  • Born on the same day as Margaret Thatcher. Ironic

  • Lenny ain't no Borscht Belt comic!

  • Big Fan, wish i could have been around back then!

  • @Relda999

don't worry, we're back to the same socio-political conditions - so ya are Blanche, ya are

  • I started learning about Lenny after reading Carlin's Last Words.

    Both were true icons.

They sure will be missed and remembered.

  • @sina126 Yup, me too. Damn, Carlin's book is such a great read. Can't believe I hadn't heard about Lenny Bruce before, this guy is hilarious! Great stuff indeed.

  • I am discovering Bruce for the first time. Free-thinkers champion!

Not taking any shit.Seeing through man's organized hypocrisy and stupidity. Too Fast, too intelligent and too free. And dead in the USA (Lennon,Morrisson,Zappa...etc.) Poets and free thinkers, DEAD in the land of the 'Free'.

    Food for thought.

  • @andreaprodan

"Too Fast, too intelligent and too free. And dead in the USA "

    That's too true. Well said.

  • @sina126

Have you read anything by Philip K Dick? I just recomend 'The Simulacra'. Enlightening!

    @andreaprodan

No, not before reading your comment.

I'm considering downloading his audio books from torrents ;) .

I did a quick research about him on Wikipedia and other places and he sounded pretty interesting.

Which one of his books do you recommend?

I always found it very pleasant to share my opinions with people who have read the same book as I did.

  • lenny was outspoken ahead of his time,,,i respect this brother so much,,,,i love his stand up about his legal battles,,,he wasn't afraid if he was he didn't let us see him,,he kept fighting,,,,a true icon

  • "When Freedom Bows To Fear" - This constant reminder :Interesting Quote, made long ago....

  • Name at birth was Leonard Alfred Schneider. His mother's maiden name was Kitchenberg.

  • I just discovered this man.

What really strikes me is when I looked at pictures, and watch the little of footage that there is from him. It is all black and white, cause they're old. The sound unclean.

He lived in a time that's a littler longer ago. Not so long, but still..

But then, I listen to what he says... and it's so strange, because it doesn't feel the same way as the pictures and the film footage. It's way ahead of them. It's way ahead of our time.

    The things that he says.

  • no doubt Hicks is great but Bruce was one of the first.

lenny bruce truly was a great foundation for all free minded comedians and people to speak and perform the way they wanted to.

he was convicted of word crimes in the land of free speech.

  • SCARY!!!

    My name is Bruce Leni!

  • I dig the Bop playing under this...he was the jazz comic.

  • gorge carlin got arrested at one of his performaces because when asked by a cop for his ID he claimed not to believe in government identification. carlin is lenny bruce's protoge in many many ways. who will carry the torch now?

  • Carlin and Bruce were both locked up at the same show and were in the same police car. That's when they first met.

  • @rohgenextfan I did not know that, thats very interesting... seems they had some good conversations about coverups.

  • @rohgenextfan That is not when they first met. Carlin met lenny bruce many years before when he first came to LA.

  • @bretthetroll

they did meet when they were arrested at Lenny's show - Carlin refused to show is ID to the cops who were not only arresting Lenny, but trying to find reasons to pull the licenses of the clubs that hired him - part of that was IDing the customers to charge the club for serving minors.

  • @nktrygg I know, but they already knew each other by then. George Carlin met him right at the beginning of his career, at, if my memory serves me right, a recording studio. I read it in carlins autobigraphy

  • @rohgenextfan Carlin said he never met Bruce.

  • Maher is all for taking on establishment but I don't think he has the gift for eloquence like the two former masters...

  • Maher is all for the establishment if it's the socialist dem establishment.

You are right though, he has no gift for eloquence.

  • hadn't seen this one. thanks for the love.

  • he helped awaken people to the labels brought on by the gov. which still goes on today. they are only words sent to us by our gov. cells within all gatherings to this day.

  • thanks for posting this. and btw, a lot of people did stand up for him, from all walks of life. sadly his own demons got the better of him. had he lived longer he would have seen the rest of society catch up with him, in some regards.

  • One thing i dont understand is why other comedians ofhis time never stood up for him.Bob Newheart, rickles etc. Abrilliant man died a sad and broke peron. Can you even imagine someone ettng arrested these day for his material. Comeadians now make him look like Bob hope. Just a thought

  • Just recently found Lenny a few days ago from hearing Carlin reference him and I'm amazed...He sounds like was WAY ahead of his time. Such an important person to not only comedians but ANYONE who LOVES free speach.

  • My house god.

    R.I.P

    Love/Sweden
