These people are not thinking its been going on for years how many people are out their doing this? uhmillions, billions the only way to stop this is to shut down the
I think the worst thing that SOPA is going to do is widen the gaps between rich and poor countries, or more importantly rich and poor people.
I know in Egypt for instance, any genuine copy of Microsoft Windows would cost more than maybe half the population's monthly salary, so its just not fair, production companies or tycoons who will benefit from the issue don't need that money, which they won't get anyway because no one there can afford their products.
@frag971 You know not what you say. He is very gracious and has a sense of humor. Is that what you are referring to?. He has been one of the few with the courage to be on the right side of issues even when everyone else is caving or hasn't read the bill. Think Ron Paul, Dennis Kucinich.
The fact that this bill was even proposed exemplifies the government's growing lack of concern for the welfare of the constituency. Today, our politicians are essentially nothing more than mouthpieces that espouse corporate and industrial intrusion. It's damn sickening.
I do not understand, why or how the goverment pays more attention to stupid and not well reviewed acts when a lot of good well thoughts laws are dismissed by the congress?
if they pass the law. the rich will get richer! and the poor will be more unhappy!!!
Why would I have to pay for content that I have already paid for? they should at least instead of shutting down websites, they should pass a law that gives a period of time for content to be illegal to watch from alternate sources. easy.
FUCK YOU LAMAR SMITH GO TO FUCKING HELL, TELL CONGRESS THAT I SAID THAT. NOW WITH THAT BEING SAID, IF I FIND INTERNET SITES, YOUTUBE AND MY CHANNEL SHUT DOWN, I SWEAR I'LL KILL YOU WITH MY BARE HANDS!! GO FUCKING FUCK YOURSELF CONGRESS. FUCK YOU BITCH, LAMAR SMITH. ANYWAYS LAMAR SMITH, GO LICK THE CONGRESS DICK BITCH!!! YOU FUCKING PIECE OF SHIT. GO FUCK YOURSELF!!
I do not believe this will pass. The internet giants such as google, facebook, youtube, yahoo, wikipedia and so on will have to say something about this. I can't simply believe that the few people for SOPA can make it go through when a lot of normal people in the world and internet giants are against this. This is bullshit.
The government should be the option of last resort. A government operating at its best is at best a necessary evil. Note the word "evil" and that our government is far from a government operating in its best state. Congress is closer to an international criminal entity then that of a government.
FYI: Video actually starts at 14:30 (it is graphics and no audio up to that point)
I appreciate this video being uploaded, but I do not understand why the first 14mins of useless footage was included, or at least why the channel owner does not put the actual starting time in the description.
It makes me ashamed to be in the armed service. I took an oath to protect our nation against enemies, foreign and domestic, and yet the greatest threats to our civil liberties are these corrupt bastards.
Yes, it is a shame that the corporations have managed to take over.. and use good people to do their dirty work, while they plot behind their backs to make life miserable for their loved ones..
The internet is the only channel for free speech.. all other media is more or less corrupt.
@Zaghurim and is that losing support? Protect IP? Internet provider? hmm Im pretty sure that doesn't mean in its actual name, stop piracy, as much as I know some things about law making, the title of the actual bill has to represent what it states, and I know inside the bill it goes on to talk about piracy on shite bla blah, defending ips from copyright infringement.. That makes no sense considering they provide a service for everything readily available on the code www
@Zaghurim In other words, the internet. What is on the internet is not up to them to block, they didn't put it up and it doesn't effect them in anyway, dont go shooting the messenger because someone is doing something you think is illegal.. Hey hollywood if you dont want your crap uploaded for FREE when its original copy was fucking bought, how about you go about a more intelligent way of stopping "piracy" - what they, the government call piracy, is not piracy, they the uploaders gain nothing
@Zaghurim they the uploaders gain nothing from uploading anything on the internet, see pirate bay, isohunt, hell nearly every torrenting site. In all actual fact these guys sell t-shirts, advertise on their sites, they allow advertisers whom probably support this bill and the other to get more money, and also pirate bay sell t-shirts, allowing the cotton/leather and other clothing industries to gain even more money.
@Alyxm I honestly don't really know what you're trying to say here, but IP stands for "intellectual property". ISP = Internet Service Provider. They're different things. Anyway, it doesn't matter, 'cause much like SOPA, PIPA was stopped in its tracks. Now we have ACTA to worry about instead.
@Zaghurim Sorry I was confused with IP and ISP, just knowing the American governments moronity, example making pizza a vegetable, is just -___- yeah hah, well for the Irish republic a version of SOPA was passed here.. but considering most of the people here don't know about our bill system. I dont think it has passed to a degree which would grant nearly as much power the US government would of had with your or be it maybe your internet, depending on if you are American or not... :)
@XaeroDegreaz Not to mention, as you can see from the opening seconds of this video, that these law makers are just a dumb as most of us are at this shit. I mean, look at this dude. He got PWNT in his little opening bit, then he stammered around, rapidly searching his paper for what to say next. Then, his lackey (read aid), came in and told him what to say next. This is too goofy -- I'm going to pop some popcorn.
Ethics of theft are truly complicated that the jurisdiction of its social and emotional reach covers the very nature of humans. Not all acts of theft should be punished for good reason, many reasons are understandable. But Acts committed by those who support true sinful intentions areant surprising is it, however it is these kind of people that we must go against. After all, humans are the one cultivating the internet. The path of internet lies within the mentality of mankind as a whole.
@stalkingcat123 yep, you'll have to kill me before i give up my right to do what I want on the internet which is provided to me freely through paying my government in tax for it and the company giving it to me in the first place.
@theappleman258 SOPA is just another example of why it is about time people around the world stops centralizing in the US and start looking for better alternatives.
The centralization of the Internet, the economy through the Dollar, etc. it is clear now that relying in the US to keep things working (and thus more convenient) was a mistake that should be fixed.
If that means blocking outthe USA's internet and entertainment industry so be it.
why is this only at 1613 views? this is pretty much gonna effect every youtube user and most parts of the internet.. most ppl dont even know about this bill and its kind of worrying ;(
@Condo123 lol. thats the point of the bill to stop wide spread of knowledge. For them the few people that do know is too many. A prime example is the Television media blocking coverage of Ron Paul, I only found out because of you tube, but if this bill passes I will have to rely on what fox tells me because some company will hold all the rights to the media coverage and therefore decides what I see and what I don't see.
Gee, Americans aren't losing enough jobs as it is. Let's pass some more pointless laws on things we have no concept of to put more Americans out of work. What a wonderful idea.
From 3:20:00 to 3:50:00 you can clearly see that a lot of the people in the room lack any knowlage of what is actually going on regarding the bill and how the internet operates as a whole
@MultiMrSoup Anarchy never has worked and never will. There are some jobs big enough and important enough that the government has to handle them. Censoring the internet is not one of those things.
Love what he says at 3:40:25 "This bill is deisgned to go after the worst of the worst, sites such as piratebay". You guys really think your laws you pass in America are going to affect sites hosted in Sweden? Long live The Pirate Bay!
If this passes, it will have huge consequences. It will effect the economy on an international level. It will also effect the internet as we know it today. Both will, in my opinion, change for the worse. I have not taken a side in the for-against-piracy-debate, but this will have impacts far beyond what piracy is concerned. I really hope this doesn't go through.
@TheCentristFiasco Everyone they called forth and questioned did not know the answer to the DNS question they asked. (at least according to the media articles I read, I did not get a chance to watch the actual hearing since I could not seem to find the video.) Since they did not know the answer, you can't really call them "experts" on the subject.
I am actually okay with them filibustering it. Their plan is working and the news of the bill is spreading along with a ton of opposition.
@TheCentristFiasco Actually the argument for it is rather weak. There is major flaw after major flaw in SOPA.
By the way It makes sense that you should bring in technological experts if some of the creators of the web itself said that this could damage the webs safety and security. At the very least they should hear technological experts on this issue.
(accidentally deleted this post so I had to re-posted it, I apologize for the inconvenience).
Not sure if most of you knew this, but on one of the bills of SOPA, its says that if any user tries to access a BANNED site from another address (EX: .co.uk or .ca, because most sites will switch over to this addresses as they are not being targeted by SOPA, therefore can resume as they normally would) will be blocked also! Americans trying to research about events happening in the world even, say on BBC.co.uk will be blocked. Ladies and Gentlemen, i give you the second Berlin Wall.
Lamar Smith is a fucking idiot. He is going to be dead in 15 years MAX and leave our country (the country of his grandchildren, whom he probably loves) to go to shit. Im sure when he was growing up during the dawn of humankind (notreally, DOB: November whogivesafuck 1947) he hated the idea of having a Berlin Wall throughout his free country. Sir, i tell you this now, you are putting a Berlin Wall around the USA.
what's the difference between this one and the other video "SOPA Hearing: Full H.R. 3261, the "Stop Online Piracy Act" 12/16/11 Hearing" that's 4 hours long?
What these people fail to understand is that piracy is a vital component of publicity. Without the so-called rogue websites, half the artists, musicians, and other intellectual property producers would not even be known as they are known now. When you stumble upon something for free on a pirate website, you are more likely to check it out than to pay on a legitimate website for something that you don't know what it is. Piracy isn't bad, it's a vital component of media
@13ip0lar I believe that activision is funding this act being passed. Whats to say they cant bribe them( these retards who have no idea what they are talking about) and have this bill passed? Even though this bill is ridiculous I wouldnt count out the fact that it wont pass.

Everyone know this won't get passed. However, the fact it made it this far is scary.

@13ip0lar I believe that activision is funding this act being passed. Whats to say they cant bribe them( these retards who have no idea what they are talking about) and have this bill passed? Even though this bill is ridiculous I wouldnt count out the fact that it wont pass.
Vlad12341 2 months ago
@13ip0lar That is not surely known. At this rate will be passed. NDAA was passed wasn't it?
