  • I love the Dueling Banjos, the original version, this one is good too

  • type sorry *your before the spelling police get me O.O

  • i truly wish that everyone would remember that CHILDREN sometimes view things on youtube, as in the muppets which are for children as well as adults and not use profane language or say things that are totally INappropriate for young children..if youre life is so screwed up all you have to live for is typing the things i mentioned, go somewhere else and allow kids to remain kids for the small amount of time they have to be a child and innocent PLEASE

  • Didn't know a guy with all his teeth could play like that!

  • And then they all got raped by hillbillies.

  • Blofeld got tickets to a Muppet show? 0:45

  • Steve Martin is soooo gorgeous.

I hope i get to see him in real life(i live in Sweden so you can imagine how i hate it)

  • I kinda expected him and kermit to play a duet

  • go steve martin i love him in little shop of horrors

  • Steve martin used to play banjo, but he took an arrow to the knee.

  • I remember using a {cassette} tape recorder on this episode of the Muppet Show. When I saw the whole video {OK: chunks of it put together} on YT, I was wondering why it was so familiar. *<|:-DX

  • WTF? Steve Martin was into that bluegrass stuff back then too? I remember watching the Muppet show, but I do NOT remember this, lol!

  • @Lyra74 He's been playing the banjo since his teens

  • why is steve martin dressed like han solo?

  • Comment removed

  • @queido0201 Because Han Solo dressed like some one from the 70's. When Star wars came out he was dressed like a normal person.

  • Steve Martin's facial expressions while he plays are a riot!

  • has anyone noticed that steve martin's hair has been grey since the 70's

  • @Kojjiro Well, yes. It's unusual but awesome.

  • loli always wondered what steve martin looked like before his beautiful white hair...now i know! haha he looks great both ways. oh, and hes a boss on the banjo!

  • just noticed that all the other guys in the band, guitar, fiddle, mouth--harp, all play left-handed.

What' s it mean? I dunno.

  • Comment removed

  • @stratocruising basically all muppets are left-handed. that's because the puppeteer uses the right hand to operate the mouth of the puppet and the left to hold the arm rod.

  • this would have been better if they had Kermit play dueling banjos with martin.

  • They should have gotten Miss Piggy out there so she could squeal like a....you know... :-P

  • @oixor387 LOL! Instant classic, bravo.

  • @oixor387 That whole scene would have been much more pleasant with muppets, I'm sad to say.

  • 8 people are afraid of frogs...

  • i had no idea steve martin even played banjo. woo! :D

  • Oh god... Deliverance.... *weeps* WHY?! I was hoping for something else T-T

  • Ten minutes ago I was watching Ducati motorcycle reviews......how the hell did I end up here?

  • @gyeatfaahkt probably a reference somewhere to a banjo bolt...

  • @gyeatfaahkt ....that's t'internet!

  • @gyeatfaahkt who know who cares?

  • @gyeatfaahkt haha the beauty of the internet especially youtubes haha :P

  • @gyeatfaahkt Because Everything is Better With Muppets!

  • my foot started tapping. thats how great this is! oh how i love the muppets. :)

  • Its toetappingly tragic

  • 1:03 Kermit's clapping is so cute!

  • 8 people would rather squeal like a pig.

  • I love Kermits dancing

  • Loved this show so much growing up

  • and then they got raped.

  • Steve Martin Vs. Kermit, that would've been interesting

  • Which came out first? This or Deliverance?

  • I knew he'd fall for it.

  • The actual name of the song is Appalachian Breakdown I think but it's more commonly referred to as Dueling Banjos

  • Steve is amazing, and I think everyone should seriously give his The Crow album and his new one, Rare Bird Alert, a listen. In this video though, he's not playing his old 1927 Gibson Florentine archtop.

  • Without the Muppets I never would've known Steve Martin could rock a banjo like that!

  • I love banjo man.

  • I never knew Steve Martin could play the banjo!

  • i really want a guitar like the muppet has no strings! id be a pro from the very begining!

  • Steve Martin is still the great!! Thanks from Germany!

  • The muppets are are left-handed because the puppeteer is right-handed. (The puppeteer puts the dominant hand inside the puppet to operate the body and move the mouth, leaving the other hand to move the stick manipulating the hand.)

  • @dunbar9finger A real genius amongst us. Dunbar9, when you reacted on this vid, where was yer 8finger?

  • @hornstra1 What the hell are you talking about?

  • That yeehaw sounded like it came from Alabama ( the country band. I also LOVE how Steve played that banjo.

  • The more I see of Steve's playing the more I realise how very good he is. A great version of this track. BZ

  • Those muppets is real!

  • Was the show in the episode cancelled or the muppet show when they did this?

  • @KevlarNinja The show in the episode was cancelled. The Muppet Show stayed onthe air for a couple more years after that.

  • @toshirodragon OK, just checking.

  • lol charlie daniels muppet

  • yey for singing leeks^^

  • this is some nice dang playing for the muppets i thought it would be a funny joke!!! other than that the yeehawww sounds like dukes of hazard!!! i love that show. great video man.

  • this is some nice dang playing for the muppets i thought it would be a funny joke!!!

  • Ed Helms just referenced this Muppet video in an interview in the LA Times (4/26/11)!

  • That dude played some serious Jug!!

Oh and Steve was awesome as always.

  • He is multi talented. Great singer too. He rips shit up on this!

  • I had NO Idea that Steve Martin could play the banjo! I must have missed this episode.

  • @19RC64 Steve Martin is actually consider one of the world's greatest banjo players

  • What a wild and crazy guy!

  • Love this SOOOOO much!!!!

  • he fits there perfectly:)

  • @gzbm dude he's still alive

  • @stupidskate99 glad it wasn't just me who knows he's alive/ i was worried i'd missed something

  • 6 people are jealous of Steve's skills.

  • Hillbilly muppets ftw

  • Great banjo playing, only matched by his eyebrows.

  • dont call it a violin. its a fiddle gawdammit

  • Minutes later, Martin got raped by the entire jug band.

  • All the Muppets are left handed.

  • @esdrasoliveira That's interesting I had never noticed it before but now I do.

  • I am grateful that I am young enough, but still OLD enough to have seen this show when it was on TV! :-) The clip brought back SOOOO many good memories! Watching the Muppet Show with my ENTIRE family! :-) :-) Those are the days you cherish forever!!! :-) Not to mention, they had GREAT guests!! LOL

  • OMG I think I remember this one when they showed reruns on Nick at Nite wow he is a living lengend. He's one of my fav comedians. :)

  • Gramps was gettin down. Haha!

  • i was on a plane many years ago when i was in the military and met Steve. he put an arrow through his head as a joke. Steve if you remember this call me 636-466-3615.

  • steve martin is so hunky in this vid!!! what happened??

  • @Kelsrizzle It's called aging.

  • @Kelsrizzle Time.....it makes us all look bad after awhile

  • The guy with the mouth harp looks like Castro.

  • Steve Martin = Talent

  • @getplaning I totally agree that Steve Martin is talented. Funny to read in his book "Born Standing Up" that he didn't think he was talented at all, and had to work really hard to make it 'look like' he was. I think he's a really talented musician and meticulously prepared performer/master of timing!! I grew up listening to Let's Get Small over and over!!

  • Steve Martin needs to stop making family-friendly movies and get back to playing the banjo with puppets.

  • Steve plays Banjo?! (head explodes)

  • This certainly beats that ill-judged film with Beyonce -- here he's not making a fool of himself! "a guy with all his teeth" -- love it!

  • Steve Martin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love him!!!!!!

  • he is good

  • I love this little piece of music. <3 I could watch that scene in Deliverance over and over again, but it's especially fun to watch other musicians play it in their own unique ways. Even Muppets. XD

  • cool!!

  • "yeh, it's back the way you came"

  • this music reminds me "Deliverance" with Burt Reynolds! a great movie ...cheers

  • Why are all the muppets LEFT handed? this is an awesome video!!!!

  • @KC8YOQ Because most of the puppeteers are left handed. Jim Henson of course was one.

  • @JohnSilverfan01 Well really that is not quite true! i found out that the puppeteer faces the muppet and since tthe puppeteer is right handed it make the muppet left handed! Google it to see for yourself!

  • @KC8YOQ Okay. But still some Like Henson were leftys

  • JEW HARPPPP

  • Steve Martin is my favorite comedian of all time.

  • Yes, Steve can actually play the banjo for real & he is so amazing! What a great talent!!!! :-)

  • Squeal like a pig?

  • @freaker142

Thank you!! I'm from Italy...and I love Banjo, Steve Maritn and muppet show too!

  • THANKS! Its nice to meet a fan!

  • @RealOkotta doesn't everyone love the Muppets? I didn't know Steve Martin played, I thought he just did average films. He plays a storm!

  • What's the song name?

  • Dueling Banjos

  • @freaker142

not realy.. that is just the name of the arrangement. The name of the original song is "Yankee doodle"

  • That muppeteer for the violin playing muppet is some nice work, seems so lifelike. oh and steve is awesome too =D

  • That's Gramps - Preformed by Frank Oz!

  • @freaker142 Frank Oz and Jim Henson were master muppeteers just watch Sesame Street they still show stuff they did in the 70's!

  • @FIFAMAN07C3 yeah first thing i thought to. I had to catch myself and realize that it is actually someone else making the music. (or is it....?)

  • @FIFAMAN07C3 Steve Martin was also so lifelike!

  • hes dressed liked Han solo

  • mouth harp solo for the win

  • I heard Steve Martin not too long ago on NPR. I believe he recently put out an album of American banjo music. Some of what I heard during the NPR interview was pretty amazing stuff.

  • That is true. He is an AMAZING banjo picker.

  • bluegrass metal good idea or no

  • i want to learn the banjo, even though im into metal and i play drums i still want to learn

  • Well. Go Steve! I didn't even know he could play! .Talk about a multi-talented individual...

  • muppets, steve martin + bluegrass = awesome?

  • Hard to pick between this & edgar cruz' version

    I like them both

  • That belongs on my good clean fun playlist and that is where it went!

  • Thanks!

  • yiiiiiiiiiiiiiiijaaaaaaaaaaaaa........ jejejejejejejeje

  • from what I understand steve martin really plays the banjo. I guess he has a bunch of banjos sitting out at his house and drive his guest almost nuts by playing it for them every chance he gets. I frinking love steve martin.

  • Steve Martin is a Grammy award winner for playing the banjo, he is far more than just a common player. He is currently out on tour playing across the US

  • People that can play banjo are very talented and coordinated.
