Checking the specs at Sony.co.uk, the sensor on the CS-700VEB is "1.0/2.88 Type Exmor R™ CMOS Sensor" and the CX570E is "1.0/3.91 Type Exmor R™ CMOS Sensor", so there appears to be difference in sensor size between the two models.
I hate the 700, had it for a month now, its going back to Amazon. Its so slow at everything. Other than looking good and having a long battery life, its a turd. Sorry Sony, you lost at the 560/700.
I want the BEST quality camcorder I can get for less then $1000 (that I could possibly get on eBay around or less than $500). I was originally going to purchase the HDR-PJ10 by Sony, but then I realized I don't need the projector...I really am just interested in video quality. I will usually have good lighting etc. I also need it to be reasonably simple to use (not the most techy person). Also, is it easy to upload and edit on iMovie'11 and Final Cut Pro? Any suggestions? Thank you :)!
hi, im dont speak english well, but i want to ask if the visibility of the kamera of this link /watch?v=Tm_ZS485nho&list=FLgkPm2JPnsj7PwE2HhU2Qcw&feature=mh_lolz is an effect or is the native recording of the camera? and what camera is? or similar... THANKS
I'm ordering mine later this week, I read somewhere on YouTube, to hold the button in for 2 sec's to "lock" each setting, but I have no way to confirm this as of yet, besides, if this is the case why isn't it in the manual? Try it out won't cost you anything, just remember it didn't come from moui ;o)
Compared the Canon HF g10 to the CX700 for a few weeks at home. No doubt the Sony has the best low light and stabilization. The Canon has better manual features. If you are a pixel peeper who spends Saturday night picking and pushing settings then buy the Canon. Sony CX560/700 have 26mm wide lens, which is 17% wider than the Canon's 30mm. Wider is better for Christmas, birthday parties and church events. Sony wins.
@barbershop22 Sony only wins if you want a complete auto camcorder. For those cheap filmmakers like me who want to squeeze as much bang for the buck to make short films, music videos, or documentaries with close-to-professional manual controls, the HF G10 is a better investment. Having said that, the CX700 is great for just shooting family stuff.
@CineastaProductions That is true, My Sony CX700 is the camera I keep at home for family recording. My "go" camera is a Panasonic TM90. Its a fantastic little camera that has 1080p and is less than $400 and has a 28mm wide lens! Amazing. It rocks, check it out
@vadim367 Sony wins having 60p, 26mm wide angle lens, and 96gb storage, but all other advantages goes to Canon. Slow motion is great, but if all you wanted was that, then get a GoPro Hero2
@vadim367 I mean "advantages" for full manual control, which the SonyCX700 lacks. I use these consumer cams for professional use and with the HF G10, I can get away with it, but not with the CX700. G10 has LANC, Waveform, 3.5 LCD screen - CX700 does not -- but these are moot points, since the CX700 has been discontinued after a year, but the G10 lives on. . .at least for now.
@CineastaProductions I agree with you: the full manual control it means a lot especially for professional use.
But how come Canon does not have 60fps?!?!
Even you don't want to make a sport slow motion, the 60fps can give an incomparable look to your movie. Take a look at that clip: .../watch?v=f4nuE42ODVE
And now tell me the truth: can you achieve something similar with Canon G10?
@vadim367 I'm sure Canon could implement 60p into these cams, but they probably want us to buy more products. They'll never make one that has everything. Oh well, gotta spend more money.
........... so iris keep manual while holding manual control button down go to shutter and see if it keeps the iris on manual too that might make it so they both can be manual but not adjust at the same time i think for adjusting both at the same time thats what the exposure is for. how ever its just one adjustment and the camera adjust the shutter and iris automatically in accordance with the exposure adjustment you are doing. give that a try but iu believe i am correct. let me know. thxs
OH i just realized something i think the reason the Exposure does not adjust for different light levels like the iris did is cause the Exposure adjust BOTH the iris and shutter speed at the same time i think thats the case because my HDR-SR11 does not give you the shutter or iris control just the exposure and i have noticed that a higher exposure can give you a lower shutter speed making it jumpy so to speak. so if you try to adjust iris then go to shutter NOT exposure................
You said that the 560 and the 700 are the same except for a few features. Does the 560 record in 5.1 sound? Does the 700 have the golf shot? trying to figure out if spending the extra $200 is worth the uprgaded model?
@MyTurnNow81 Yes, it has 5.1 surround sound and the golf shot. The only differences were the ones that I listed. This is not a PRO camera, it just has a lot of automatic features that are great for people who don't want to mess with manual controls. Get the 560. Use the extra $200 to buy a microphone or camera light or extra batteries.
@CineastaProductions But some of the extra features seems like they would be worth it. i particularly liked the peaking showing what was in focus, i have the HDR-SR11 and its a pain to know if its in focus or not on someone, particularly when filming a movie, after viewing the footage you can tell there are some times the focus is off just enough, and its annoying.
Oh and just FYI i think its smart they did not make the manual control click. Why? well, While filming and you want to adjust a setting while shooting are you gonna want something clicking in your audio?
would you happen to know which is better this sony hdr-cx700v or the Canon Vixia HF G10 ? i'm trying to find the best camcorder for indoor use. it seems that's were they all have trouble. thank-you
@petzlju If you can afford the extra cash, get the HF G10. I just bought the XA10, which has the same internals as the HF G10 and I love it. Great in low light, full manual control, much easier to operate than the Sony. I look at it this way: the CX700v is an expensive consumer camera, while the HF G10 is an affordable professional camera.
@CineastaProductions the CX700V has Double the quality over the HF G10 though. thats why i went with the Sony HDR-SR11 it had twice the video quality over all other consumer video cameras. even if you think the HF G10 is professional it is still classified as a Consumer product. Sony Approx. 6650K pixels(6.65M pixels) vs cannon Approx. 2.07-megapixels. Personally i think 6.6mp vs 2.07mp it makes it worth the difference way better Quality over features. Especially considering the cannon is +$
I would like to buy it but I have a few questions and hope you can answer them. first , does it comes with a option of photo shot and if so, how good do the pictures look I mean most of the cameras comes with the option but the pictures are taken in a 3.1 megapixels which I think is not that good can you tell if is worth buying the camera cause I think is over 1000 thanks
@armando501st CX700v takes around 12.3 megapixel JPEGs. In theory, it should be just as good as a point and shoot, BUT I never use a camcorder as a still camera. If you want good stills and video, get those hybrid still cameras that shoot video - like, Sony Alpha NEX-5 or NEX C3; Canon G12, Panasonic GH2, FZ100, GF3. A camcorder, even in this price range, will not give you the best of both worlds, but a hybrid stills camera will. AND, they are cheaper!!
Please! Answer, i need help. I have noticed with my cx700 that it sometimes have blurry edges on the video. if i watch full screen, its very noticeable and especially when image is shaking slightly. Is that a problem? or It's the way it should be because of wide 26mm angle lens? Because this camcoder is kinda expensive for me and i want it to be perfect, without any defects. thx.
@Gedifference I have not heard of that problem with this camera yet. I would first check with Sony, though. Usually one chip cameras have blur when zoomed in all the way or zoomed out all the way. I did not notice blur on my CX700. If the blurry edges bothers you, then you should return the camera. The CX700 is a bad value. I think it's overpriced and I was never happy with it.
nice review! dude, i dont know witch cam is better (just to hd videos) this sony hdr cx700v or the Canon 7d... do you see the hd videos that canon 7d record? is really amazing, and have a lot of lents to record videos like movies...
@rodrigomc2000 If you only want that cinematic look, don't care about audio, have the money to invest in expensive accessories, and the time to learn how to probably use a DSLR for video -- then get the 7D. I've spent thousands of dollars to get my 7D working like a video camera. I don't regret it, because I want some of my videos to look like movies too, but it was a big investment and it's sometimes more of a hassle than a blessing.
I really liked your hands on demo of the f@#cked up exposure system of this camera.Keep doing your reviews, they are useful for people wanting to buy these cameras. No matter how much these manufacturers THINK they know about videocameras, after all these years they still haven't made the perfect camera. It's simple...good optics, manual control for focus/iris/zoom+full auto, and keep the menus for the other crap.Oh yeah and some audio control.
@hanjohnson1 I'm not sure Sony makes one. You'll have to search for a 3rd party Sony adapter at your camera store or you'll have to buy a hot shoe bracket that attaches to the tripod mount.
i wonder why sony didn't include the vmc-uam1 usb cable for external hard drive which its very hard to find its equivalent cable unlike the unbranded hdmi mini is available in local store
@WAYCFs 560v is exactly the same as the 700v except 560v has 64GB of internal storage instead of 96GB, no peaking focus asset on 560v, and no electronic viewfinder on 560v. If you need more internal storage, peaking focus, or an EVF, then buy the 700v -- if you don't need any of that or you have no idea what peaking or an EVF is, then get the 560v.
5) How about the nightshot function? Is that the daylight use is still prohibited? And all settings are disabled? IR blocker needs to be taken out by unscrewing for hacking?
Hi! I don't know if I should buy it due to some concerns
1) 12.3 megapixels photo is not available when doing PS(28Mbps) or FX(24Mbps) mode videos, may I have chance to get any lower resolution photo when doing PS or FX videos?
2) There are different models as CX700, CX700V, CX700E, CX700VE. What are the differences?
3) Is 50p worse than 60p in quality? My region sells CX700E which provides 50p/i or 25p only
@hooterboy12345 An external mic is REQUIRED if you want to capture good voice audio or anything directional. I use a Sennheiser MKE 400 and Lav Mics. BUT, if you just want ambient sounds, nature, live music - then the built-in mic on the camera is pretty amazing. It's surround sound. Place this camera in the center of a concert, you'll get a better audio experience than a boom mic.
@CineastaProductions Do you think the MKE 400 is fine for basic interviews between two people? I might be at a trade show or someone's office doing a basic interview. I was thinking the MKE would be fine. what do you think? Thanks!
@dcretail MKE400 is okay if the environment is quiet and you can get the mic as close to the subject as possible. You can use a 3.5mm extension cable and mount the MKE400 on a boom stand. For a trade show or an outdoor setting - always use Lavs or handheld mic for best quality sound. But - the MKE400 is better than nothing, so if the choice is between the MKE and the camera mic, then get the MKE400 or the new Rode VideoMic Pro.
It's the same as the cx550 which I own (and I briefly had the 700) Once you set one thing via the ring, say shutter speed, then the rest default to auto. Except focus for some reason. So if you then set say exposure to manual, the shutter speed goes back to auto. One reason I got the nx5u was because the cx550 was too limited control wise. Page 42 from the manual... "if you set either one of the [Exposure, Iris or Shutter Speed] the settings of the other two items are cancelled."
@kitches1991 I think they are two different tools. A lot of people don't want to mess with interchangeable lenses or pay the extra $1k for a VG10. But the significant thing here is that both the VG10 & CX700V are both amazing cameras with their own silly limitations that prevent them from being completely awesome. Sony keeps teasing us.
@CineastaProductions Hi!! Im planning to buy a Sony HDR-CX115 or something like that.. Is it good? And Do you know how many this fps can shoot in?? 60fps would be fine can it do that? :) Reply as fast as you can ! ;) - Oscar
@LewiNkz Yup, I believe those entry level sonys shoot 60. Personally, I stick with Canon or Panasonic camcorders because they tend to offer manual control over most of their features, while all other consumer brands, Sony, JVC, Samsung, Flip, etc. are designed more for people who shoot on auto and don't want to mess with manual control. I find Sony cams to be the best for fully automatic shooting.
Hi, just bought a 560 tonight. It took a bit, but you can in fact keep each custom setting for IRIS/Shutter/Exposure, etc.
It's not very clear, but:
Hold down the center button inside the focus ring for 2 seconds. Select which setting you want to change, example- IRIS 2.8. Then hold it down for 2 more seconds and you should see "IRIS control set". Again hold the center button down for 2 seconds, select whichever other setting you want to set, and voila!
@mljtheshield OMG, is that what you have to do? Jezuz. What Sony engineer thought of that workflow? Well thank you very much for the tip. Too bad I already returned my CX700.
I recently bought the CX700 and a spare NP-FV70 battery. The NP-FV50 battery that comes with the camera works fine. After about two minutes of use, the NP-FV70 battery causes a 'for use with compatible battery only.' error message (C04:00) after which the camera shuts down. This happens repeatedly. I have tried two other identical batteries with the same result. Has anyone else encountered this problem?
I have the same problem, bought and returned 2 NP-FV70 batteries as keep giving the C:04:00 error.
Talked to Sony, they say the battery is either defective or a counterfeit. They offered to replace it, but felt better returning it to amazon. I am afraid that the camera will not accept any NP-FV70 battery.
I think the problem is the battery. Although the unusable batteries were both infoLITHIUM ActiForce batteries, they were apparently slightly older models. My brother-in-law bought a NP-FV100 battery that worked perfectly with my CX700.

@ZISProductions I wanted to adapt this camera for professional use. A lot of Pros would tell me, just get a Pro camera for Pro work, but I say, these new consumer cameras are getting so good, they CAN be used for anything. BUT, the one requirement is having full manual control. Now, if you don't need manual control for your videos, then get an earlier model Sony or something else for under $1k. The CX700 is too pricey for consumer use and not fully featured enough for pro use.
about the hot shoe and the adaptor: thanks for showing this. i was looking all over trying to get a view of it, and nowhere could i see it or read about its details (other than the fact it existed), and i just had a sneaky suspicion that has unfortunately been proven correct. why Sony would do that, i have no idea. duh! i want to use the new Rode VideoMic Pro. fantastic little mic. where did you get that adapter? does it have a brand name? thanks!
@Tr3N3ty You need to search for "Cold Shoe Adapter for Sony Type AIS (Active Interface Shoe) Hot Shoe" - Sony makes one, but it's super expensive. Shop at Adorama, B&H Photo, or Samy's Camera for a universal one. OR those Hong Kong eBay stores are sometimes a good deal.
I have an Insurance Claim payout for a lost camera. I was about to choose a Sony HXR-MC50. The Sony call centre guy suggested I wait for the CX700 to artrive here in NZ. The only thing I see as an advantage is the choice interlace instead of progressive scan only. Do you reckon I should run with the MC50 - I like the slightly larger size and the shotgun mike
DOES IT REPEATEDLY TURN ON AUTOBACKLIGHT & destroy / undercontrast the image like the shit sony cx550? and only allow you to take 3 dual photo captures while recording video in 17bpm mode?
@geogodley I don't know the answer to these questions, but I will say I got fed up with this camera and returned it. I'm switching to Panasonic and Canon until Sony gets their act together.
@CineastaProductions thanx man. i stick with sony because night visions good after dark & the others usually aren't any better, but we learn every day..
1. what in the hell they thought by placing the microphone and audiojacks? (they were well placed by the cx550ve i own. also the chacing jack ist.....u know not so well placed
2 is th screen size much smaller tha in the cx550ve? i looks like that.
3. does the video looks bether than on the cx550? But i think its very much the same. u just have iris 1,8 to 9,6 istead of 1,8-8,4
@Gumpa2 CX550 had a 3.5" display, the CX700 stepped backwards and has a 3" display. It's a noticeable difference. As far as image quality is concerned, yes, the CX700 video looks better than the older model. This is due to a higher bit rate for 60p and a 24p option that could have rivaled prosumer cameras if it weren't for the limited manual control features. The CX700 is also superior in low light, IMHO.
@CineastaProductions mmmh i jst bought the cx550 a year ago, so its not in my mid to buy a newe model again. If i buy my next camera, it should be more pfrofessionell!
I think sony should do a firmware update to fix the Aperture, Exposure & shutter speed to be controlled seperately to your setting if they want to sale a lot of hdr-cx700. I think canon HF g10 has more manual controls but both companies are trying to control the consumer what their products can do or cannot do. All questions raised here are good when you are paying $1300 for camera that is limited to simple things that it should do. I am thinking of DSLR but I dont want something that is big.
I like your review. Is it possible for you to compare this camera with canon hf g10 or hf s21? Which camera is good for home videos? or which camera has better manual controls. I am looking at purchasing a canon or sony but I am not sure which one is better. HDR-CX700 is very small which is good for me but manual controls are not very good. I called and found out that most of sony reps dont even what the camera can do or cannot do. Can one take still photos while taking video? It is a DUAL CA
@jkabuyah HFG10 is not out yet. I've owned a HFS200 - almost same as HFS21. Great camera. Full manual control, albeit buried in touch menus. I would get HFS21 over CX700. I've seen it sell under $1k. Trade offs: no wide angle lens, night vision, GPS, 60p, or usb cable built in -- other than that, HFS21 should be better investment than CX700. That is until the next latest and greatest gadget comes out.
Great review! Do you know if the mic in jack has phantom power? Where do you get a Sony hot shoe mic mount? I'd buy this camera as a back up, over the MC50U, but the mic is a deal breaker. I have an ECM-NV1 from my V1u sitting in a drawer.
@Kauzmic Not sure if mic jack has phantom power. Usually 3.5mm jacks don't have phantom.
You can purchase adapter at Adorama.com
For ECM-NV1, you'll need a BeachTek or JuicedLink adapter that connects XLR mics to 3.5mm camera jack. $120-$400 depending on the features of that audio converter. Keep in mind - you won't be able to use the CX700v's native 5.1 surround sound with most mics.
Really useful. To me, it´s this kind of shitty, toy-like controls what "force" us to buy pro-cameras, not the image quality itself. I´m just a regular user, and I do not want to make money out of my footage, but I´m forced to buy and lug around a huge camera if I want to have decent control over my settings, which is ridiculous in this day and age. If they keep doing this, more and more people will be moving on to Video-DSLRs, and with good reason. Meh!

@jackvancouver 60p is not AVCHD, this is true. But it is a legit AVC Level 4.2, and any half-decent application that claims support of AVC encoding, should handle it without problems. Sony Vegas, for example, even the older versions like 8.0, handles 1080p60 just fine. Shame on Apple for not going beyond AVCHD spec, and for forcing you to convert source footage into ProRes, although I've heard that with ClipWrap you do not have to re-compress. FCP should have ClipWrap functionality built in.
I complained about the restrictions with the manual settings on last years CX550V...
you do know that Sony does this on purpose to keep you from having the same manual control you get on there semi pro or professional models. ha ha ha
I already knew they would do this when the cameras were first announced and they revealed all the features. this is how they keep people buying the next latest and greatest models every year! but most people tend to disagree with me.
I agree. Sony is way worse than Canon or Panasonic for this sort of thing. Canon's new semi-pro XA10 offers oodles of controls, and goes for $2K. To get the same thing in a HD 1080p cam from Sony, you need to fork out
at least $3 - 4K. Same issue if you want to edit 60p footage natively. Sony Vegas Platinum = $149.00, no 60p. Sony Vegas Pro gets you 60p at $649.00!
Thanks for posting this review. And now I know which camcorders to avoid if I want good manual controls!
@kalail610 Thanks for the suggestion, but I tried that and it doesn't seem to work. The menu and dial options are linked & once you change one setting, the other two become automatic.

@CineastaProductions, I don't know how the image quality of G10 is better than CX700, but Canon G10 does not have 60 fps!!! Toooo BAD!!!!
With Sony's 60 fps, you can do the slow motion pretty descent quality.
With Canon G10 (XA10) you dont have the slow motion possibility...
So, Sony wins!

@CineastaProductions what do you mean by "all other advantages"?
Is it only separate settings for IRIS/Shutter/Exposure ?
Or there some other advantage?
What about image quality? Is it better in Canon or Sony?
Low light image is better in Canon or Sony?
About GoPro: I would buy ( probably ) GoPro Hero2, but it does not have zoom - it fixed at wide angle. For my application I need Slow Motion + Zoom.

MyTurnNow81 7 months ago
@MyTurnNow81 Yes, it has 5.1 surround sound and the golf shot. The only differences were the ones that I listed. This is not a PRO camera, it just has a lot of automatic features that are great for people who don't want to mess with manual controls. Get the 560. Use the extra $200 to buy a microphone or camera light or extra batteries.
CineastaProductions 7 months ago
@CineastaProductions But some of the extra features seems like they would be worth it. i particularly liked the peaking showing what was in focus, i have the HDR-SR11 and its a pain to know if its in focus or not on someone, particularly when filming a movie, after viewing the footage you can tell there are some times the focus is off just enough, and its annoying.
icewolf747s 6 months ago
Oh and just FYI i think its smart they did not make the manual control click. Why? well, While filming and you want to adjust a setting while shooting are you gonna want something clicking in your audio?
icewolf747s 6 months ago
hi i love your review.
would you happen to know which is better this sony hdr-cx700v or the Canon Vixia HF G10 ? i'm trying to find the best camcorder for indoor use. it seems that's were they all have trouble. thank-you
petzlju 7 months ago
@petzlju If you can afford the extra cash, get the HF G10. I just bought the XA10, which has the same internals as the HF G10 and I love it. Great in low light, full manual control, much easier to operate than the Sony. I look at it this way: the CX700v is an expensive consumer camera, while the HF G10 is an affordable professional camera.
CineastaProductions 7 months ago
@CineastaProductions the CX700V has Double the quality over the HF G10 though. thats why i went with the Sony HDR-SR11 it had twice the video quality over all other consumer video cameras. even if you think the HF G10 is professional it is still classified as a Consumer product. Sony Approx. 6650K pixels(6.65M pixels) vs cannon Approx. 2.07-megapixels. Personally i think 6.6mp vs 2.07mp it makes it worth the difference way better Quality over features. Especially considering the cannon is +$
icewolf747s 6 months ago
@icewolf747s Actually its 3x the quality! 2x3 = 6 not twice the quality
icewolf747s 6 months ago
I would like to buy it but I have a few questions and hope you can answer them. first , does it comes with a option of photo shot and if so, how good do the pictures look I mean most of the cameras comes with the option but the pictures are taken in a 3.1 megapixels which I think is not that good can you tell if is worth buying the camera cause I think is over 1000 thanks
armando501st 8 months ago
@armando501st CX700v takes around 12.3 megapixel JPEGs. In theory, it should be just as good as a point and shoot, BUT I never use a camcorder as a still camera. If you want good stills and video, get those hybrid still cameras that shoot video - like, Sony Alpha NEX-5 or NEX C3; Canon G12, Panasonic GH2, FZ100, GF3. A camcorder, even in this price range, will not give you the best of both worlds, but a hybrid stills camera will. AND, they are cheaper!!

@CineastaProductions
Please! Answer, i need help. I have noticed with my cx700 that it sometimes have blurry edges on the video. if i watch full screen, its very noticeable and especially when image is shaking slightly. Is that a problem? or It's the way it should be because of wide 26mm angle lens? Because this camcoder is kinda expensive for me and i want it to be perfect, without any defects. thx.
Gedifference 6 months ago
@Gedifference I have not heard of that problem with this camera yet. I would first check with Sony, though. Usually one chip cameras have blur when zoomed in all the way or zoomed out all the way. I did not notice blur on my CX700. If the blurry edges bothers you, then you should return the camera. The CX700 is a bad value. I think it's overpriced and I was never happy with it.

rodrigomc2000 8 months ago
@rodrigomc2000 If you only want that cinematic look, don't care about audio, have the money to invest in expensive accessories, and the time to learn how to probably use a DSLR for video -- then get the 7D. I've spent thousands of dollars to get my 7D working like a video camera. I don't regret it, because I want some of my videos to look like movies too, but it was a big investment and it's sometimes more of a hassle than a blessing.

1) Is there much difference between cx700v and cx560v?
2) Have cx560v SteadyShot and NightShot like cx700v?
3) does it works just as well to buy cx560v instead of cx700v?
WAYCFs 8 months ago
@WAYCFs 560v is exactly the same as the 700v except 560v has 64GB of internal storage instead of 96GB, no peaking focus asset on 560v, and no electronic viewfinder on 560v. If you need more internal storage, peaking focus, or an EVF, then buy the 700v -- if you don't need any of that or you have no idea what peaking or an EVF is, then get the 560v.

My region sells CX700E which provides 50p/i or 25p only
4) Is GPS function availble in CX700V only?
Thank you :)
dlon9 9 months ago
Would you recommend buying a external microphone for this camera? Or is it already good enough, because I need a camera thats good with sounds.
hooterboy12345 9 months ago
@hooterboy12345 An external mic is REQUIRED if you want to capture good voice audio or anything directional. I use a Sennheiser MKE 400 and Lav Mics. BUT, if you just want ambient sounds, nature, live music - then the built-in mic on the camera is pretty amazing. It's surround sound. Place this camera in the center of a concert, you'll get a better audio experience than a boom mic.
CineastaProductions 9 months ago
@CineastaProductions Do you think the MKE 400 is fine for basic interviews between two people? I might be at a trade show or someone's office doing a basic interview. I was thinking the MKE would be fine. what do you think? Thanks!
dcretail 8 months ago
@dcretail MKE400 is okay if the environment is quiet and you can get the mic as close to the subject as possible. You can use a 3.5mm extension cable and mount the MKE400 on a boom stand. For a trade show or an outdoor setting - always use Lavs or handheld mic for best quality sound. But - the MKE400 is better than nothing, so if the choice is between the MKE and the camera mic, then get the MKE400 or the new Rode VideoMic Pro.
CineastaProductions 8 months ago
@CineastaProductions great feedback. thanks so much. i bought a sony wireless mic. its simple, small and works well.
dcretail 7 months ago
It's the same as the cx550 which I own (and I briefly had the 700) Once you set one thing via the ring, say shutter speed, then the rest default to auto. Except focus for some reason. So if you then set say exposure to manual, the shutter speed goes back to auto. One reason I got the nx5u was because the cx550 was too limited control wise. Page 42 from the manual... "if you set either one of the [Exposure, Iris or Shutter Speed] the settings of the other two items are cancelled."

kitches1991 10 months ago
@kitches1991 I think they are two different tools. A lot of people don't want to mess with interchangeable lenses or pay the extra $1k for a VG10. But the significant thing here is that both the VG10 & CX700V are both amazing cameras with their own silly limitations that prevent them from being completely awesome. Sony keeps teasing us.

@CineastaProductions Hi!! Im planning to buy a Sony HDR-CX115 or something like that.. Is it good? And Do you know how many this fps can shoot in?? 60fps would be fine can it do that? :) Reply as fast as you can ! ;) - Oscar
LewiNkz 9 months ago
@LewiNkz Yup, I believe those entry level sonys shoot 60. Personally, I stick with Canon or Panasonic camcorders because they tend to offer manual control over most of their features, while all other consumer brands, Sony, JVC, Samsung, Flip, etc. are designed more for people who shoot on auto and don't want to mess with manual control. I find Sony cams to be the best for fully automatic shooting.
CineastaProductions 9 months ago
@CineastaProductions thanks alot! :]
LewiNkz 9 months ago
Hi, just bought a 560 tonight. It took a bit, but you can in fact keep each custom setting for IRIS/Shutter/Exposure, etc.
It's not very clear, but:
Hold down the center button inside the focus ring for 2 seconds. Select which setting you want to change, example- IRIS 2.8. Then hold it down for 2 more seconds and you should see "IRIS control set". Again hold the center button down for 2 seconds, select whichever other setting you want to set, and voila!
Good luck; it works fine for me.

@mljtheshield OMG, is that what you have to do? Jezuz. What Sony engineer thought of that workflow? Well thank you very much for the tip. Too bad I already returned my CX700.
CineastaProductions 9 months ago
I recently bought the CX700 and a spare NP-FV70 battery. The NP-FV50 battery that comes with the camera works fine. After about two minutes of use, the NP-FV70 battery causes a 'for use with compatible battery only.' error message (C04:00) after which the camera shuts down. This happens repeatedly. I have tried two other identical batteries with the same result. Has anyone else encountered this problem?
ubleakhouse 10 months ago
@ubleakhouse
Have you solved the battery problem ?
I have the same problem, bought and returned 2 NP-FV70 batteries as keep giving the C:04:00 error.
Talked to Sony, they say the battery is either defective or a counterfeit. They offered to replace it, but felt better returning it to amazon. I am afraid that the camera will not accept any NP-FV70 battery.
MegaMilko1 10 months ago
@MegaMilko1

CineastaProductions 10 months ago
about the hot shoe and the adaptor: thanks for showing this. i was looking all over trying to get a view of it, and nowhere could i see it or read about its details (other than the fact it existed), and i just had a sneaky suspicion that has unfortunately been proven correct. why Sony would do that, i have no idea. duh! i want to use the new Rode VideoMic Pro. fantastic little mic. where did you get that adapter? does it have a brand name? thanks!
Tr3N3ty 10 months ago

Do you reckon I should run with the MC50 - I like the slightly larger size and the shotgun mike

i have to say 3 things to this camera:
1. what in the hell they thought by placing the microphone and audiojacks? (they were well placed by the cx550ve i own. also the chacing jack ist.....u know not so well placed
2 is th screen size much smaller tha in the cx550ve? i looks like that.
3. does the video looks bether than on the cx550? But i think its very much the same. u just have iris 1,8 to 9,6 istead of 1,8-8,4
whats your opinion?
Gumpa2 11 months ago
@Gumpa2 CX550 had a 3.5" display, the CX700 stepped backwards and has a 3" display. It's a noticeable difference. As far as image quality is concerned, yes, the CX700 video looks better than the older model. This is due to a higher bit rate for 60p and a 24p option that could have rivaled prosumer cameras if it weren't for the limited manual control features. The CX700 is also superior in low light, IMHO.
CineastaProductions 10 months ago

I think sony should do a firmware update to fix the Aperture, Exposure & shutter speed to be controlled seperately to your setting if they want to sale a lot of hdr-cx700. I think canon HF g10 has more manual controls but both companies are trying to control the consumer what their products can do or cannot do. All questions raised here are good when you are paying $1300 for camera that is limited to simple things that it should do. I am thinking of DSLR but I dont want something that is big.
jkabuyah 11 months ago
I like your review. Is it possible for you to compare this camera with canon hf g10 or hf s21? Which camera is good for home videos? or which camera has better manual controls. I am looking at purchasing a canon or sony but I am not sure which one is better. HDR-CX700 is very small which is good for me but manual controls are not very good. I called and found out that most of sony reps dont even what the camera can do or cannot do. Can one take still photos while taking video? It is a DUAL CA
jkabuyah 11 months ago

Kauzmic 11 months ago

Meh!

60p does not import into FCP Log and Transfer because it is not the AVCHD standard. It is a completely new standard that FCP cannot read yet.
jackvancouver 11 months ago
@jackvancouver ah-ha! I should have researched that before I bought the camera. Thanks for the info.
CineastaProductions 11 months ago

TheOriginalHDChannel 11 months ago
@TheOriginalHDChannel
Pictor100 11 months ago
@Pictor100 What do you mean by "Sony Vegas Platinum - no 60p, and Sony Vegas Pro gets 60p"?
