Actually, this show was inspired by the movie, "Springfield Rifle" , starring Gary Cooper, about an Army officer in the Civil War who was supposedly court - martialed for cowardice , but was in fact an agent for the Army.
Know what's really interesting? What served as an introduction to a TV series back in the day, now almost stands alone as a YouTube video of just the perfect length, storyline, and production values.
All but one man died, There at Bitter Creek, And they say he ran away ... Branded! Marked with a coward's shame. What do you do when you're branded, Will you fight for your name? He was innocent, Not a charge was true, But the world will never know ... Branded! Scorned as the one who ran. What do you do when you're branded, And you know you're a man? And wherever you go for the rest of your life You must prove ... You're a man!
samk1101 The theme music was by Dominic Frontiere, and the lyricist was Alan Alch. Frontiere also composed the theme for "The Outer Limits" and "The Invaders," among others...
@thewhistler: Wouldn't it be amazing if the same software company got the licence from CBS Studios to make a video game similar to Red Dead Redemption, but based on Branded and The Rifleman?
@glimmer2158 That joke really got around back then.lol .... wherever you go for the rest of your life, you must prove you're a man- ....gotta use your hand.
The best of the western intros in my opinion. Though it was hard not seeing Chuck with his famous Winchester. It took a while for me to get used to Branded.
Arthur Digby Sellers wrote one hundred and fifty six episodes; the bulk of the series. Not exactly a lightweight. ...And yet, his son is a fucking dunce.
@popoff21 why did they kick him out? because he didn't die like the other men who went off to the battle of bitter creek during the imperialist conquest and genocide of the nations of original peoples of north america.
@intrepgun: Well, it was more because his commanding officer went nuts during the climatic battle, and he tried to stop him, only to survive and be arrested for desertion under fire or cowardice. But yeah, that could be a factor, too.
Stranded! Stranded on a toilet bowl! What do you do when your stranded! And you don't have a roll? To prove your a man, you must wipe with your hand . . . . when you don't have a roll . . . Stranded!
I usually think responding to the "one dislike" situation is a mute point... however, the one who disliked this probably looked in the mirror and realized it was them, got all butt hurt and offended, and then hit the dislike button. They probably even went as far afterwards to cut their wrists, which in my opinion is just fine with me. F'in cowards...
Branded was the adventures of Jason McCord. Accused of cowardice at Bitter Creek, he travelled the West to prove his innocence. Man, shows today will never have great opening credit sequences like this. No way in HELL would a network allow that and miss out on 90 seconds of more commercials.
One of my favorite shows when I was a child. I used to feel so bad for him, to see his stripes and buttons torn from his uniform shirt, and then having is sword broken and thrown out the gate. He knew he was innocent but they didn't at the time. I would sure like to the episodes on You Tube in their entirety.
I have great memories of Chuck Connors as Lucas McCain and also as the role he played on "Branded", He switched from ABC to NBC. Gone too soon. Miss you,
Odd thing.... showing off yankees in "Living color" just showed them off as being even moreso silly carpetbagging yankees.
I cant remember the last time I watched network TV. I just dont give a rat's rear end about dainty men finding other dainty men. White trash women on TV...Oh well.
what , there was a color version of this show , wow geez .. i watched it with my b-w tv set there . although the rifleman should be in color in the 60s there but wasnt because of money from 4 star ..
I loved all the westerns from the 50s and 60s they had an underlying message of being honorable courages and having INTEGRITY something that most people today have no clue of. Those were good days of tv. My family would get together at our house of my Great Uncles and there would be 30 of us to eat dinner and watch the westerns. Good times back then. Chuck Conners was always my favorite!
We played out this scenario when a chap left our firm. I snapped a pencil over my knee and showed him the door. Mind you, beyond the door was a pub where we all piled in and forgave him.
