@SignoreBoy I agree. The promo screenshots of WB's CGI stuff always looks kinda worrying and static, then you see it in motion. CGI just looks fake, unless its done in a way like Toy Story, more realistic. But the fact that theyll have the red lanterns in Gl ill give it a try. The cgi looney toons look good though.
I never cared for Teen Titans (cartoon) so i dont know how i feel about this Beware of Batman being that style, and i liked all batman cartoons. Even BRave n Bold, though i didn't watch it much. Also NO JOKER! WTF
Sam Register is a toy marketer who has no business working in animation. He couldn't develop a character or tell a coherent story if his life depended on it. When he says, "and more importantly, the toys are selling like crazy," he isn't kidding. That really is his only priority. He compares Hal Jordan to Han Solo; he doesn't know the first thing about the creative side of the industry.
So... why don't you create a warner bros. animated network? Instead of pitching it, you've got a vast library. I mean, it's right there in your address. Talk about synergy. You've got all those characters between looney tones, merry melodies, DC, Hanna Barbera. Don't take a genius.
While I can't say others do not have the right to have enjoyed what Brave and the Bold did in regards to it's interpretation of The Batman and his Legacy, I still stand by my observation that it took a step back from the modern iconic image of The Batman, an image reinforced by several decades of often mature story-telling. While I'm sure BatB had it's highlights, to me it was still a poor choice in regards to direction and I'm not sad to see it go. I hope they never go down that road again.
The dark Batman was perfected with Batman TAS, and no-one will ever be able to top it
Any new series will be considered inferior to it, and therefore there is no point in trying to imitate it
Therefore, exploring different takes on the character are the only option there is if the franchise ever wishes to step out of it's own shadow and avoid stagnation (and an eventual demise)
@DrMlieko And, respectfully, I think you're quite wrong. While Batman: The Animated series helped redefine the narrative use of animated shows (it proved you could tell complex stories with complex characters and not have everything be black and white) I would not say it "Perfected" the Dark Image of The Batman, but it was a huge step in the right direction. Frankly, the forthcoming Batman: Year One is a far more superior step, as is his current portrayal in Young Justice.
@RogueScholarBlue Again, while anyone is free and well within their right to have enjoyed Brave and Bold, it was *not* the right direction for The Batman. And the risk of "Stagnation" had nothing to do with it. All Warner Bros. was attempting to do was appeal to a younger demographic as opposed to previous incarnations which, to them, might have gone over the heads of younger viewers. An assessment I think was wholly inaccurate.
@RogueScholarBlue There can be many interpretations of Batman that can achieve new ground that do not need be overly "cartoonish" with flamboyant portrayals. One need only look at the success of various one shots and reimaginings of Detective Comics over the last decade to highlight that one can make changes to the character(s) for the sake of a new narrative without sacrificing the core mature element of Batman and what he has become in the Modern Era. For the final time, I'm glad it's done.
That may well have been the purposes for some. However, it is clear to anyone that knows and appreciates the the long history of DC and the Silver Age of the comics that Brave and the Bold became more than that. It served as a stage to showcase many beloved and/or obscure characters that would have no place in a more serious show. And while not all of said characters were from the Silver Age, as Batmite stated in the final ep. it was "a love-letter to the Silver Age".
@TARDIShobbit As someone who appreciates the long History of DC, from their meager origins as N.A.P to their modern incarnation and all the various characters and universes they have helped introduce or reimagined over the last few decades, it is not, in point of fact, "Clear" to me. While it's anyone right to have enjoyed the series, I don't think they are superior in any capacity to those who, like myself, did not. For me, it was never a proper tribute to Batman and I'm relieved it's done.
@RogueScholarBlue you know what i didnt care for B&B but i watched it sometimes. But there was one episode i rememerb Bite-mite was on and he explained how people werent a fan of the series. I forget what he said but it made a lot of since and it made me respect the series a lot more.
It was just a silly fun cartoon. The only DC cartoon i didnt like was Teen Titans and thats my fav comic. Just dont care for anime at all.
@scootsie119 At this juncture I'm simply saying to each their own. To me, Batman done *right* is Year One and the recent Arkham game series, especially AC. However, others did like Brave and the Bold while I'm quite glad to see it get replaced. So... *shrugs*
if 2d is cheaper... why do CGI? Also i like the art style of the new batman show, but Alfred with guns? Batman does not like guns. I doubt he would work with a guy with guns, and Alfred can't fight with batman and be his butler. If people realized that bruce's butler was fighting crime, people would wonder if batman is bruce wayne.
@JustASpaceCowboy1 She still is in the outsiders, well since i last read it, im a few months behind in the comics. I havent read any of the new 52 yet. MY only complaint like i said in my comment is the anime style and no joker. But i love batman so ill still give it a try. But i do love how Theyre trying to incorporate their other heroes into shows.
Its funny though cuz ive seen some comic blogs and shows where they talk about "this new ninja girl katana" being his sidekick.
@scootsie119 What anime style anime not a artstyle it just a word for a japanese animation and anime has more then one artstyle just like US animation I mean hell Big O look like a Bruce Timm cartoon so are you tell me that Baccano looks like Fooly Cooly!?,as for me I love all types of animation I don't give a shit where it from.
@JustASpaceCowboy1 what about alfred having guns? i know he use a shot gun to like protect the batcave that one time in something i can't remember but does that not conflict on what batman stands for?
I love the idea of Alfred with guns and I just ate up the chibi Teen Titans! I'm really looking forward to this DC Nation launch! I hope all the DC Nation content will be downloadable to the iPod Touch /iPad, Sony PSVita and Nintendo 3DS becuz I don't have cable.
That Green Lantern show looks good but I'm more excited for Blue Beetle and Beware The Batman! I also like the new ThunderCats. It would be nice if Raven gets an animated TV Show.
CGI looks exactly like The Incredibles. Green Latern looks like shit wish it stayed 2d and make Sinestro the villain and not some rip off. Batman beens done to death do another hero. I bet they do Superman next. They are the king of milking their characters and not giving other chances.
@bonifidehustla There gonna do what works and what people want. Also not giving others chances, GLs never had a series before. JLU BatmanB&Bhad some great characters never seen before on TV, Smallville had the justice society (though it sucked). Also theyre giving shorts to a whole bunch of other characters. YOu should be happy about this cuz the big ratings for Batman, YJ, and GL will get big ratings for the shorts and maybe some will be full length. Also whos the ripoff?
@scootsie119 Yeah but the GL show looks like shit I wouldnt mind it being 2d. Not everything looks good in 3d. The enemy in the new GL is a rip off of Sinestro i think his name something called the Chaos ring. YJ the only show im loving right now from them. They put new characters and it worked out good. Its just i will not watch batman without Joker thats like Superman without Lex. So i hope it flops. Yeah JLU was good. I hated the drawing in BatmanBnB. I think dids would like Captain Marvel
My only criticism is Alfred having guns. Considering what happened to Bruce's parents, I think Alfred would respect his feelings towards gun and never have to use them around Bruce.
I wouldn't mind the CGI if they didn't fuck up how batman looks. I don't mind doing something diffrent with him, just don't make him look stupid, he has almost a triangle face for gods sakes.
While I'm not loving the CGI-choice for Batman, as long as it's a huge departure from Brave and the Bold (which spit on the Dark Legacy of Batman, frankly) I'm open to the concept. Also, Lauren Faust doing, basically, a DC-Animated series for young women/girls is an amazing idea given her talent and success with MLP before Hasbro canned her. Given what's happening in the new DC 52 right now, and the outcry towards some female heroes, a show like this would be the perfect damage control.
@RogueScholarBlue Batman's dark legacy? Batman wasn't original as dark as Heath Ledger and the Arkham Asylum games have made him out to be. You need to go look at the original Batman Comics from the sixties along with the Adam West Batman show. Anyway, I agree with you on Lauren Faust because some of the new DC 52 has really crapped on a woman's dignity. I love the new Supergirl comic but the sex stuff with Starfire & Catwoman is unforgivable.
@RoyalUsher True, I should amend that statement. I saw the show as spitting on the Dark Legacy we have become accustomed to in the modern era, which became common place even before the Nolan Films or the Games. While great I consider those apart from the Comics Batman. Just look at The Killing Joke, Year One, The Long Halloween, etc. The fact is, that show was damn near an animated version of the Adam West Batman, something that wasn't needed. As to Starfire/Catwoman? Ugh, agreed.
@RoyalUsher You got it half-right. He was dark in the early days from the 30s to the early 50s. He occasionally used guns and was more of a pulp hero. He then became very light in the later 50s and 60s, and slowly regressed in the 70s until he hit his darkest points in the 80s.
@RoyalUsher Batmans pretty much been dark since he first came out. They jsut had a campy era around the 60s, 70s. I personally like the TV show from that time, and B&B wasnt bad, but not my fav.
Also hes been dark again way before The Nolan movies and games. After the Series Dennis Oniel brought him back to his roots and later with Frank millers revamped him and made him darker.
@DrMlieko What? To say it's the second greatest Batman series ever, even though it only got three seasons, is a bold face falsehood, even if you really loved it. Also, to say it captured more of Batman's Legacy? Have you ever even read a Batman comic? Even back in '39 it wasn't anything like Brave and the Bold. Batman never had a freaking song and dance number. Brave and The Bold was Adam West's Batman, pure and simple. Even the show's creators admitted they were inspired by that series.
The Batman lasted 5 whole seasons, so according to your logic it should be a better series.
I did read a handful of Batman comics
The Killing Joke, Black and White, the Dark Knight Returns, Hush, Year One, Long Halloween, Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth, Batman & Son , Batman R.I.P., Batman and Robin, Batman Inc., and the new re-launched Batman and Batman & Robin.
@DrMlieko Batman TAS was 4 seasons the last season was when the revamped it. But still each season had a lot more episodes than any season of other batman shows.
Also is it your opinion that its teh second best? If so than thats fine, but to jsut call it teh second best period is a lil out there to be honest lol.
@DrMlieko oh ok. wasn't sure. i had four DVD sets, always assumed it was season 1-4 but just looked its volume 1-4 lol. everyone makes mistakes.
Also just curious as to why you call beyond not a proper batman series? Sure it was future, but it followed TAS and other DCU shows (JLU) timeline. Not saying you're wrong or anything, jw.
They spread TAS out over 4 box sets because at first it was pretty much a daily show (crazy I know) so they had a lot more episodes spread over that first season than any after that.
I see what your saying about Beyond. Though I still consider it a Batman series because Bruce Wayne will always be The Batman, even if he needs someone else like Terry to don his mantle because he himself can't do most of the legwork anymore.
@RogueScholarBlue You don't remember the 60's batman comics do you... yes in the 30's batman was actually quite serious, but there was a period of time where batman was silly. He received many new villains like, kite man, calender man, crazy quilt, polka dot man, etc. It was a period where batman was made to be very kid friendly. Holy Kids Stuff Batman!!
I'm also thinking about checking out Cacophony and Gates of Gotham
And of course Batman had no musical numbers - it's a comic, it has no sound.
However, music-themed characters are nothing new to the DC universe.
Oh, and there were plenty of stories in the past where Batman would dress-up like a mummy, play baseball with his enemies, put on a pastel-colored outfit, or fight monkeys in space.
This series was not afraid to remind people of this fact, there's more in it than angst
@andywattbulb Simple, every variation of the character has had them.
It makes sense to have this show not to have the spotlight constantly focused on him, but that doesn't mean they won't put him in the series eventually.
And the promotional art showed Professor Pyg as a villain, and that guy in generally much more disturbing/disturbed than the Joker (at least in the comics)
wasn't green lantern originally black?

@AllStarKase And Bruce was ok with that?
CaptainTooner 4 months ago
@CaptainTooner Actually Alfred is the only member of the Bat-family who is allowed to us guns because of his old age and lack in martial arts.
Dawnelldo2 4 months ago
@CaptainTooner i kinda agree, but alfred has used guns before and he was a spy.

The Cameraman should wide focus so we can see the damn screen. And cartoon network should look MORE at WB Animation and less at live action crap

Fire this asshole and bring back Batman Brave and the Bold
wesgriff1 5 months ago
I wouldn't mind the CGI if they didn't fuck up how batman looks. I don't mind doing something diffrent with him, just don't make him look stupid, he has almost a triangle face for gods sakes.
Bacbi 5 months ago
While I'm not loving the CGI-choice for Batman, as long as it's a huge departure from Brave and the Bold (which spit on the Dark Legacy of Batman, frankly) I'm open to the concept. Also, Lauren Faust doing, basically, a DC-Animated series for young women/girls is an amazing idea given her talent and success with MLP before Hasbro canned her. Given what's happening in the new DC 52 right now, and the outcry towards some female heroes, a show like this would be the perfect damage control.
RogueScholarBlue 5 months ago
@RogueScholarBlue Batman's dark legacy? Batman wasn't original as dark as Heath Ledger and the Arkham Asylum games have made him out to be. You need to go look at the original Batman Comics from the sixties along with the Adam West Batman show. Anyway, I agree with you on Lauren Faust because some of the new DC 52 has really crapped on a woman's dignity. I love the new Supergirl comic but the sex stuff with Starfire & Catwoman is unforgivable.
RoyalUsher 5 months ago
@RoyalUsher True, I should amend that statement. I saw the show as spitting on the Dark Legacy we have become accustomed to in the modern era, which became common place even before the Nolan Films or the Games. While great I consider those apart from the Comics Batman. Just look at The Killing Joke, Year One, The Long Halloween, etc. The fact is, that show was damn near an animated version of the Adam West Batman, something that wasn't needed. As to Starfire/Catwoman? Ugh, agreed.
RogueScholarBlue 5 months ago
@RoyalUsher You got it half-right. He was dark in the early days from the 30s to the early 50s. He occasionally used guns and was more of a pulp hero. He then became very light in the later 50s and 60s, and slowly regressed in the 70s until he hit his darkest points in the 80s.

@RoyalUsher "Original Batman comics from the sixties"? Why would you even bother to comment if you know nothing about the discussion?
thecapedcrusader 4 months ago
@RoyalUsher Batmans pretty much been dark since he first came out. They jsut had a campy era around the 60s, 70s. I personally like the TV show from that time, and B&B wasnt bad, but not my fav.
Also hes been dark again way before The Nolan movies and games. After the Series Dennis Oniel brought him back to his roots and later with Frank millers revamped him and made him darker.

Hey, Brave and the Bold was the second greatest Batman series ever created, don't hate it because it was different
In fact, it captured much more of Batman's legacy than any other series
DrMlieko 4 months ago
@DrMlieko What? To say it's the second greatest Batman series ever, even though it only got three seasons, is a bold face falsehood, even if you really loved it. Also, to say it captured more of Batman's Legacy? Have you ever even read a Batman comic? Even back in '39 it wasn't anything like Brave and the Bold. Batman never had a freaking song and dance number. Brave and The Bold was Adam West's Batman, pure and simple. Even the show's creators admitted they were inspired by that series.
RogueScholarBlue 4 months ago
@RogueScholarBlue
Batman TAS only lasted three seasons as well
The Batman lasted 5 whole seasons, so according to your logic it should be a better series.
Of course I don't count team books and spin-offs
DrMlieko 4 months ago
@DrMlieko Batman TAS was 4 seasons the last season was when the revamped it. But still each season had a lot more episodes than any season of other batman shows.
Also is it your opinion that its teh second best? If so than thats fine, but to jsut call it teh second best period is a lil out there to be honest lol.
my favs in order are
Batman TAS
Beyond
The Batman
B&B
The old 70s cartoons
scootsie119 4 months ago
@scootsie119
I don't consider Beyond a proper Batman series
Kinda like I don't consider Loonatics Unleashed a Looney Tunes show
And TAS had only 3 seasons
2 seasons with the old designs, and the re-designed season
My list of Batman cartoons would be:
1st TAS (3 seasons, 85 episodes)
2nd the Brave and the Bold (3 seasons, 65 episodes)
3rd The Batman (5 seasons, 65 episodes)
I didn't watch the older Batman cartoons (Superfriends don't count)
DrMlieko 4 months ago
@DrMlieko oh ok. wasn't sure. i had four DVD sets, always assumed it was season 1-4 but just looked its volume 1-4 lol. everyone makes mistakes.
Also just curious as to why you call beyond not a proper batman series? Sure it was future, but it followed TAS and other DCU shows (JLU) timeline. Not saying you're wrong or anything, jw.
scootsie119 4 months ago
@scootsie119
It was essentially a completely different character who just happened to be called Batman, and had Bruce Wayne as his mentor
It was basically about a kid in a high-tech suit
It was a good series, just not something I'd call Batman
DrMlieko 3 months ago
@scootsie119
They spread TAS out over 4 box sets because at first it was pretty much a daily show (crazy I know) so they had a lot more episodes spread over that first season than any after that.
TARDIShobbit 3 months ago
And that official ends my geeked-out diatribe for the day.
TARDIShobbit 3 months ago
@DrMlieko
I see what your saying about Beyond. Though I still consider it a Batman series because Bruce Wayne will always be The Batman, even if he needs someone else like Terry to don his mantle because he himself can't do most of the legwork anymore.
TARDIShobbit 3 months ago
@RogueScholarBlue You don't remember the 60's batman comics do you... yes in the 30's batman was actually quite serious, but there was a period of time where batman was silly. He received many new villains like, kite man, calender man, crazy quilt, polka dot man, etc. It was a period where batman was made to be very kid friendly. Holy Kids Stuff Batman!!
starguy13 4 months ago
@RogueScholarBlue
The series showed us the more goofy and light-hearted side of Batman's history, and demonstrated just why people loved it so much back in the day.
and aside from Batman, the series also showcased lots of DC's lesser known characters, or showed some lesser known aspects of them
Many of the episodes are packed full with references to comics new and old.
DrMlieko 4 months ago
@RogueScholarBlue
And one can't say that the series would scare away from the more dark aspects of Batman either
The episode Chill of the Night comes to mind.
And even the episodes less focused on the bat showed that they are not pulling their punches.
The Last Patrol, Menace of the Madniks, and the whole Starro saga dealt with some heavy stuff that would not be out of place in the old DCAU
All in all, the series was a love letter to everything obscure in Batman and DC that needs more love
DrMlieko 4 months ago
@DrMlieko
This series was not afraid to remind people of this fact, there's more in it than angst

no joker story? Guess I'll pass...How can there ever be too many joker stories?
andywattbulb 5 months ago
@andywattbulb Simple, every variation of the character has had them.
It makes sense to have this show not to have the spotlight constantly focused on him, but that doesn't mean they won't put him in the series eventually.
cashomnitrix 5 months ago
@andywattbulb
It's called over-exposure
And the promotional art showed Professor Pyg as a villain, and that guy in generally much more disturbing/disturbed than the Joker (at least in the comics)

LOL I loved the pot-shots at Green Lantern's film.
Maybe that will instill gusto into the studio to produce and script a better sequel to their lukewarm original.
