Her 'distinct' voice was her greatest asset- love it or loathe it. I always admired the way she 'moulded' the voice to the notes of Puccini and above all Verdi. A terrific actress, but just as special musically and vocally.

A sensation! Even without seeing her wonderful acting........dare I suggest she has been (and I believe she still is) the greatest singing-actress of the last 40 years......the voice is remarkable, full of feeling. Sure, it is "distinct" and not to everybody's taste, but if you ever saw her live, there was surely nobody who could equal her performances.
