  • Pete, make me a favor. Do never die.

  • Pete, make me a favor. Do never die.

  • Pete, make me a favor. Do never die.

  • muitas vidas foram ceifadas por causa de politica e religiao, e hoje em dia continuam a serem ceifadas, vidas preciosas que DEUS deu me so ele poderia tirar.

  • be it war politics or religion ..........the message is clear ....when will we ever learn

  • You people in west are so brain wash, you goverments are imperialistic & colonial pigs, thounsends & thousends civilians has been killed by your army's so fuck your self!!!! >>PEACE<<

  • Everyone of you has valid opinions...and so does Pete(he is SO right)... we will NEVER learn!!

  • @seraVmiskiel Every single war always seems to be oen person's fault. If it weren't for hitler, the secodn world war would not have happened. If it weren't for Stalin, more than 13,000,000 would not have starved. If it weren't for Mao, 30,000,000 would have gone about thier lives peacefully instead of dying in pits. If it weren't for Che and Castro, more than 10,000 would still be alive and more than a million would still be free. If it weren't for Bush, my friends would still be alive...

  • Don't forget the million+ Vietnamese who also died for no reason.

  • pete seeger is one of the greatest americans, ever. true to his ideals, a sense of fairness and right, i've admired him my entire life. i hope he lives forever.

  • This song is a blessing to hear. Thank you for posting. It brings to center that we experienced in the 60's and is just as important today. Where have all the flowers (soldiers) gone? Love it. PeAcE.

  • Its a song about a man, missing things, that were are close to him. Objects, held in high regard.

  • love this - a favourite of all time

  • Pete, you're the best. Nice work with your grandson.

  • Gracias por el vídeo y por la información.

  • I remember Pete from the Weavers and all the years since. I wish he could go on forever.

  • many more days to you

  • Happy Birthday!!

  • this song makes me cry , especially in these bad times

  • this song makes me cry

  • @GODUCKGO me too...

  • Da macht mich ganz traurig.

    Sie werden NIE verstehn. NIE.

Egal ob Pete das singt oder Joan oder Marlene Dietrich.

    Sie werden nie verstehen.

Es lebe Marlene Dietrich. Patriotin und Pazifistin in einer Person!

  • Ice Cream Changes!

  • i love this song so beautiful

  • Pete Seeger has written some beautiful and meaningful songs. I am sorry that his politics have leaned a bit too far to the left and has tended to take up causes, some of them unjust, simple because they are popular with liberals...

Still, I think a good man whom I give a lot of credit to for his wonderful contributions to the music field and to folk music.

  • Started looking for "little boxes" by Pete for my grown up daughter Vicky who asked about it - and found this. Who can fail to be moved by this? Trip down memory lane as well. Wonderful.

  • Pete Seeger believes in his music and he does right! Of couse he is no JoeCocker or a Jimi Hendirx! He never want to be it! He is pete seeger! He is a poet!!!

  • @lvmfah In most societies, at the root of blatant inequality, lies untold stories of exploitation, extortion and selfish motives. If we can get rid of those root causes, equality will be a very natural part of humanity. Of course it can't be achieved and sustained with force/tyranny/war. That's exactly why this song is about peace and against war.

  • I saw him in an empty lot in Killeen, TX. in 1971. We could barely hear him because an army helicopter hovered overhead the entire time. But he gave it his best and sang for about an hour. There are some people who are just good through and through and he's one of them, a person with the courage of his convictions.

  • What a lovely soul!

  • Pete, you're my hero!

My mom first saw Pete perform with the Weavers at her high school in LA (1950's) - captivated the audience with Wimoweh... she took me to see Pete and Arlo when I was a teen (70's). After one of the shows she she put $1 in Pete's back pocket for a copy of Sing Out!!!!(mom!) I was so fortunate to see Pete perform just last year in SF. I've played banjo for 30 years now, but I think it's time I start to sing out myself... maybe it's time we all sing out.

  • One of the finest, thought provoking, and emotional songs ever written.

All those countless broken and ruined lives.............

  • Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields. I rewrote he last verse of McRea's Poem Precious jungen, the foe we fought They lie also in Flanders field. For pain and death for ALL was brought Though speeches, pomp and hymns conceal The vanity. Now we know that all's for nought.
  • @ifuliki

Is this poem of your own composition?

  • @tpcass NO! This poem encourages young men to fight and perhaps die. My sentiments are expressed in my rewriting the last verse of McRae's poem. But I addressed it to Geman youth (ie Jungen) since all patriotic twaddle designed to encourag young men to fight and die are to be found in Gemansy as much as in any other country. Yes I was a soldier and bore arms for my country.

    Aled

  • If he dies young there's medals to win

Killing the foe now that's no sin

    For war is our salvation

And we're a proud good nation.

Take this boy in age just eight

A warrior now we'll soon create

Wars to come 'll be the test

And prove to all that we're the best

    Aled

  • Take this boy in age just eight

Fill his head with words of hate

Teach him loyalty to his brothers

In his nation, but not the others.

Send him to a foreign shore

Give'm a gun and bullets galore

Tell him that the foe must die

Families must grieve; leaders to sigh

  • Jackie: THANK YOU SO MUCH for posting all the Wolftrap songs. When Pete is gone, this will be treasured material. He was 74 at this time, now he's 91. And Tao looks like a young teenager still retaining hs baby fat. Arlo doesn't seem to have changed much :-). This is probably my favorite mucis. I listen to it over and over....

  • Jackie, thanks so much for posting all the Wolftrap songs. This is just precious history. Pete is 91 now and Tao looks like a baby in these clips, There are so many versions of this song out there, but hearing the audience makes this one of my favorites.

  • someone tell me how this connects to the catcher in the rye

  • I hope Pete lives to be 100...I really do.... :-)

  • Thanks so very much for this video! Cant believe that pete is 90yrs of age,my how time soon passes. This song will go on forever.{ Shame, Wars will also} Pete is a true legend.Wish him the best of health and another 10yrs of singing. Love from the UK.

  • Forever is a long time.Since one cant see it its difficult to say just what changes for the good have been made in just the last 90 yrs-but I would think Pete,Flowers,ECT had some input there.

  • Hi 1Canyonguy,

Yes, so true. What an input.Well put.!!! My 20 yr old son {who writes his own songs} heard it for the first time just a few weeks ago and was Blown away!!! Maybe this will help put more meaning to the young songwriters songs. They should listen to more songs and writers like P.S.

  • Flowers of a great man!

  • My 401 K and Roth IRA aren't doing to good either.

To be a classic, it must stant the test of time, and unfortionitly it has. War has not gone away.

  • oh Lord ,tuday...happy birthday Pete

  • happy birthday Mr Seeger!!!

  • This is awesome! Don't forget Pete Seeger's 90th birthday on May 3rd 2009! Google "For Pete's Sake: Sing!" to find a celebration in your area!

  • Jackie, you make my hair stand on end with this. What memories!! I knew and followed Pete first, but I actually heard Peter Paul and Mary sing this song before I knew it was his.

  • not grat, I mean great (sorry)

  • If it did not exist people like Pete Seeger, there had been an even more brutal world, that the World is today. For me Pete Seeger is a grat American Patriot, and a man of great humanity. We are many millions of people in other countries that love him and his mission for peace.

  • A CLASSIC folk tune

  • Get a life

  • you cant call a communist a fascist they are two different spectrums of politics, secondly I have no idea what you are talking about apart from calling a man who loves peace and equality a criminal.

The song is clearly about soldiers dying, written during a time of an unneccessary war.

  • I heard the Weavers and Kingston Trio but apart from that I do not speak French!

Infact it was not based on the words by Sholokov, he only merly stated them in a novel they are merly words to an old Ukranian folk song.

  • see my answer in another page. Seeger communist and Sholokov too.On the album of Joa

  • Look the jacket of Joan Baez"s album you can read : "By Peete Seeger, inspired by a passage in Mikhail Sholokov's The Silent Don" Do you read Sakarov,Pasternak or Alexandre Soljenitsine. Me I ear the cries of millions of victims of red fascism in the goulag and I have seen their tears. Not you ?

  • my answer is on another page, but read the jacket of the Joan Baez"s album "Farewell Angelina" ; by Pete Seeger, inspired by a passage in Mikhail Sholokhov"s The Silent Don. Now read Soljenitsine. Me I ear the cries in the red goulag and I see the tears of poor victims, million and millions,of the communist system? Not you ?

  • my answer is on anoher pages . But you remember the cries and the tears of millions and millions of poor people smahed by the goulag and communist system.

  • @IrishandFolkmusic congratulations.

  • @IrishandFolkmusic unnecessary war ?...hmmm sounds alot like today...WE NEED A NEW GENERATION OF HIPPIES

  • @sirklondike303 Because Vietnam was such a necessary war right? the domino effect and all oh no wait there was no domino effect and thousands upon thousands of US citizens died for NO REASON.

  • "Remember Seeger vs Bob Dylan at 1965 Newport Festival wonderfuf standing."

Ummm... fanchbrezoneg, I was AT the 65 Newport Folk Festival. I remember it well, this many years later. What would you like to know about it. :-)

This song, and Pete Seeger, are unique.

  • Nothing thank you, i read many books about Seeger vs Dylan at Newport Festival 65and I have the videos VHS or DVD of a comie old man, son of his father Charles.

  • And you've made it quite apparent here that, by reading books and watching videos, you have learned only what you wanted to learn.

  • yes when the authors are Robert Shelton , Paul Stockey or Dylan himself, and the video are clear

  • HEY FRENCH LOSER @fanchbrezoneg, what are you doing here??? lolzz

  • And now he and Tao (With the Boss, Bruce Springsteen!) have played for the Inauguration! From Blacklist to Inauguration Guest...

  • There are only a handful of people who are truly legends, and only a couple of those we are blessed to still have with us...

  • Jackie, i like what you said about Pete in the info!! I will be 30 in January and i'm excited about Pete turning 90 in March more so than my own!! that man will live to 100 he just doesn't know it yet!! Happy memories!!

  • I think I speak for all Arlo/Pete fans when I say, "Thank you Jackie!"

  • excellent
