  • ...I want one...

  • over 9000....^^

  • just point it directly towards the water!

  • whats the fuel consumption on a unit like that?? what is the fuel?

  • 0:26 in the water

  • and thats a hot dildo :P

  • It almost looks like a light saber up towards the nozzle.

  • cool lighter

  • BADDDDD ASSSSS!!!!!! i wanna light my spliff with that!!!

  • @KRAYSLiCK999 you'd end up burning your eyebrows off lol (almost happened to me trying to light to light my spliff off a stove)

  • chuck norris zippo....

  • Comment removed

  • Who brought the marshmellows? Anyone?

  • @jonalululy

It's a company where people shoot armadillos real high into the sky.

  • yeah that usualy gets it done

  • NOS!

  • Fuck yeah John Carmack, You gave us Doom now give us the Moon

  • @robotguy You got diamonds on the flames. isn't that bad?

  • How many lbs of thrust did this rocket produce?

  • They spend all their time here, no wonder Quake was in hibernation.

  • Put your Hand in there :P

  • 0__o

    pretty.......fucking awesome......

  • can you say flamethower on a tank

  • Why the water ?

  • @LupiWolfman well water puts out fire

  • I want one of those... how much may they cost?

  • thats an impressive engine.. what was the thrust output? psi of fuel and rate the your pump had to operate? how much fuel does a rig like this burn per minute? need a shop geek? a scientist or technician's assistant's assistant? shop janitor? shop janitor's assistant? kudos guys, it really was a great video. ive never seen such a perfectly focused engine. do you guys make solid rocket fuel too? and ever use nitrous oxide mixtures?

  • Kame-hame-haaaaaaaa!

  • that looks like inside a truck bay with bunch of barrels around

  • Cool lol

  • Did it produce water as a waste???!???

  • @PLxFTW no thats a sound suppression thing.

  • @R3MUS2007 Oh. If that was water that would be awesome.

  • @PLxFTW yea if you notice from the beginning its a pool of water, check out the ripples just as it starts up. But yea it would have been cool if this thing produced water, but then that would make it a LOX/H2O2(Hydrogen Peroxide) powered engine, not LOX/CH4O(Methanol) engine.

  • shock diamonds on that engine were gorgeous

  • imagine that and nos on a car

  • wow hybrid booster

  • thats one way to get water to boil faster

  • wat is the engines propelent?

  • @lbochtler I think they were using methanol and liquid oxygen for this test. Their rockets have changed a lot since this video was posted.

  • @robotguy how much thrust does this produce?

  • wave maker

  • can u hold it while u use it? jk

  • That's a rocket engine!

  • IRL lightsaber?

  • ree piola!!!!

  • So uh what ratios did you use for that fuel........

  • how much thrust is it producing?

  • @smokescreenninja

    Mach Diamonds.

  • *yawn* ....i have one of those in my backyard....jk. cool as hell.

  • why are we even bothering with chemicals? i mean exhaust velocities of 3 km/s aren't gonna get us anywhere, and a take-of-mass / payload ratio of 1/25 for GTO is just ridiculous.

  • that´sn the nicest rocket engine i´ve ever seen!

  • now thats a BBQ grill.

  • Insta-burgers!

    Who wants some!

  • @FreonRose yeah , the hotdogs would be ready in one milisecond

  • @smokescreenninja

    Actually they're called Mach Diamonds

  • do the lights go out or is it that the flame is overwhelming the camera

  • the flame is overwhelming the camera

  • @monimstarfox It's called auto-exposure. The flame is much brighter than the ambient light, and hence the camera automatically adjusts the exposure to accommodate.

  • what is it now that its called when the flame looks like some sort of diamonds or something :S

  • mach diamonds , I love this engine !!!!!

  • ya they look awesome.. i wanna touch it :D

  • :D that would be fun to touch :D

  • i would totally play around with it like a candle.. you know quickly putting your finger in and then out again ^^ but i think you would get a nasty burn by that flame xD

  • Cooooool errr....flame!?

  • looks like a lightsaber!

  • I would like to see u stick your face in it and then tell me its not hot.

  • can someone explain to me how the engine works? like what is making the power? i understand how car combustion engine. but how does this beast work?>

  • Gas expansion and a nozzle

  • waw!!! more upgrade i think it can use for SpaceShips...!

  • amazing..omg..hope u guys keep working on it.

one day we'll hit mars.or other planet in which we can live on.

    Strive farther for humanity.

  • I don't think John Carmack has to worry about getting his money back...he basically invented first person shooters. His gaming company has sold millions upon millions of copies of games since the 80's...he's simply putting it back into science man!

  • amazing engine

  • Why do you wish to discourage people that might show us how we have been doing it wrong? 20 mil might go a long way in the right hands..... I can only hope if any beings got a glimpse at carl sagan's voyager plaques that they come back in 20 years because if they came around recently they surely saw us as idiots.

  • hahaha, when all else fails mount that SOB to a concrete truck dock! LOL, that was a awesome run!

  • por que ese color azul?

  • están utilizando el metanol como combustible, y ese quema el azul

  • Aha gracias.

  • Sweeter than candy.

  • What's the advantage of using this kind of fuel besides the pretty flames? Looks really powerful, but does it weigh more?

  • Advantage of liquids at all? Or over cryogenic fuel? Liquid hydrogen is hard to store. That in some instances prevents its use, or makes it less attractive. Smaller craft, long storage, lower technical ability, etc.

Liquids as a whole are much more efficient than solids. They are often the better choice. But not always the best. All three: solids, hybrids, and liquids have a place and time where they are best.

  • Pretty sure this is a mono-prop motor. One tank instead of two, and non-cryogenic. Big advantage over two cryo-tanks. Biggest drawback is storing high test H2O2. It can be nasty stuff.

  • Send back some HDTV video from the moon; go ahead and win the Google Lunar X-Prize. $20 million is just sitting there waiting for you.

  • top secret though

  • Ah. Perhaps this rather public website isn't the place for you to be discussing it then. ;)

  • a student of devry, who'da thunk it....

  • weirdos =_="

  • Thanks :)

  • Boy is that good looking : )

  • What kind of fuel is in this burner ??

  • I'm not 100% certain, but looking back through Armadillo's news archives, I think they're using methanol and liquid oxygen.

  • Yeah alcohol and the O's. Not sure how reliable cryogenic O2 is going to be for use on the moon or after long storage - they may have to go with more funky mixes at some point, no more pretty flames :)

  • Nice Stuff

  • Wow! I could see the supersonic shock rings in the center of the blue exhaust flame ! It must have been ear splitting!
