Thanks for posting this great Ray Charles classic. The sheet music for Ray's original piano part on "What'd I Say" can be found at manymidi.com/sheetmusic.htm - a note-for-note transcription.
@arktikmokys It's you and me and some kid who was at Altamont. The mailman, Penny Marshall, Ray Manzarak, Robbie Krieger, John Densmore, Goldie Hawn, Donald Sutherland, a Frenchman who baked bread in the 70's, Neil Armstrong, a sheep herder named Phil in New Zealand, the entire cast of the Muppet Show, Jim Morrison before he died, a twelve year old girl named Molly who is watching Young Frankenstein for the first time now, Charlie Chaplin, Joe Namath, but not Charlie Chaplin. Among others.
I used to have this song (What'd I say) in an album, sung by a black guy with a strong voice. The front cover showed him standing and one or two girls at his feet. It was a mid 70's or early 80's album. I lent it to a guy who I have never seen again. It was like 30 years ago and now I can't remember further details from the album, neither the singer's name nor the other songs' names but I love his version of this song and would like to have it again. Could any1 tell me which singer was that pl?
How I know about Mr.Ray Charles? Growing up my grandpa will play his music. By the graces of God he still does. Mr.Ray Charles might be gone but his memory and his music will live on.
I had the pleasure of seeing Ray Charles perform at The Valley Forge Music Fair in 1991. For me....it was unforgettable. Ray, the backup singers, the band. All were totally world class. Ray seemed almost otherworldly in his performance. Its hard to describe. Anyway it was a blast !
@mlw7890 The song you're thinking of is called " Night Time (Is The Right Time) " and the woman singing "Baby!" is Margie Hendricks. They depicted its recording in the movie "Ray" starring Jamie Foxx, and they also did a version on The Cosby Show, back in the 80s, with Rudy's character lip-synching with Margie's vocals. Quite famous.
xD Estas dos canciones son geniales, aunque sólo staba buscando Unchain my heart interpretada por Ray, si alguien se pilla por ahí un video en donde sólo aparezca esa, plis pásenmelo. Sólo han montado puros covers de esa canción...
Unchain My Heart is one of my favorite Ray Charles songs. In fact it just may be my favorite. I love this What'd I Say and Unchain My Heart combo is great music. RIP Ray Baby!
I was in LA and got a shortcut to "el callejon" because the hwy was too jammed...and while driving, the hearse carrying Rays body drove past as paparazzi flashed lights and we pulled over to see it go by...it was an awesome exp. to be right there at that moment...what a Blessing...RIP Ray. GREAT MUSIC! CLASSIC!
Thanks for posting these GREAT songs I love so much!!! Merci ;)
THANKS FOR SHARING...GREAT TUNES FROM AN AMAZING AND INFLUENTIAL ARTIST.
WARNING: IF YOU'RE SITTING AT A DESK OR IN YOUR CAR WHILE LISTENING, THEN.....GOOOOD LUCK!
