  • Oooh, we sung this with my church choir a couple of weeks ago. I just love though we don't get to sing it very often. ^-^

  • Excellent song! Thanks for sharing. I heard this a couple of years ago while visiting my brother and his wife and felt like it just reached out and grabbed me. One of those songs that people probably sang so many hundreds of years ago and if it is possible to be taken back then that's exactly what it did :)

  • Lov it. Great 4 calming me down

  • This is my favorite

  • I love singing this in my church choir. It's one of my favorites.

  • love this it was sung at church to day

  • This video reminds me of when my conversion began in earnest. It was sung at Saturday mass where I went for the first time and I came home and found this video. Is there a way to download it in case it ever gets taken down? I wouldn't want to lose it now! Thanks for making it.

  • @forgetfulmuse You can download the song from iTunes itself by searching for "Canticle of the Turning," and I believe it was from the album, "Safety Harbor."

If you like the video, too--I think there are some programs out there that lets you copy videos from YouTube. I don't know of any programs personally, but you might be able to Google for help with that. I also keep the file on my external hard drive, if you would like me to email you a copy.

  • @DecemberSnow1231 Oh that would be kind of you. I have the song, but I like the video with it to remind me of that day. thag_jones [at] yahoo [dot] com

  • I was raised Mormon; I left the Church when I was 16. For years, I had no religion. Then when I went to College, my friend Alex invited me to a mass, this Song was the closing song. I have since decided to become Catholic; I will be baptized, confirmed, and receive first communion this Easter vigil Mass. Thank you God for letting me find my way.

  • We sang this at my school every Tuesday in 2010. It was AWESOME!

  • I'm a methodist who attended a catholic mass for the first time at the behest of my girlfriend, who is catholic. We sang this song at the end; truly beautiful.

  • @Magzillas My husband is Presbyterian and I'm Catholic, and we started attending each other's churches on a weekly basis after we'd been dating for a while. It's helped us so much to understand each other's religious beliefs. Kudos to you for seeing what Mass looks like!

  • I am an ELCA Lutheran from South Carolina. Today (September 26), our Sunday School Lesson was taken from Exodus 34: 1, 4-10. The title was "God's Steadfast Love." This hymn is recommended when this Scripture is read. It is #723 in Evangelical Lutheran Worship.

  • nice song, different style of hymns when compared to those traditional type.

  • absolutely beautiful

  • I love this song!!! We sing this from time to time during Mass. Everytime I hear it and join in singing it, I feel it is a battle song, a song of victory to all the enemies of the Church and of Christendom, a warning and a prophecy against those who would mock us when we are down, who would crown us with a crown of thorns and use our shame against us. " you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it." Beautiful Song.

  • @comrade1789 I couldn't agree with you more! It is a prophecy for remember the words of this song are interpreted from the Magnificat.

  • @comrade1789 I agree- it stirs your blood and make you to go out and spread the word. It is a wonderful song--a song of hope & courage.

  • This is one of my favorite vernacular Christian hymns. A powerful expression of the prophetic denunciation of the rich and powerful that runs so strong through both the New and Old Testament, which we in our complacency too often forget . Praise be to Christ Our Lord and long live the Revolution !

  • masterorganist, I believe you mean arranger. This is an old traditional tune.

  • I was so pleased to find this here on YouTube. It's one of my favorites, and we only sing it at mass a couple of times a year, if that.

The tune itself is, of course, "The Star of the County Down."

  • @cbhagman Yeah, it's no secret that most hymns(especially the good ones) were based on folk/bar songs. At least

  • @cbhagman Yeah, it's no secret that most hymns(especially the good ones) were based on folk/bar songs. At least that's what i've come to believe.

  • You're welcome! I found it on iTunes, in case you wanted to get the song for yourself. I think it was from the album "Safety Harbor".

  • Thanks for the post. I've been trying to find a quality version of this song for a long time.
