Emission System - Catalytic Converter Servicing

i have a 97 crown vic, it acts very sluggish, when reaching speed up to 70-90mph starts to slow bck down, would this have to do with clogged converters and 02sensors, looking into buying 4 new cats and 02 sensors, will this make a difference? what do i do, /?

can anyone help me out? i need to replace my catalytic converter, i see people take the catalytic converter off but if i did that how would i get my car to pass emissions? and wouldnt i get horrible mpg's? and last question can someone tell me a ball park estimate of how much a job like this would cost if i take it to my local muffler shop?

This is old school. Today we have backpressure gauges that go into the O2 ports, no need to drill.

i got a 98 maxima i think my converter is fucked up i give my car gas it moves slow as fuck it takes a little longer than usual to get moving i dont feel like throwing money into it i might just take it off and call it a day fuck emmissions one car wont make a differance in new york

if your vehicle isn't 25 yrs old.... you will have to pass, or you want get your tags. besides, you don't want to be adding to smog and carbon monoxied in the air.

you drive a "fule injected" fule system. I drive a '86 caprice 4brl rodchester carb. If you breathe enough of those harmful fumes....you can die.

@kreigsmann how would i get my care to pass emissions? and wouldnt the mpg's be horrible? mine is bad right now and needs to be replaced and i get horrible mpgs

its all depends on what you drive and how good you take care of it.

the cat just adds resistance to exhaust flow when it is not doing its job.

hack it off.

unless of course you want to spend 1200+ on a new one.

@kreigsmann believe me i would like to just cut it off but i dont know the first thing about it... i do know it throws off the sensors in my 98 bmw 528i and i an getting horrible gas mileage, i also know mine right now (that is bad) will not let my car pass emissions so how can i get around these things?

@thorfoxxx your car is older than 12 years old it is not tested for emissions any longer.

you shouldnt have any problems as long as you do not cut any wires to the sensors.

if you have a sensore after the catylist then you may have to dish the 1200+ if you dont want a check engine light.

depending on how bad you oxygen sensors are you can be getting horrible emissions because of it. it is easily replaced.

ide cut off the cat replace the sensors and deal with the possible check engine light.

@thorfoxxx never strait pipe anything you need back pressure or else you can burn a valve.

of course plenty of white trash strait pipe their 1500w/t and cause all sorts of redneckism

@kreigsmann Hollowing out the converter. Newer vehicles have an O2 sensor after the cat. as well.

there is a way you can make it so it wont have a check engine light but i dont know.
