Faure's Requiem moves me on a level that I didn't know existed. Got to be the best 'Requiem' composition of any composer anywhere. It's purity is unmatched.
im doing this with my college chamber choir... its so cool! i love it!!! its AMAZING! i love this kind of music especially the Messiah!!!! i did Messiah with my high school... we did it every year around christmas time.
By the way it was transcribed into other languages that are still spoken, like Greek. Through this method scholars were able to determine that in Classical Latin "v" had a "w" sound and all "c"s were hard, regardless of what followed it (e.g., an "e" or an "i".) Classical Latin pronunciations differ from the ecclesiastical Latin used in the Roman Catholic Church, for example. When singing pieces such as these the ecclesiastic pronunciation is used.
last year I had the amazing experience of playing this piece under the direction of Robert Page. Because I played first violin, I was tacit through the first two movements, and just got to soak up the music. Every time the chorus reached that swell around 4:15-4:40 I got goosebumps. It's so incredibly powerful. I would love to hear it played in a large cathedral.
i love this movement of the Requiem, also I like Sanctus.....i think my choir are preforming the two (perhaps more) in March sometime.....i love singing them, it's just so majestic, i feel amazing being able to do it, since i have a reason for singing it totally from the heart =]
It depends also on the composer which pronunciation is used. Bachs Missa in B Minor for example uses a german pronunciation. But as I know the "real" latin pronunciation was not too far away from italian.
The pronunciation of ecclesiastical Latin is generally similar to Italian pronunciation - e.g. 'c' pronounced as 'ch', 'v' pronounced as 'v' rather than 'w', and so on. As an avid fan of ancient Latin, it puts my teeth on edge to hear choirs pronouncing the 'v' in words, but what can you do? ;)
My high school chorus is preparing to sing Faure's Requiem for our All-County Chorus later this year. This is one of my favorite movements. It sounds wonderful!

Oh and NOT FAIR that they got to use music books. We memorized ours, and we are only High Schoolers!

We have sung this requiem too... it was very good to sing it. But i don't understand, why do they use the italian pronunciation... It's latin...

it's latin, but this is the way the "church latin" sounds. why church latin is similar to italian - it's easy to guess ;)
i'm afraid that only in Poland, Hungary, Germany and Austria pronounciation would be different. if i'm wrong - correct me ;)

no, everybody uses italian pronunciation in music, ti's something universal..

Only the lanuage of the operas is italian... But latin-language music is something other. (or should be something other...)
