Typical Plastic Paddies -,Our Blood,Our great Irish dead? Most of you are Yanks, and think that because your great grandmother once owned an Irish Wolfhound that you must be irish. If you were born in USA you are American,if you were born in Ireland you are Irish.Strange how all Americans with Irish ancestry are all Catholic and pro IRA.No protestants.Let's all support Noraid > IRA Weapons Suppliers for Protestant Murder.!Come and live here, and witness the results, maybe then you'll open you're eyes
@strongarmofthepaw Oh, go fuck yourself. The only real Americans are the native ones..the rest are mostly either European and African ancestry. So how about you get the fuck off this video if you don't like the music? And are you from the North? Because then after what you just said..you would be Irish, huh?
@Saintliked I was born in Belfast therefore i am Northern Irish as opposed to Southern Irish.BIG difference! You are "Where you're BORN." Maybe if you had to live through a sustained bombing campaign for 30 years in your own home town/city,and witness it getting blown apart every day you would think differently. The rest of the world looks to the future - Irish republicanism lives in the past.Even if you got you're United Ireland it would still not be enough. What % Native Irish live in ROI now?
@Saintliked Less and less as time goes by .English culture (if they have any) is slowly being eroded by immigrants with their own religion, akin to what the Ulster Scots did to Ireland.Coventry is now the first English city with a non-white majority, with Leicester,B'ham and W'hampton not far behind. The main difference between RC's and Prods is religion, but saying that they are both Christian , fairly similar and Irish in their own way. Bigr cultural problems will arise with Islam and Sharia law.
@strongarmofthepaw You seem to have forgotten the *reason* for the bombing campaign; the IRA prior to the beginning of the Troubles was trying to move away from the nationalism and sectarianism that had hijacked the reformist-Republicanism in the south and were making overtures for a united working class movement against imperialism. It was the violent reaction of Orange organizations and the state to the Catholic civil rights movements that split the PIRA out of the OIRA and lead to violence.
@FungalSheep I am aware of the reasons, some very valid and some not so.From a Prod point of view - We were being slowly forced into a UI .similar to the way Ireland was forced to accept British rule. The Irish fought against that! The simple truth is that a UI will involve all citizens of NI.to adopt Irish ways - sport, culture, language etc,But we are not British and we are not Irish. We have our own traditions and our culture is a mix of Irish and Scottish. We are one of a kind.
@strongarmofthepaw Now, obviously, the bombing campaign was wrong- it was *not*, as some claim, only targeting military or economic targets, and it was an expression of regressive, counter-productive nationalism and sectarianism. I have protestant friends in Omagh* and I do not support or defend the bombing campaign- but to condemn it without recognizing the causes, or acknowledging the brutality of loyalist paramilitaries and the state, is dishonest.
@strongarmofthepaw So, quick question: If people who move to a new country are supposed to identify as members of that nation and only as members of that nation, why do Ulster-Scots not identify as Irish and only Irish? If people who move from Ireland to America are supposed to feel no connection to or loyalty to Ireland, why do Ulster-Scots feel connection and loyalty to a British union based in England?
One also has to object to the narrative about Irish-Americans that assumes Irish-Americans came to America, assimilated, and had nothing to do with Ireland until the Troubles started and they founded NORAID. This is a myth. The Irish-American community, which itself was largely driven to America by British colonialism, has been active in Irish Republican politics (as well as, from Ulster-Scots, loyalism and anti-Catholicism) since the diaspora began.
@FungalSheep I think you will find the percentages vary greatly.Noraid funded the IRA and supplied money and arms to continue the Troubles and the murder campaign against fellow "Irishmen",who had a different cultural outlook to them.Make no mistake .the main people who suffered during this campaign were the people of NI.Not the British army or the British people. We are Northern Irish.
@FungalSheep We were born in Northern Ireland which has always had a massive Scottish influence for thousands of years as Scotland is closer to Belfast than the whole of the Irish Republic..Remember the whole of Ireland was under British rule until the Irish Free State emerged and that was better in every way for NI..All Americans love old mother Ireland ,but none of them would move there. They see an ideal, not a reality.I,m pleased they see it as a homeland, but with rose tinted spectacles.
@strongarmofthepaw Id move there for sure, lands are more beautiful than any great plains in the USA. And your history is way off it has only had influence from scottish and english present since the 1600's. Originally thousands of years ago we were all Celts. Scots and Irish alike worshiping Pagan gods, until the the Normans came and massacred all of the english and some Scots and Irish. Our Celtic tradition lived on and the English became Norman.
Glad you liked it. Just got Christy Moore album "The Time Has Come" and that song was on it. As I was listening to it in the car I could see the pictures to match the music. It only took about a half an hour to put it together and post it. I try to always remember our history so our young people won't forget those who died for Irish freedom. Thanks again for the encouragement. It means a lot.
