You should buy the biggest cage you can afford, The minimum cage size for this bird is 20 inches long by 20 inches wide by 24 inches tall with bar spacing 3/4 to 1 inch.
I work at PetsMart and we have had a conure for quite some time due to the price. But hes is the greatest bird ever. Yes he is loud, but only because he wants some attention. Sadly we can't let birds on our shoulders anymore due to a new rule.
Anyways, do you mind telling me a decent sized cage you could use for a Conure? I thinking about buying him but I don't know what kind of cage I should buy.
You shouldn't let them on your shoulder. If they're on your shoulder they get it into their heads that they're the "dominant" bird. They're really beautiful though :)
Well that isn't the reason, sadly it happened at some PetsMart where they had a bird on their shoulder and it fell. Then a dog came around and picked the bird up.
they are very very loud when they want to be, but if you can put up with it and have A LOT of time to spend with it, then they make fantastic companions. mine is currently sitting on my shoulder preening my neck
@CutlerBeckett because he will soon learn that he is dominant if he is ever allowed above your head or at the same height. That can result in SERIOUS problems!!
@56animallover Don't worry, he's really small---i'm really big. He's been sitting on my shoulder for years, he's not even eye level to me. He knows that he's not dominant.
@newzealandnz I have a Sun Conure named Kiwi! But I live in California........

My father's sun does the same thing with the toys he has in his cage, except he's a lot louder while he's "fighting" with them.
