  • Was this clip from a documentary? From a filmography view point, that cinematography was gorgeous and the camera work spot on. The shot of the plumes of smoke on the mirrored salt flats is seriously one of the coolest openings I've ever, and I mean EVER seen to a racing documentary, if it is one.

  • Pussy car!!! I can paddle faster on my tricycle!!!

  • They're recording from a SSC AERO TT.

I know dat supersonic shet, Likeaboss.

  • what if it ran over a rabbit? D:

  • @OyonTheAdept Very flat rabbit . . next question.

  • @dcwhitworth

I think you mean very dead driver, and utterly destroyed car.

  • @TheeGrandmaster The car weighs ten tons, a rabbit is unlikely to cause much trouble. Anyway there aren't rabbits in the Black Rock desert.

  • @OyonTheAdept the rabbit would explode before that car even hit it :O

  • Holy shit!

  • 0:44 : "We've done it." Pretty much sums it up in the course of human accomplishments..

  • @Schtuppit Actually it's "We've got it !", Andy Green was referring to the parachute opening correctly, something it hadn't done on previous runs. He knew it was a crucial moment, meaning they'd be able to turn the car around in time for a second run - a rare show of emotion from him.

  • hmmm, i was looking for an economical and environmentally friendly car... but the sonic boom's a bit too noisy for my liking.

  • this car takes a shit on a ferrari

  • WOW thats all i can say

  • This isn't a car this is basically a vehicle in the shape of a rocket with 2 aviation engines whcked on the back and they call this a car...WTF are they insane

  • @boomerang403 Point taken - all LSR cars look irregular, although the shape is usually dictated by science and not design. As for a definition of SSC, the word 'car' would appear to be accurate. Although I must say that to question the vehicle's definition is perhaps missing the point a little.

    car [kɑː]

    n

    1. (Engineering / Automotive Engineering) A self-propelled vehicle designed to carry passengers, esp one with four wheels that is powered by an internal-combustion engine

  • how does it go this fast on bike wheels???

  • Titanium wheels !!! LIKE A BOSS

  • imagine if your breaks stall.

  • If this is a car, then what the beautifull fuck do I drive?

  • soo fuk^^king cool!!

  • British engineering at it's best.

  • @GamersHaveALife tell somebody who cares

  • @NorthWolfs You sound like you need a hug.

  • @GamersHaveALife And do I give a fuck? No. Get a life

  • @NorthWolfs Says who ? The FIA say it meets their criteria for a land speed record. There's a separate record for wheel driven cars

  • @NorthWolfs Oh well, why didn't you say so before ? I'll contact the FIA at once !

  • @NorthWolfs

    LOL!

    what a brat you are

  • @dcwhitworth you meen piston driven cars not wheel driven cause obviously the SSC has wheels but is not piston driven.

  • @xxTHEmuffinSNIPERxx Nope, wheel driven, as in the power goes through the wheels. Thrust SSC's wheels weren't driven, they merely rotated while the jet engines drove it forwards.

  • Why do people keep going on about chuck Norris ? It's not even funny ??

  • chuck norris's orgasm

  • @KellieSmunt

NO FUN ALLOWED!: The Entire Universe Special Edition

  • Good moment! Good view! And very fine sound beam! I so like this machine! (Trust SSC). Fantastic work! In my childhood I remember Blue Flame machine. But SSC is wonderful!

  • this is an old video of my honda... @ 0:30 the vtech kicked in

  • what i want to know is what vehicle is the guy filming in its was going pretty fast

  • i love the booomm...

  • @ampthilluk What the fuck you say mother fucker, all i have sayed this bullshit they can not go more the 220 mph So if you don't know anything shut the fuck up Mother Fucker

  • @zzztubazzz Yes they can go faster then 220mph:L

  • @zzztubazzz you fucking stupid ass people

  • I bet the drivers penis could cover the whole length of the Nurburgring track.

  • Am I correct then in saying, if I was driving it, and I thundered past the sound barrier, everything would have gone quiet as I was literally out gunning the sheer noise of the thing? and by quiet I mean all I could hear was myself?

  • @badman2504 No, it would still be very noisy. Check out some of the in cockpit videos.

You would get sound transmitted through the vehicle frame etc

  • @badman2504 one of the reasons is because soundwaves get transmitted faster through metals for example. and because the cockpit is stationairy, you will always hear the engine at maximum loudness. if it was just air around him, and all the engines were behind him, then yes.

  • Wasn't a US jet car called Spirit of America competeing with SSC at the same time and lost miserably?

  • @NorseCrusader Yes it was Craig Breedlove. It was very different operation than SSC, much more traditional. It wasn't exactly a competition, there's a certain solidarity in a business like this where you're near the edge. They had a crash - fastest in history ;-) then blew an engine next year, then they struggled for funding, no one is very interested in sponsoring someone to be second.

  • @NorseCrusader Who lost badly SSC or spirit of america?

  • @dotamagiblade The Spirit of America. They didn't have great funding though.

  • @NorseCrusader You should have seen how tight the SSC budget was too! They basically had to beg for air freight and such-like.

  • @NorseCrusader I wouldn't say the Spirit lost as such. They were unlucky destroying two engines (...i think), although it's probably fair to say that the Thrust team were much more likely to achieve the sound barrier. 'Thrust' by Richard Noble is a stunning account of the whole SSC journey and is a superb read.

  • but still i mean 763mph on land to me thats haulin ass and to break the sound bareier at that. can u just imagin sittin behind the wheel of that thing goin that fast lol i can

  • cool, it went so fast, its actually faster than the sound travelling in front of it, so we can't hear it until it passed!

  • broke the sound barrier

  • top speed?

  • @eMMedeArg 763 Mph so far. :D They're coming out with the BloodHound SSC that can do over 1000 Mph :D :D :D

  • @Jokes0nce95 no, they are EXPECTING it to do 1000mph, you cant just build ANY car/jet/anything and KNOW how fast its gonna go, without ANY testing, you can know a range of how fast it MAY go

  • The future Rally Group B car is here :D now try to do a U-turn :P

  • what kind of wheels did this thing have i heard of someone having trouble to find wheels who can endure 400 km/h

  • @aLeonDegiuamelle They were specially cast solid aluminium alloy wheels. They needed to be able to withstand forces of something like 20000g

  • @dcwhitworth So there was no rubber on the wheels?

  • @Andreaslillfreakact No, it wouldn't have survived the temperatures and forces.

  • @dcwhitworth amazing

  • There actully titaniam wheel with no tred on them.

  • driver- KICK ASS MAN OH YEAH TAKE THAT WORLD!! GUINESS HERE I COME!!! oh fuk litte girl on tricyc- BOOOM SPLAT POW CRACK SHATTER.

  • DEEEAAAAAUUUUUMMMMMNNNN

  • i can just imagine the roadrunner racing to this car.

  • any documentary about this project??

  • It's called a sonic boom, not a supersonic boom.

  • @TheFunkadelicFan Dammit, you're right ! I hate being out pedanted :-(

  • @dcwhitworth It starts with a misplaced apostrophe, and ends with gas chambers.

  • @TheFunkadelicFan There's nothing wrong with doing things correctly or wanting others to do so. The problem comes when you think that this somehow makes you a superior person to them.

  • @TheFunkadelicFan um there is such a thing called a supersonic boom, i know because my cousin works at the Edwards Airforce Base in Lancaster CA

  • @lakerzcheerleader11 How does it differ from a "sonic boom"?

  • hollywood should use that car in the next speedster movie and with a little video editing Bamm you have a new Flash or Sonic the Hedgehog live action movie

  • Im sure I saw luke Sky Walker and R2D2 in that thing :D

  • I get to visit her every week ! She lives 10 mins from my house in Coventry Transport Museum. If you're around don't miss the chance to go see her in person, she's massive and gorgeous (It's free entry, and for a pound you can experience the supersonic run in a simulator !)

  • @banditkurt69 lolz

  • Why not put wings on it and create something useful?

  • @KellieSmunt Why not do the same with your comment ? ;-)

  • @dcwhitworth lmaooooooooooooo

  • @dcwhitworth hehehehe

  • @KellieSmunt Sometimes we, humans that is, do things for no other reason than to have accomplished that thing. This particular record is an achievement built on technical, engineering, and scientific advances that, not 20 years before, would have proved nigh impossible to achieve.

    Also, goddamn, fucker goes fast.

  • @Debilitator47 and then there was chuck norris

  • @KellieSmunt haha dc just smacked you upside the head

  • @KellieSmunt Because it meant to be the fastest land vehicle not an airplane :P

  • @KellieSmunt agreed

  • @KellieSmunt. Wow, I think you may have invented something there Kelly !

  • @KellieSmunt

A one-person jet is useful? how? the fuel cost of doing that is prohibitive.

  • @KellieSmunt I take a guess....... maybe something like that already exists? ;-)

  • The "shockwave" is a myth.

  • I don't think you'll see a shockwave since its on the ground, and there are no clouds to form the wave visually.

  • @BeauStinsonDotCom Shock waves were sometimes visible (but not on this video I think) albeit not as spectacular as on some planes.

  • @BeauStinsonDotCom

The photos you see of a jet fighter with a circular cloud behind it are not it breaking the sound barrier. It is just the humidity making a vapour cloud behind it. This is most often seen at very slow speeds and is often perceived to be "breaking the sound barrier"

  • @BeauStinsonDotCom Clouds don't form the "wave", it's compressed air.

  • *Just breaks sound barrier* "...That was fast..." Wow, talk about being cool.

  • i dont get it is it dirt or some bs effect with sonic boom and wht kind of palne is that its anyyoing

  • surprised it didn't take off lol

  • @crazylou1997 That's exactly the problem with trying to go very fast on land - keeping yourself on the ground. It's easy to go very fast, but unless you stay on the ground it doesn't count . . and you'll likely be dead too.

  • light travels 300.000 km / s

  • that was chuck norris in a peddle car

  • What if that thing hit a deer???

  • @Rybread34 it would be bye bye to deer and the driver.

  • gotta love the boom.

  • It always run in desert area.. imagine what would happen if they somehow manage to run it in 100 km long road

  • If you look closely at the vid you can see the shockwave stirring the dust below the nose just before you hear the boom.

  • @dcwhitworth forget it i was drunk

  • @dcwhitworth what do you mean by "No"

  • this if it is the world's fastest car not the bugatti veyron

este si es el carro mas rapido del mundo no el bugatti veyron

  • Made in China?

  • @1234567loading PLEASE don't take the p*ss out of this car just because it ain't American! The Chinese couldn't build something like this if they practised until doomsday!

  • Thanks for the white out...cough cough cough

  • Chuck Norris' round-house kick breaks the sound barrier.

  • @Lamborghini173 It is a sonic boom. Because the speed of sound is much slower than that of light, when you hear the bang isn't the actual point in time that the car is breaking the sound barrier. The video is taken from several miles away with the car in its deceleration phase beyond the measured mile, the bang then overtakes the car and arrives before it.

  • @Lamborghini173 the 'white circle' you speak of is actually water condensation in the transonic shockwave. This is the Black Rock Desert - very dry and hence very little water in the atmosphere so such effects are much less noticable. There were actually such effects noticed at the nose and tail of the car but they were quite small. Also bear in mind that you are never viewing the car at supersonic speeds in this video so you wouldn't see the effect anyway.

  • @dcwhitworth i love to say this just cause i have 20 years exp in Video Photography YOUR 100% WRONG. Cause i Watched This very same video On T.V.

  • @Xieth420 I have no idea what you're talking baout.

  • @Lamborghini173 You can't see a shockwave in the air because in the desert there is little water vapour. You can see the shockwave in the sand, very striking too, there is a good photo from the air.

  • @Lamborghini173 LMFAO, white circle? You realise that that is just vapour, ever seen an aeroplane in the sky with the white trails, same thing

  • @Lamborghini173 so your saying if I watch a bullet in slow motion then I'll see a white circle around it?, in the desert there's no water to form the condensation that's created in a sonic boom, plus, a sonic boom is very different on the ground than in air, in air it's very visible cause of all the water in the air, on the ground less water vapor is present so the boom is seen in the form of a dust cloud or a pressure wave

  • Bang, and the dirt is gone.

  • ye cant corner at that speed unless your runnin slick tyres

  • @pcass31 ....i don't think slick tires are going to help you at over 700mph

  • @Fourteen88SoCal what? slicks make all the difference at the top level the difference between mujamuc and migamuc who knows whats goin on here input should be loud and clear with no left or right?

  • @Fourteen88SoCal Rubber tyres would melt at those speeds, so would ordinary wheels actually.

  • @dcwhitworth Oh i know lol....rubber would for sure just melt away

  • Good lord, that's so fast!

  • DAMN!!! that made me jump!! :L

  • That scared the crap out of me! I better turn the volume down

  • I couldn't help but copy and paste this comment left by someone with a sour taste in their oversized mouth......

"you wish it was british you old greedy fucker. it was 100% american i saw the show on National Geographic. go drink some tea and brush your teeth you fuckin brit"

HAHAHAHA....Pathetic isn't it? He saw the show?? What a moron.

(ps.. i apologise to all descent American folk who are obviously cringing at what this idiot decided to write.)

  • @gamblemadman I am so ashamed of my own countrymen...

  • @Maxables Hey you shouldn't be ashamed of your own countrymen mate, it was an individual person who decided to write that, he doesn't represent the average American.

Youtube is loaded with ignorant morons lol. They come from all corners of the globe.

  • The speed of sound is broken at 726 mph. Speed of light is 186,262 miles per second, so forget trying to break that....... on the ground anyway?

  • @KrunkMunki Sound is broken at 761 mph not 762 and light like you said travels at 186,262 miles per second or 671,000,000 mph. =P

  • @JetZeroFox The speed of sound varies with air density etc, so you're probably right on both counts - and several more besides.........

  • Thrust SSC is a British jet-propelled car. The car was driven by Royal Air Force fighter pilot Squadron Leader Andy Green in the Black Rock Desert in Nevada. It was powered by two afterburning Rolls-Royce Spey turbofan engines, as used in British F-4 Phantom II jet fighters. In 1983 Richard Noble had broken the world land speed record with his earlier car Thrust2, which reached a speed of 1,018 km/h. Both ThrustSSC and Thrust2 are displayed at the Coventry Transport Museum in Coventry, England.

  • @Factnotfictionpeople The speed of sound varies with the air temperature. Density has next to no effect on the speed of sound.

  • @Xenophobia69

Actually the speed of sound is affected by both the temperature and altitude.

The speed of sound at sea level is 761 mph and at 30,000 feet it is 678 mph

  • for a while there.. i thought it was alittle off the ground..

  • @crazyboyxx WTF are you talking about " cave dwelling muslims worshipping an invisible man" Christians havent seen their god either neither have jews and most muslims live in houses

  • How do u break the sound barrier??? Looks like he hit a Boost button or something???

  • @tranjohn It's called the afterburner ;-)

  • @tranjohn It's called the afterburner ;-)

  • @tranjohn It's called the afterburner ;-)

  • @tranjohn the sound barrier rapens when you go faster than the sound so they colide togethere and make that oval thing around the car (witch looks like a freaking jet aeroplane) and it makes a loud fuck ass sound its so loud that can break 53 houses windows + car windows and that what happened the car went sooo fast that went faster than his sound

ps: sorry for my bad inglish

  • Until 0:31 the driver was saying dont press the red button. right after he went FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

  • what's that wonderful music background and where can i get it

  • Hey... an real Airbus hehe

  • Good old great britain and dont knock the US there our true allies ..better than the EU crap which is forced upon us

  • now add some wings that pop out and it will fly

  • Meep Meep

  • The sound from it accelerating and such would still be there because it is a loud car for sure. So I would think that the rest of the sound would still be ahead of it from when it was accelerating and hadn't reached the speed of sound yet. all the rest of the sound would still be there somewhere wouldn't it? The car doesn't start passing its own sound until the booms but all the sound from the start of the run would still be ahead of it.

  • how do you hear the boom coming if its not at you yet. right before the sonic boom, you hear it faintly then the boom. how?

  • @ladiestreat27 watch?v=annkM6z1-FE&feature=related

check this video of the concorde breaking the sound barrier too, a lot louder. Sound only travels at the speed of sound so it takes a few seconds to get to you..picture that the sound is going as fast as that car or the concorde right at you .You are hearing the sound that the car made as it is approaching the camera, the sound gets louder etc till the boom but theres always the delay between what your seeing and what you are hearing.

  • @mvanherd ye i kno ive seen that video but in the concorde video, you hear the sonic booms first then the rest of the sound. here, you slowly hear it build up quietly then BOOM BOOM. how is that possible? do other sound waves travel slower than others? or is it just the camera?

  • awesome

  • Bum

  • Whats in the tail at 0:22 to 0:23? Is that the shock wave?

  • What, no screaming and whooping? Where's all the YEE HAWS? They're what? British? Oh......that's why they're as cool as penguin shit.....

  • @doctordrew66 Remember, the car was driven by Royal Air Force fighter pilot Squadron Leader Andy Green. Fighter pilots always exude an air of quiet confidence when they are on the move. Yes, being British, cool and calm is in their genes.

  • one more proud moment for us brits get in there thrust

  • 0:20 It looks like a Goddam shark surfacing out of the water!

  • sends a chill down the spine, amazing, saw it yesterday in the flesh... again amazing.

  • hey, can anybody explain why it looks so weird looking in the beginning?

  • optical illusion cuz the vechicle is farther away
