize properly it makes of world of difference in the flavor of your beer. I have tested this personally with repeat batches.

  • Do you think this would work on a fermenting bucket? Ya know like a 5 gal bucket? I made a cherry wheat beer and it cant get the wretched smell out of it.

  • I like One Step and Easy Clean. I think the Easy Clean is the same thing as One Step, yet it's cheaper. I use it all the time, especially on anything plastic. I feel more comfortable letting things soak in Easy Clean/One Step because Star San is an acid, so I only use that on glass.

  • @pauswa1966 You can use Easy Clean, One Step, Powdered Brewery Wash (PBW) on Better Bottles. Soaking the better bottles in PBW after secondary fermentation does a better job of eliminating odors from fermentation AND dry hopping. I usually soak them for a couple hours or overnight depending on how filthy they are or smell. Don't be afraid to use Star San, if you mix the solution properly it WILL NOT harm your Better Bottle. My Better Bottles have at least 30 Star San washes and my beer is amazin

  • @uTubeTerror No problem. I don't recommend Oxiclean because it leaves a chemical residue behind that can easily embed itself into any nook it finds and not easy to rinse. If you are not thorough when you rinse the oxiclean, chemicals could be left behind that could put some funky flavors in your beer. This stuff is called Easy Clean No Rinse Powdered Cleanser by LD Carlson. This stuff will not harm your beer if anything is left behind. You can find it on the net if there is not local brew shop.

  • I should have left it dirty so you all could see how well it works. Leave a comment if it worked really well for you. Keep in mind I always clean my better bottle no more than 20 minutes after I auto siphon to my secondary fermenter or auto siphon into my bottling bucket so the build up doesn't have time to get crusty

  • You might have to repeat the process two or three times for serious build up.
