I think your mistake is that as a christian your view on God and your world view are linked.
You identify as a Christian which means your a theist.
When you ask someone what their religious view are your looking to compare your own world view with theirs. When someone says “I’m an atheist” they are explain that they do not follow a religion or hold a belief in god, but you translate it as a worldview (which it is not)
"atheists define themselves by what they don't believe in". atheism isn't a belief system you moron. it literally means 'without gods', so it is literally only a statement on the issue of sufficient evidence for god. i'm not an atheist when it comes to politics or morality because it doesn't make sense. i happen to have many beliefs but they are not based on something for which there is no evidence for. if i'm conservative politically it's got nothing to do with god. pea brained yank cunt
and does my last comment refer to anything you said in your video. a direct quote good enough for you you pea brained american asshole. idiots like you would get alienated here in a civilised country like england. there's a reason why the most advanced economic countries are predominantly atheist and the countries with most believers generally have very poor quality of life. you are no different to a poor with witch doctor in addis ababa
"they ignore what i say" and what of the ones who didnt like the ones that noted the big thing videos on freewill?
i do find it odd that you are unable to put forth why freewill exists at all. if god knows who you will marry before you marry them, then it is not really your choice but rather an illusion of choice.
i suggest you try watching thunderf00t's "Futurama logically PROVES God has no free will!"
The only reason we need a term "atheist" to describe the default position of lacking belief in imaginary things is because there's such a thing as a theist. If there would be no people with imaginary friends (theists), the term atheist would be unnecessary since everyone would be an atheist.
@niinja2 Because that's what the bloke in this video seems to be attacking, instead of simply atheism (of which you can only attack one thing. This isn't because most of its qualities are infallible, but because it only has one. Lack of belief in a deity).
Im a beliver, not in a Christian sense. However there is no way to either logically prove or disprove the existance of a God or Gods. I think that where faith comes into play.
This guy is a little too snarkly for my taste but at least he's seems to be much more intellectual than most born againers or fundementalists. Mostly he just seems to say Horay! for his particualr point of view. No one knows less than he who thinks he knows it all.
Well, then, let's talk about why defending atheism does make sense. See, I don't really care what people believe. I care about the effects of that belief. I'm not saying "I don't believe in x and neither should you", I'm saying "You believe in x, and I don't. X is causing you to spread hate, fear and ignorance. Which I think is bad. So here are some reasons why you shouldn't believe in x."
Consider I "lack belief in Aliens" "There is absolutely no evidence", There are too many aliens to believe in one' I'm just an alien sceptic to 1 more alien than u. "I was born an alien disbeliever" Alien belief is just wishful thinking & not based on reason." Do these silly arguments sound familar? So do I need to waste my life debating their nonexistence, set up websites inviting membership & donations, hold conventions, seek converts, advertise on buses- absolutely not!
They can't do better than that. It's hard to investigate something you don't believe in.. Atheism is not really good for the brain. To argue is to reason. You can't argue with someone who just has a disposition of 'not believing'. They don't adress questions because most of them fail to reckognize it. Without knowing it, they firmly believe in The Strawman..
@Husttada Again ,according to the new testament I can't believe unless your God causes me to be born of him.1john 5 :1 john 6:44 ,65 etc so the ball would be in his court and the burden of evidence in yours. Also if you say your god is out side of time and space then he exist no time and no where hence he doesn't exist. you believe something can't come from nothing but then thats how you say your god created everything.
But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 1 Corinthians 1:18
For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.
I imagine that most atheists would have a problem with your 'lack of belief' definition. Do you really not understand that the only position held by atheism is a belief that claims for the existence of god haven't met their burden of proof?
if you want to know what an atheist believes just ask them, I am an atheist, I believe in humanity, science, love, friendship, competition, knowledge, kindness, There are many things I beleive in, If you would rather have me say "I dont beleive in your God" than i can do that, saying the word atheist is just a faster way, Im not identifying myself by what I dont beleive in, Im responding to you, I believe in the things I listed above and more...... just not your God
all atheist know that there's a god. so it's not the lack of evidence, it's the hate they have towards god. so they try to reason with in themselves that is a lack of belief to feel right.
@Erap1muzik wow you really know how atheists think, and I just love your blanket statement; yea, all us atheists know that Brigantia is real, we just hate her for some odd reason, so we just say we lack belief in her...but you'll have to tell us what we have to gain by saying that though because you seem to know all atheists than the atheists themselves...
When your criticism amounts to nothing more than a semantic complaint, it hardly warrents a serious response. You don't like the term "atheist" because it seems like we define ourselves by what we don't believe? Fine. I don't require your approval of the label, nor am I married to the term. So what did you "actually say?" Not believing in the cosmic cupcake is "whacked," but you didn't bother to give an explanation as to why. "Atheists whine" and sure, you can cherry-pick all the stupidest comments. I can do the same from my videos.

Good vid. Atheism is either a lack of belief in gods (weak atheism) or an active disbelief in gods (strong atheism). The weak atheist says "I disbelieve gods because there is no evidence." The strong atheist says "there are no gods. If there were gods there would be evidence."
A man at work is informed that his house burned. He rushes home. He finds no evidence anywhere for a fire. Can this lack of evidence for a fire be seen as positive evidence that there was no fire? Yes indeed.

@Kwinnky Yeah, you accidentally spoke some truth there. And the Sword of the Spirit just showed you that the Word is true, you attested to it with your own mouth. Take advantage of that as a proof that atheists are always claiming they want, to believe and be saved! PRAISE JESUS!!!
I don't follow your logic, sir. Atheism is defined as a disbelief in a deity, not a lack of belief. Lack of belief implies a neutral position, where as belief or disbelief implies an active stance. Now when it comes to atheists being aggressive, I'm all for it, provided they're not mean-spirited. Some people don't get that that behavior is deplorable, however, most atheists that I've ever met like that were young and/or ignorant.
@Kwinnky: I didn't know the vid was about you personally. Wow, to think he made a vid just about little ole you. In all seriousness, they are not stereotypes. Every Christian I know has the same experience Matt spoke of. Me and a friend encountered just what he was describing just a few nights ago with some atheists, It is rare I don't get that from atheists. If you aren't like that then you need to understand you aren't the norm.
I responded to what you were saying and I am an atheist, but then again it seems that you seem to only hone in on easy targets Matt.
Though it is problematic to utilize positive evidence for a negative argument, atheists can define their position by what they don't believe in the same way that an indeterminist or Nihilist does. Not all atheists do define their position that way obviously, but the ones that do, should just be treated as strong agnostics.
Alright I guess I'll say something on this...Matt is really making no argument because 'atheists' themselves have already pointed it out years ago (turns out atheists are very critical of themselves...). Some have tried comming up with new words for atheists like 'Brights' 'Pearlists' etc, but these words always excluded someone in the atheist community. eg: 'Pearlist' would exclude some buddists and raelians...so they would just go back to 'atheists'
Atheism does mean a lack of belief in a god or gods, but atheism is still a position held that there is no god or gods. One tends to argue for one's position, which is why atheists defend their position. It's really that simple.
What's the visually symbolic purpose in this video? Is it "taking out the trash" of atheists' foolishness, or "I'm busy - I've got better things to do" than to waste time dealing with comments that aren't on topic?
No one is impressed by your cherry-picked examples. I responded to your diatribe & U did not respond. This reminds me of when U were lying about all the atheists using foul language on your comments so U had to censor them. In reality, all U wanted to do was drive traffic to your own site. Also, make a whinning video about whinning with a fake yard work set-up doesn't exactly baptize U in credibility. Once again, we refute your poor arguments for all to see so that U will not have power over us.
SOME PEOPLE TRUST IN GOD AND GO BY WHAT HIS WORD TELLS US..... and some people push the devils doctrine and dont even know it! all i know is; theres only 2 teams in this battle. GOOD and evil which is GOD and satain.........................PICK UR TEAM!..................i know im on a winning team! "For there is one GOD, and one Mediator between GOD and men, Himself man, Christ Jesus." 1Timothy 2:5.
I don't see what's "wacked" about it. In a world where the vast majority of people believe in a deity, argue a TON for it, and believe some people ought to suffer because a being told them to... yes, for these reasons and more is one justified in identifying oneself as a non-theist or atheist. If being a Dodgers fan required one to believe playing baseball was required to not suffer forever in a torture chamber, then it wouldn't be so "wacked" to refer to A PART of one's beliefs as non-Dodger.
Good stuff

@ironcross66106 onceforgivennowfree is a stark-raving Christian fundamentalist. I think that post was a poor attempt at sarcasm.

LOL...good on you Matt :D

Atheism does mean a lack of belief in a god or gods, but atheism is still a position held that there is no god or gods. One tends to argue for one's position, which is why atheists defend their position. It's really that simple.

@PhyllisSophical Probably the best Atheistic response here.

Power over us? That's quite a statement. Follow this rule whole your life an you'll be an inspiration for all of us. God forbid...

If being a Dodgers fan required one to believe playing baseball was required to not suffer forever in a torture chamber, then it wouldn't be so "wacked" to refer to A PART of one's beliefs as non-Dodger.

what about responding to the strongest arguments people mentioned on the video? One was mine. Jerk!
