  • ummmmmm.......was that a cougar at 4:29 ?

  • Going outside when my house was in the eye of the storm was probably the eeriest thing I've ever been through. Pasadena, TX.

  • went down there with the Texas national guard in front of the civic center was a bad time

  • Galveston has always had a place in my heart. A week after Ike, My buddy and I quit our jobs to do relief work. We went down there (from Waco) with nothing but sleeping bags and motorcycles and did all we could for a month without pay and leaving our families behind. Thank God the poop deck and the spot were still around. We rode before the sun rose from Destination Luna (in LaMarque) to the island every morning and back well after it set. We were the "mohawk brothers" camping off our bikes.

  • I lived in Houston at the time of this hurricane.... it made landfall 10 days before my 18th birthday... Man, i'm 20 years old now and it still feels like it was yesterday...

  • IMPORTANT!!! Watch, A HOME FIT FOR ROYALTY!!!

  • Two things about Ike. A combination of high tide and Gulf current made the tide start rising 24 hours before the storm hit. The Galveston Bay area was flooded the day before the storm and then saw a storm surge that normally would have been brought in by a much larger hurricane.

Much of the Houston area was without power for several weeks. An army of utility crews came from as far away as Michigan and California to restore electricity to the city's residents, working 7 days a week. Thanks...

  • That storm was something else. Anyone who didn't flee Galveston took their life in their hands. I lived in Spring and the storm whipped around and pounded us with full force. Knocked down trees, Ripped off roofs. Lucky for us, we didn't lose power for but a day, but other side of street didn't have for a month! It definitely was an experience to remember.

  • Very powerful video. I lost my family home to hurricane Ike and because of this my grandfather fell into a deep depression and passed away less than 3 months after the storm. Just curious...did I see a lioness roaming free in one of the pics??

  • Beautiful video! The song goes perfect for the images, very well done.

  • wonderfull video thank the lord my house was ok when got bacc from san antonio.i m sorry 4 all the lost. = (

  • Awesome video dude. I suffered through ike. I lost part of my roof on the house but we rebuild though. I was seeing everyone in neighborhoods helping eachother up and clean. I even saw people actually outside hanging out talking friendly and cooking in pits. It was awesome seeing all that happen after the hurricane. Shows we are more tougher against a hurricane like this if we can recover this fast.

  • 2:20 i have a picture identical to that one (not the same though)

  • That shit was nt fun aht all I thought my damn house was going to fall but I was glad we ddnt have to go to school for two weeks

  • I rode this one out in my apartment in Houston. I remember telling myself that I would NEVER do that again. Somehow, I kind of miss the fury of such a powerful storm. It was a beast and words will never describe what it was really like around 4AM. Nice Video!

  • Great video!! God Bless

  • Its funny how people don't talk about Hurricane Ike but they still talk about hurricane katrina and its been 5 years since Katrina.

  • cool

  • yeah try beeing in it riding it out.........not so fun when a helicopter has to come fly you out of there :( i dont think im gonna forget siting on a boat fixing to go out to sea in the middle of that shit

  • Wow ! I cried thru the whole video, very good job of portraying the Hurricane. Galveston was my home for a very long time, my heart will always be on the island. IBC ! Islander By Choice (my daughter is a BOI Born On Island and proud .

  • Not a dry in the house. I stayed for the storm, an as I watch this I can remember the morning after as it was just yesterday. We may have lost every thing, we never lost hope.

  • Very moving video. What a horrible ordeal everyone experienced! We stayed in Galveston this summer. So glad to see it's doing better.

  • This is not just something that affected Galveston. I'm more than 90 miles inland and lost everything.

People need to realize that Houston needs help, too.

  • I still cry when I watch this video. Superb job.

  • Great job! Thanks for making this. I'm in Houston and had a flood claim, a roof claim, a car claim, no power for 15 days and had to boil water for the first few days afterwards. It was the worst storm I have been in in the last 30 years, very scarey but we "hunkered down" and made it through!

  • Well done...

  • My late husband and I lost a lot of personal items, our home was seriously damaged in the Katrina floodwaters. Many members of his family lost homes or suffered severe damage to homes, along the gulf coast. His family in the Houston area [Spring] was very lucky, they only suffered minor damage. This is where we stayed the 3 wks. after Katrina. The nightmare of Galveston and area, been there, done that.May God protect us from ever going through that same nightmare. Protect others from future I& K's

  • BRAVO! Sincerely, Michael Basham, Galveston, Island.

  • This is very good .. it is all so sad to see as we consider Galveston as our 2nd home.. Have been visiting there for the past 35 yrs. thanks for making this

  • Thank you for making this video. it is wonderful.

  • Was down in Galveston for the first day of Mardi Gra 2009 and the island is recovering very well. Galveston is like my second home. God Bless the people of Galveston!!!!

  • what kind of cat is that at [4.28] interesting.

  • One of the worses hurricanes I have ever been in my life. I haven't had electricity for two weeks and two days. And god bless Galveston,Texas,USA.

    Greetings from Houston,Tx.,USA.

  • Mbgorny, beautiful video.. I lost my home to the flood, as did most people I know, and though I cried during the entire video, it shows the hope and determination that people here in southeast Texas have. Galvestonians are truly the most resilient people around.. we will rebuild, and be better than before. God bless all who are suffering, and good luck.

  • jddesorm:

Thank you so much for the kind words. You, and all those who lost their homes, are in our thoughts and prayers.

  • I work with the Red Cross and was deployed for Hurricane Ike. I hope you don't mind, but I liked the video so much that I put a link to it on our Chapter website.

  • I am very flattered! Thank you.

  • I used to live in Seabrook, (Nasa Pkwy) Less than 5 minutes from the Hilton and NASA. Sad to see all of it gone, not really, but I'm sure glad I got my shit out when I did!

  • Where is Kanye and negativity. O wait he doesn't have an album out so why would he help out.

  • good video also sad
