I've watched the 1971 version attracted by the video clip of Metallica.

One week I was having a nightmare. The story is about the monstrosities that can be produced in a war. How much suffering happens in a war which the people who had no contact with the war have no idea.

I can see how this would be good live. I think it's incredibly naive to judge this -one-person show- when I haven't seen it. Maybe the haters down below this comment could grow up, and then they could go to local live performances and see the pureness, and empathy of a good actor. To be honest though, I have no desire to see this on film or TV.

No it's not.... just too dated and nothing like the book. I actually SAW this one and so I can share the TRUTH with people that this version is much more true to the book and just as powerful... the 1971 film is OK but I like this one much more... they are BOTH good, just different... I'm a "book" purist as opposed to a "movie" purist so I'm sure that enters into it for me.

This is theatrical. Not really a movie, and I actually prefer theatre acting over movie acting as it has the tendancy to be more artistic. It takes a lot of talent to be able to pull off a play/theatre work, but the original movie was indeed very good.

Miss Saigon fell out of production while I was a kid. I was in Iraq on my third deployment in 2008. Had no Idea of any new interest on the story of Johnny got his gun.
