i just cant get over the squeaks, im not trying to criticize the band by any means, mostly they sound good, the bari doesnt stand out enough IMO. probably biased seeing as im a bari player. that aside, does anyone else feel that the squeaks are like driving rusty nails into ones forehead?
i dont know but i think it sounds good and i hear the bari sax.... i jst have very good ears and i like to hear my favorite instruments. its all in the matter of picking out the sound but i hear the bari.. I play bari sax myself and i know the sound and i know the feel so maybe thats why i hear the bari sax? but i also play contrabass clarinet as well maybe i like the low deep sound. i think its sounds nice jst stating what i feel out there please don't hate...
I think this sound pretty good. There are some parts where it gets a little bit pitchy, and yes I know in Jazz it's sometimes good to sound pitchy to give it the jazz style, but at some parts it just didn't fit. Overall though I would have to say that it was pretty good. You guys stayed in time with each other and worked well together with the balance of dynamics. Seriously, Great Job Guys! =D

Read the text, Music is meant to bring joy, share ideas, promote focus, commitment and consistency. Phrase your criticisms to encourage people. Thats what musicians should do for one another if they understand what its truly about

@pumas7866 It is the camera. If you know anything about music, it's that when you try to blend different sounds, the lower sounding (The bari sax) get muffled and overpowered by the others. And it certainly doesn't help that he has to fight against the powerful sound of the tenor as opposed to the lighter alto or soprano. He sounded fine, the camera just couldn't pick up the low (as in key, not volume) sounding notes...bravo. Congratulations on making it to State.
@drummerdante95 valid point, but most video cameras mics still pick up a bari to some extent in almost all situations, it is practically non-existent in this band, im thinking its because the arrangement has left the bari in a register too high

Btw why do you have to play sopranino clarinet? I know about it and seen it, but I've never really heard any music that call for it...
@2heyitsme I play it in my high-school wind ensemble. I dont know who told you there wasn't any call for it, cause there's PLENTY! It's mostly used in classical music, and it sometimes plays similar parts to the oboe, piccolo, and violin. It's a pretty hard instrument to master, but if you play it right it sounds great. Like a flute mixed with a clarinet. A great advantage of the Eb clarinet that the Bb clarinet doesn't have, is that it can both blend in or soar loudly above the band. I love it!

@SiaWinsi Actually, in recent events, a band director put me on bari sax for an upcoming musical Drama is putting on. No other bari saxes volunteered, and it's kind of hard to remember that sax is NOT the same fingerings as the clarinet family, well, at least the lower register isn't!

thats a nice sax quartet you have there. i play the baritone sax and i have a sax quartet as well. last year, we played for another bands concert and entered in a few contests and got 1st place. so yeah idk what you guys do but a judged rating of a solid 10.

this made it to state? WHAT STATE???!?!? In washington, you wouldn't have had a prayer of going to state with this. jazz for one, two there are so many high quality quartets around that would screw with you. solo and ensemble in washington is reserved for classical music.

where did i say it was bad? I only said that in washington you would not have been able to make it to state with a jazz piece. if you need proof that i am not just a critic but also a musician, you can look at my channel and listen to the post of the Central washington University playing the bach fugue in 2009. I was in that group playing contra bass clarinet. you can also listen to the 4 bari sax quartet i posted as well. it is not a classical piece but it shows technical ability. sorry...

@Prometheus7112 First, I am sorry being so harsh, i was just really surprised that jazz was even allowed in state competition because it wasn't where i was from.
2nd, i wouldn't make accusations that you can't back up. I have been playing in jazz band since 7th grade through 12th grade and have been in 3 years of University level jazz band on sax (bari) and Bb clarinet. we competed and placed in several national competitions. I have also been playing classical bass clarinet since 7th grade.
Just kidding! It seems that point-and-shoot cameras also try to compensate for volume changes, which makes it difficult to express dynamics. It ends up all being the same volume in the end...
Nevertheless, sounds like a fun piece to play, and enjoyed the performance :)
Hey! I think you guys have done a great job with this piece, and as some really "clever" people have noticed is that its not perfect. So what, part of being a musician is to continuously improve yourself. I have made countless mistakes when playing in groups and solos, but its alright because it means it is something to work on to improve. Being perfect just means there is nothing to work for or be motivated about, so guys, you have done a great job here and I wish you the best!! :D
0:50 :o sqweek! PS: the cool thing about jazz (if thats what your playing) is that you can alter the music to have a more clear effect, such as the ending. The last two notes, may I suggest that you instead not go down but in fact rise up to a high root from a step below. Its universal and unorrigonal, but it completes the musical sentence. Over all besides the squeek that was awesome!
I think the Bari has great sound even after the feedback problem. Another thing the squeaking is going to happen you can't stop it your going to squeak at least once...well it depends on the reed and other causes of course its going to happen. I really love the piece yall sounded GREAT!
It doesn't matter where the bell was pointing and where the camera was in relationship to the saxophone. The only difference would be is if the bari was playing the low A and thus the sound only coming out of the bell. Other than that, the sound comes out of all the tone holes that are open which are all around the instrument. It's like covering up the end of a flute and expecting it to not make a sound.

I was in that group playing contra bass clarinet. you can also listen to the 4 bari sax quartet i posted as well. it is not a classical piece but it shows technical ability. sorry...

You gotta understand I just posted this for fun and its gotten a ton of responses... a lot of them randomly bashing us. So sometimes it gets old and I assumed thats what you meant. @Prometheus7112 First, I am sorry being so harsh, i was just really surprised that jazz was even allowed in state competition because it wasn't where i was from.
2nd, i wouldn't make accusations that you can't back up. I have been playing in jazz band since 7th grade through 12th grade and have been in 3 years of University level jazz band on sax (bari) and Bb clarinet. we competed and placed in several national competitions. I have also been playing classical bass clarinet since 7th grade.

Just kidding! It seems that point-and-shoot cameras also try to compensate for volume changes, which makes it difficult to express dynamics. It ends up all being the same volume in the end...
Nevertheless, sounds like a fun piece to play, and enjoyed the performance :)

Hey! I think you guys have done a great job with this piece, and as some really "clever" people have noticed is that its not perfect. So what, part of being a musician is to continuously improve yourself. I have made countless mistakes when playing in groups and solos, but its alright because it means it is something to work on to improve. Being perfect just means there is nothing to work for or be motivated about, so guys, you have done a great job here and I wish you the best!! :D

0:50 :o sqweek! PS: the cool thing about jazz (if thats what your playing) is that you can alter the music to have a more clear effect, such as the ending. The last two notes, may I suggest that you instead not go down but in fact rise up to a high root from a step below. Its universal and unorrigonal, but it completes the musical sentence. Over all besides the squeek that was awesome!

I think the Bari has great sound even after the feedback problem. Another thing the squeaking is going to happen you can't stop it your going to squeak at least once...well it depends on the reed and other causes of course its going to happen. I really love the piece yall sounded GREAT!

It doesn't matter where the bell was pointing and where the camera was in relationship to the saxophone. The only difference would be is if the bari was playing the low A and thus the sound only coming out of the bell. Other than that, the sound comes out of all the tone holes that are open which are all around the instrument. It's like covering up the end of a flute and expecting it to not make a sound.

haha no worries dude for all the haters. I loved it :) i appreciate it. best thing ive heard all day. In some places it was kind of slurred and some notes werent as clear as I hoped they would be. but nice job. And there werent too many squeeks so thats good haha
