  • Last time I saw you was at Norway Days this summer. Since then I was at the Viking Festival in Lofoten Norway, Near Borg. Go to You Tube and type in "mikeminnesota" and click on "Lofotr Viking Festival 5 August" and see the viking longboats, campsites and battles. There are several more Lofoten Viking Videos on Y

  • A very nice video! Was and overhand position also used by the vikins with a one handed spear? In the way the Hoplites did it as well.

  • Well, it's not really possible to say for sure one way or the other. Nothing was written down by them regarding fighting practices. We can be sure they were generally brutal, but also cunning and sensible warriors at the same time.

    So, we don't say that THIS is how the Vikings fought, but in our experience both over and underhand work and both were probably used, though overhand is harder to control where safety is a concern.
