@ djddavies : totally agree! Every year engines have more power and less fuel consumption. And to .... Girl: Try this thing called maintenance and than expect reliability!
An engine should be designed first and foremost to never, ever, ever fail. These car engines are designed as complex devices, and the more complex a device is, the more prone it is to failing. Valves wear out, cylinders and rings wear out, any one system breaks because of a single point of failure... like oil pan bolt falling out, or leak in cooling system, and whole engine is destroyed.
@cobrachoppergirl That statement completely ignores the last 50 years of engine advancements. Never have engines been more reliable. Almost never see a broken down car on the side of the road that wasn't owner induced. Back in the day that was a normal sight.
@stoone113 a lot of 4cyls look the same, but trust me, way different timing setup, I've built 4 420a motors and the 420a has an intake that isn't even close to that, and all 420a's had aluminum intakes. the ECB or A588 SOHC models were the only engines to have plastic intake manifolds, but the TB comes out from the bottom. there is a lot different than this duratec engine.
@stoone113 I suggest you register and take a look around in the neon forums. there is a lot of info there on 2.0 engine upgrades @ forums.neons.org. introduce yourself and ask that question. Out of the many car forums I have been to, the members there are some of the nicest and most helpful people I've ever met. They will send you in the right direction. I will be right there to greet you.
Cool animation, but that's the ecotec motor found in the cobalt SS, 'cause the exhaust is on the wrong side for a mistu-shity motor and ford motors are not DOHC motors other than the ford SHO which had a yamaha engine.
I hope some poor guy doesn't see this and try to assemble the pistons and rods to the crank and then try to stick the whole assembly in from the bottom!
Someone who actually knows there way around an engine needs to upload this video with the music replaced with a brief description of each component and how it functions in the engine, thats how you can prove you know your way around an engine.
god i love cars but building the motor is such a drag. OMFG a 4g63 was like the worst one ive had did a ton of rookie mistakes that i knew better then. LOL and a 2.2 honda s2000 was a bitch just for head gasket and head studs
again. NOT a 4g63, 4g63t, 4g64 nor 420a engine. this did NOT come from an eclipse. and again, on the chain. you still have to worry about it popping. remember. the links wear out of chains badly. i've had quit a few break and it was lubed properly. just stressed from racing. remember in younger bicycling days when the chains would break and pop no matter the lube? ky couldn't keep those things from breaking. so either way, neither is better than the other as i stated before..
im a car mecanist and this is not a 2.0 mitsubitshi motor it is an 1.6 16 valve ford motor i´am working for a ford dealership here in iceland and this is a ford motor
ok, first off, it's not a 4g63 nor a 4g63t, and it's not a honda engine either. so rule out any of those, it could be a toyota, lexus, ford, mazda, and a few other 4 cylinder engines that to this day use the dinosaur timing chain...although the chain as opposed to the belt does have it's ups and downs
first of all a timing chain with proper lubrification is more reliable than the timing belt, and also in rigourous engine condition (raccing aswell) with a proper lubricated timing chain you wont have the bad suprise that timing belt provide when they rip appart in racing condition LOL
unless its a 22r/re timing chain. they break. other than that, there ay okay. we had a bad surprise on a rainy day with our dodge stratus. were driving and then POP!!! the belts poking out of the valve shroud and there is a huge mess around the engine.
this is a ford duratec, the user who added the vid either removed the intro or just got it the way it is, i have the vid and in the beginning it says "FORD Duratec HE, 4 Cylinder PFI"
:)
it may also be used in VW's and certain Audi's as well, after all, it's an engine at the end of the day and they all look alike :D, but that doesn't make them the original designers :)
BYCURE213 i believe you are incorrect, for a start SR20's DO NOT have timing chains, nor do they have serpentine belt set ups, and the oil filter is on the intake side, exhaust manifold and oil dipstick are all wrong
I'll say it again, Ford Duratec 2.2/2.3. It's used widely in the Elan DP02/ Van Diemen SCCA cars. It's street car host is the ford ranger and Mazda B-series pickups. I build parts for this motor every day! Especially the EGR-delete plate (replaces the 5 sided plate that bolts onto the side of the block at 1:57). Not Honda, Not Toyota - Ford, guys! :D
Uh, what exactly is "gay" about a timing chain which lasts the life of any car vs what I guess would be a "heterosexual"(??) timing belt that's designed to snap every 60,020 miles?
It's no Honda...K20 or otherwise. Easy details to spot are a K20 will have three cam lobes for every pair of valves. It will also use rocker arms...not lifters.
Looks so amazing and easy. Thanks for sharing.
