  • why not use a true old woman for the shoot... they will save 10,000...

  • 0:20 she look like Bridgit Mendler

  • I got de ja vu from this vid!

  • is pretty easy to make especially with latex

    .

  • I really want to do this when I get older! any advice for being in this career? And Please be a SFX Artist.

  • @Critic1516 if you wish to become a SFX make-up artist if have to be sure about it ! If so, I recommend going to a makeup school! I HIGHLY recommend Cinema Make-up School (CMS) as it is based in hollywood and has highly professional makeup artists to teach! They range from beauty makeup to character makeup (wounds, cuts, bald caps etc!) So ovb they do, do prothetic makeup! They show you how to make it, apply it and add makeup to it to make it look more realistic ! Check them out !

  • @LewisKTV Thank you so much for the help! I'll check them out for sure! (:

  • 10 grand for plaster and gel.. Not so respectable.. The artistry that went into this, now we're talking :P

  • they should make man to woman

  • OMG ...

  • that would be part of an awsome halloween costume

  • why dont they just hire an old lady?

  • @theatremagic157 dam i was gunna type that

  • @theatremagic157 because maybe the old lady they wanted was supposed to be an action grandma and had to be fit and hiring an old lady there is the option of the old lady possibly dying from to much action

  • @theatremagic157 old ladies are crazy.

  • Comment removed

  • @theatremagic157 yeah thats a good point cause then they wouldn't of had to of gone through all this.

  • Grandma?!

  • well. if they get paid $10,000, i know what I wanna do. Its nice cuz i already kinda wanted to do this!!

  • How long can you wear this. And how do you take it off?

  • Can't you do the opposit? Old to young

  • Wonderfull!

  • thats to much work :/

  • after 25 minutes? did she also hold her breath that long?? lolsS

  • while they're applying the mask, she's like ooooh crap why did i ever agree to this??

  • yikes, that would be creepy waiking up in the morning like that!!!

  • Kryolan products! (Y)

  • All i can say is WOW!

  • CREAPY!! lol but very good!

  • I enjoy watching, "How It's Made" and I really enjoyed watching this particular video and the aging process "Hollywood" style with these special effects techniques. Techniques I would've otherwise always continued to wonder about how it is that they do this. I would love to be able to do something like this,as I see you must have alot of patience, first of all, inwhich I most definately do.

  • Nice face sag babe! Lookin' old again!!!

  • ÅÅ det ser gøy ut å lage sånn!! :)

  • i came here to learn how its done and to apply. When i saw the video. Damn I need some talent.

  • Isn't this the chick from Dexter?

  • @Sean0278 She does look a bit like Rita but no its not her!

  • WHY would a young girl like her wanna turn into an old lady?

  • @superkimmy98 Its makeup for movies and theatre, its not an everyday makeup! Its not like " Hey I wanna be an old lady today!Yay!"

  • i like the hair part he puts the eyebrow hair on the mask ... so cool

  • wowwwwwww

  • woah .. that's amazing ..

  • Comment removed

  • 10 grand is sick man for prostethics as those. I am working with people from, Lord of The Rings and we never make masks this expensive! nicely done though.

  • @ADegensTV What kind of job do you have it sounds like fun!

  • wow that's incredible :O

I love doing Special effects :)

  • That will not cost $10000 that's retarded dude, you can easily get supplies for that online.

  • @officerhardbody, he didn't say the supplies. He said that it can cost up to $10000 (could be how much the artists gets paid).

  • @officerhardbody This field seems really specialized, and requires lots of time, patience, professional equipment and supplies, and creativity/artistry. And with a huge movie budget, who cares if it's 10,000 dollars? 10k for a makeup artist at a large production is a flash in the pan.

  • wow this is cool i want to do that but no model for it :) LOL

  • WOW

  • i might go to acting school this summer

  • im just looking at the picture, have the things he says i dont understand LOL

  • Loved it!! need to learn how to do this!!!

  • OMG that teen girl 0:21 looks so... old now 4:28

  • woww!!

  • fascinating!

  • The only parts of the disguise that are missing are the gray/white wig, the fake prosthetic hands and the special fat suit that contains special sagging breasts and a special round potbelly!

  • woah!!!!!!!!

  • DOOD. That's craaaaazy!!

  • 10,000??? OMG... I'm ON BOARD!!!! :-)

  • @Nativegirl1985 no it costs 10,000 dollars to buy that stuff they dony pay you that much money.

  • She looks like my teacher

  • @Calmany37 yeah you could just hire an old woman, but then special effect makeup artist like myself wouldn't get the chance to spend hours working on world famous actors (yes brad pitt), contribute to making block buster movies and getting a bucket load of cash from doing something I absolutely love! Now where would all the fun be if you just hired some old lady?

  • @89vdolls Was there a mask used for Robert Downey Jr. in Tropic Thunder to make him African-American?, or was that normal make-up? Not saying I think you worked on there, just asking what you think?

  • awesome clear down to the lace wig

  • excellent

  • I love this video. I show it to directors who want some huge makeup effect for fifty bucks.

  • 10,000 dollars! I cant afford that!

  • @MrKoolDude67 lol.

  • @MrKoolDude67 not bad not bad not bad. nice stuff.

  • omfg was that a real head XD

  • @MrKoolDude67 do u know how?

  • this is scary! lol

  • so this is how they age Benjamin Button.

  • @choanx Nope..old Benjamin Button was a CGI head. look it up, they broke new ground with that one

  • @jaxbo Incorrect. Benjamin Button was makeup, except for the shots where he has a child's body. I attended the Oscars Symposium in Hollywood and saw the prosthetics myself. I suggest you check out Makeup Artist Magazine #76.

  • @instantmonsters Inorrect. They never used a child's body. It was an old man's body with a cgi brad pitt head placed on.

  • @hardwire5000 No, I mean when the character was a child, not that they used an actual kid. You're right, those shots have a CG face.

  • @instantmonsters Erm...I think you'll find they used prosthetics when they needed to make Brad Pitt look like he was supposed to be about 60, but to make him look much older they used a CGI head on an old man's body. Theres a video on here that shows you how it was done, i suggest you check it out. v=Y9twsVqWRR8

  • @jaxbo What I meant was that makeup was used, it wasn't all CG. Sorry if that sounded shitty, it had been a long day :)

  • @instantmonsters No worries mate ;)

  • this scares me lol

  • Does anyone know, where i can buy some thing like this, to hide my face to be past recognition?

  • Ew,Ugly.

  • Because of the drying time of the cement and latex, most of this work has to be done quickly. The actually working time would be closer to three days.and the cost of products are closer to 500$. The only reason it would take that long and cost that much is an over-paid artist that took his sweet time. There doing an old lady (this technique was more popular in the eighties) to show how effective the technique is. There not showcasing the practicality of it, just the quality.

  • hahahaha why would u wanna be an old lady

  • Lol its the lady frm cathrine tate jk

  • This is truly an amazing, yet time consuming with the essence of patience and dedication to create such an art form for plays and film. Depending on the script and character(s), as a director, I would try, if possible to do what "The Notebook" did. For example, Gena Rowlands plays the senior version of Rachel McAdams. In this case, it wasn't necessary to do any special effects make-up on Rachel McAdams, they just casted Gena Rowlands because its convincing enough as far as aging. It worked fine!

  • omg wow

  • That beggining head looks so real !!!!!!!

  • wtf

  • COOL!

  • dame thats a lot of plaster

  • What's that sonny

  • she looks nice bald :)

  • SOOO MUCH steps into making a mask...

  • Interesting, but it's never really *quite* right. As a person ages, the flesh sags and the skin gets closer to the bone and more transparent, especially around the eyes. Putting stuff on top of young skin can never replicate the proportions of an aged face so the actor ends up looking stiff and puffy instead of natural.

  • a lot of people are getting confused. It doesn't cost $10,000 worth of materials for this. They mean a make-up fx artist could charge up to 10k for this work. You can create this make-up for about $300. More or less depending on the make-ups and stuff you wanna use. I'm an fx artist.

  • striking tips - thanks!, have any of you tried Rimmel's most recent product line?! its difficult to find good makeup in Cordova yet you can get wonderful cosmetic samples by going to "GratisMakeupSamples", there ace!

  • It's amazing!!!!!

  • that was disgusting

  • This is amazing, but when 100-200 years later, we wont be here, and new people will invent new amazing things, then this, will no longer be amazing.. infact, maybe you can get this for only 100 bucks!

  • lol wow this guy is good

  • this is incredible. and my future career.

  • @VanessaViolence Me too! I can't wait =D

  • waste of money and time

  • wow this is so awesome. it looks so real!!!!

  • 10000$ dollars to looks like a grandma... who wants this?

  • @Tigrou7777 for movies, plays, television, etc

  • omg i wanna do that for a job wen i got older!!!!!!!!!!! :D x10000

  • i wish i had that

  • this is so effing rad!!!!!!

  • omg i could never have someone put a contact in for me...

  • can somone tell me where can i get those products? and how do they calls? please? i didnt understand what the jelly stuff in the start of the video is? this that look like a doe

  • scary

  • something about it looked unrealistic but i cant pinpoint it

  • wooooow!!!!

this video is one of my favorites!

    cool..

  • i love this and can't wait to go to school for it

  • I cant imagine looking at myself after hes done!!! OMG! :D

  • than mrs. doubtfire wasn´t a cheap movie :P

  • amazing information. thanks 4 sharin, has anybody used Garnier's new line of products? it is quite hard to find cosmetics in Fontana-on-Geneva Lake yet i managed to recieve some awesome cosmetic samples using 'Gratis Makeup Samples'! theyre handy.

  • Cool isn´t it?

  • 3:34

Old lady is not amused. :c

  • hollywood movies: BUSTED!!!!!

  • 10,000 bucks for that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • It took so long to make the mask that the girl was already elderly

  • this is more pointless than anything i've seen in my life.

  • Wow, amazing!

  • OK, now for the make up to make an old woman look young!

  • It would be fun to walk around like an old person for a day :)

  • makes you nwonder why they would do that..why not use a real old woman it would be ten grand cheaper

  • @Calmany37 If you can use an old person, it absolutely makes sense to do that. If they need to age an actor so it is still clearly the same person then makeup is used or tom transform a stunt performer to appear older.

It depends on the budget of the show, and how old the performer is to start with...there is less work to turn a 50 year old to 75 than to make a 20 year old to 90.

  • @Calmany37 for example, if you wanted the old woman to look like her younger self. just age the actress that played her when she was young like in titanic with the old woman at the end and beginning

  • @Calmany37 True. But then again, what if the character was meant to transform from an elderly woman into a young woman, or vice versa, ala so many myths and legends.

Or maybe they want the old woman to be an energetic warrior/ or fighter, whose physical strength is meant to be way beyond her age. There are many reasons, these are just a few.

  • It's simple really. If a character "ages" on screen, it has to remain the same actor if the director wants the film realistic (it's quite easy to tell the difference if you use a different old lady instead)

  • @Calmany37 because real old women are cranky

  • @Calmany37 omg soooo true!

  • @Calmany37 because people wanna see eddie murphy as a old woman.

  • @Calmany37 not if the old lady had to do stunts like jumping off cars

  • @Calzep2 lol that would be funny

  • @Calmany37

so that the old woman can look exactly like the actress. It wouldnt be real enought to hire an actress that doesnt look like her.

    Hope that answered your question

    -peewee

  • wow

  • wow $10k ...

was that how much White Chicks cost too?

  • why dont they just get an old woman

  • Now she needs a face lift!

  • can she breathe through the plaster?

  • @Pikapii2Pikachu her nostrils weren't covered

  • I think she just aged while they were putting it all on and said "oop, there we go!"
