  • flaming lips have been going for like 40 years and i fucking love them - one of the best live bands ive ever seen.

  • the first 20 seconds wasnt very good..!

    the rest is class...

  • Man. I love The Flaming Lips and this song, but I'm not digging the video quite as much. The robots look crazy wicked evil... not. Was there a point somewhere I missed?

  • This video is an insult to the music.

  • wanna b ...hipster music

  • The first time I heard this song I was expecting an epic video to follow. I envisioned something similar to future Trunks when he was fighting androids with Gohan in the DBZ movie 'The History of Trunks'

    Alas, how dissapointed I was.

  • no offense... but you're the one comparing "epic" to dbz... you should be ashamed of yourself. XD

    wait... are you 12?

I sure hope so, otherwise you are one sad sad sad little teenager.

  • I don't quite understand how one equates liking DBZ to being twelve years old, nor comparing similarities between the song and the series and drawing some loose ideas on how the video could have been A LOT better.

I'm 19, although this is highly irrelivant, and grew up liking DBZ and still do although I don't watch it any more. I knows lots of people that appreciate the animation just as much as me and would agree an animated video would have been much better.

So no, I am not ashamed.

  • the tone of the video doesn't suit dbz. try looking up the vid that goes to this song with FLCL. its amazing.

I'm the same as you. grew up when GOOD shows were on TV... before american dubs were ruining anime left and right. and DBZ was one of the biggies growing up, but I've got some years on you. heh

  • i'm 23 and also watched it through my teen years. haven't seen it in a lot of years, not sure if it's even still aired in england.

    no shame here

  • dude you must be one of the biggest geek i ever saw lol .. dont mix chinese DBZ animation with flaming lips!

  • lol great song. i'm not sure if anyone else noticed this about the lips, but throughout each video since they first started up, you can see the bassist gradually getting blader lol =)

  • who was de idiot who made this video? do we all hae to wait 20 fckin seconds for the video to start? god, grow up

  • what a brilliant song

  • a guy at my camp adk camp he sung this his name was nick yost

ps this is reed lancaster i love adk

  • i believe this song is about Wayne Coyne's friend Yoshimi battling cancer (the pink robots)... thus the gorging on healthy food, etc...

  • Ah! Now, that fits! I've always wondered whether this song was about anything or just pure fantasy. But it fits, of course it does! (Except perhaps the fact that the singer is suggesting the cancer's going to get him somehow, and it's her own cancer she's fighting).

  • I would have thought you were crazy, but with the emphasis on death in this album it's possible that the song is about cancer. Death as a tragedy is a big thing for him, and I don't think the compensation of new births wins the day, per "Ambulance Driver". But why go on?

  • She's not a robot killer. When she promises, you believe. Those robots that come in between us have destroyed all that we have, including respect for each other. But I still believe that she can beat them; she needs to... to defend the city.

  • Could someone plz tell me the meaning of this song??

  • love this song

  • i am a metal head and even i will admit this song kicks some ass

  • yeh me 2 lol

great song. I enjoy songs and bands like these, but then also love me some Pantera, Maiden, and Metallica

  • they rock, 1 of the best groups of the last years

  • they rock, 1 of the best groups of the last years

  • He meant interpret, and he has a nice point, no need to attack him.

  • Because he wasn't here and I was.. It's not a very complicated thing to grasp.

  • you're a dick.

  • a dick.

  • wow...good one dude

  • thank you, dude.

  • thats the beauty w the Lips. they make music for YOU to interpurt. for everyone to interpurt.. the music is magic and magic is love <3

  • I love this song!!!

  • this band Is great... I saw them last night in Mexico City, too much good vibe flowing from them!

  • k wena rolita!!!

  • lol i thought it's bout a girl battling with an eating disorder xD evil robots -->evil disordered thoughts -so i am completeley wrong :D don't hate ^^

she has to discipline her body 'Cause she knows that it's demanding

    Those evil-natured robots

    they're programmed to destroy us

she's gotta be strong to fight them

so she's taking lots of vitamins

'Cause she knows that it'd be tragic if those evil robots win I know she can beat them to defeat those evil machines

  • I think it's cool to interpret the song in any way that you find most meaningful. Literal is fine, but even Wayne Coyne's words about it only represent one interpretation, you aren't forced to interpret a song the same way the artist does.

  • oh man, it would be awesome to see flaming lips live. their live shows sound so cool...

  • hell yea dude i saw them at 10k lakes and it was nuts

  • Seeing them for the first time, in two days. Should I be expecting something totally kick ass?

  • its sick when he first comes out in this like clear ball ontop of the audience where are u seeing them

  • Nope. It really is just about a chick fighting robots. This is the kind of stuff this band does. It's different and totally awesome. Let's not read too much into it. lol

  • I always thought the song is about a man (the singer/ narrator) who loves a woman (Yoshimi) who is mentally ill. She thinks robots are coming to attack, and she wants to protect the man (she exercises to become strong to defeat the 'robots'). He believes in her (he knows she is kind of crazy), and she tries to tell other people but they just don't believe her. He sticks by her because he loves her....

  • Does anyone know where I can find this song in mp3 format? I really like it!

  • itunes

I dare you to pay for it...

  • why would you pay for somthing signed to warner bros?

  • Download it with Ares as i did it

  • Yoshimi (who) Battles the Pink Robots, the meaning is unclear, but Yoshimi is their good friend, drummer Yoshimi P-We from japanese avant-garde punk band Boredoms, you may recall they were the first headliners for the innagural Lollapalooza. on that tour, she became fast friends with the flaming lips and their friendship evolved into her being the titular character and session player on this LP. she is also the frontwoman for OOIOO another japanese avant-garde punk band.

  • Maybe yoshimi is a therapist and the robots are his personal demons... Just a thought ^_^

  • I always thought this song was about a person having these negative/evil voices in their head (the robots), while s/he tries to fight them (Yoshimi). You know, those annoying voices that are so negative and pessimistic ^_^ The ones which you would rather lose.

"They don't believe me." (other people don't believe that the person really has those voices)

"You won't let those robots defeat me." (Yoshimi - representing the strong will of the person - fighting the voices.)

    It's a nice song.

  • no, it's about battling evil robots before they destroy everything.

  • Whatever the meaning, the song is great!! GO see 'em live, if you haven't already...You're guaranteed a quality gig!

  • fuck you why dont you make songs with real fuckin meanings... you cant so shut the fuck up

  • nope!

  • hey you fucking dipshit, this is a very deep good song your just a dumbfuck who cant realize what its about. that dumb as writer youre talkinga bouts faughter died, of leukimia, this is about her fighting it.

shes yoshimi, and the pink robots are cancer cell. you dumb shit.

  • you sayin that to me or the fagit?

  • the faggot.

  • its spelled faggot

  • i like faggit better.

  • yo bro it's actually not metaphorical. The song before this on the album is about a robot who falls inlove with yoshimi, and yoshimi battles the pink robots part 2 is about yoshimi battling and killing the robot that she doesnt know loves her. it says so on the flaming lips site

  • well

    I'm sorry, excuse me.

was that meant to be insulting?

    I don't think so.

    Lay off buddy

I'm just saying, it'd still be an amazing song if it was exactly what it says

    jesus.

taking your stressed out, screwed up life out on some person over the internet.

    real classy.

  • or

    orrrr

it COULD be about a chick named Yoshimi battling robots

    I mean look at Hypnotist

This dude could just be a major stoner I mean that video I swear could cause a seizure

    hahahah

    also

maybe he has Asians cuz Yoshimi is an ASIAN NAME

god people it's called common sense.

    use it!

  • I think i could fall in love with you. I mean, common sense, who has that anymore?

  • apparently no one.

    hahah

and I even get chewed out for putting out my opinion

jesus people need some major help if they yell at someone over the internet. hahahah

    lame sauce, mannn.

  • Asian fetish much

  • love this song

  • Thank You.

  • i think this song is about fighting robots!

  • if this song is in fact about cancer and gives people fighting it some hope,so be it.what the FUCK is wrong with you assholes? let the listener decide what the song means to them.

  • there was a techno person named yoshimi something-or-another who worked with them on the pink robots album; the song is roughly about this person and about 10,000 other things only the band knows about. wiki it.

definitely not anything to do with cancer. you people dig too deep searching for the meaning of a bloody song, why don't you just shut the f--- up and listen to the music?

  • why the 21 seconds of nothing at the beginning??

  • she is a red blood cell(japanese flag t-shirt)

  • nice song

  • They weren't really great in Tivoli in Denmark

They were out of shape i guess

  • lead singer digs Asian chics

  • so does woody allen

  • zing!

  • Whamy!

  • i'm just home from the belfast gig... oh my god!!! best concert i've ever been to barr none!!!!

  • saw them live @ wayoutwest, one of the best shows ive ever seen, fucking insane :D

  • i love this fooking group so much..this album has bin played over and over again.. amazing group!!! *****

  • i know, and in that way, it is very sad.

  • xian123123 i'm not sure how true that because how could she be working for the city? and the singer says "but you won't let those robots eat me" does he have cancer as well?

  • no man, it sounds like somebody lied about the cancer thing. this song might mean something other than a girl named yoshimi that is responsible for defeating some evil pink robots and other things on that subject. why must people try to throw lies and other meanings onto a perfectly good song? if it is about cancer that would be suprising. and it would make no sense, the robot thing does, its just a song, for entertainment. plus these dudes trip out alot.

  • Flaming Lips totally ruled at Camp Bestival. Most magic entrance I have witnessed in a long time...ever. Have lost my voice from singing along and shouting YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH!!

  • They were cool at the LOVEBOXWEEKENDER Festival @ Victoria Park on the 20th July 2008

  • Just saw these at Bestival dreamy lovely lovely!

  • you know we could learn from this hero yoshimi, i dont see our lazy butts saving the world from pink robots

mayb when we finish we can get our own flaming lips songs

  • I love this song:D

You know.. In a way it's sad.. or is it just me?!

  • definitely sad in a way.

  • Best stage presence.

    Flaming Lips Rule!!!!!!!!!!!!11

  • just been attacked by PINK ROBOT and some FROGS wayne, yoshimi, help me wales needs ya

  • the first ten seconds made me cry.. But other than that, im blazed.

  • I saw these guys in Des Moines on the 4th of July...Before this song he talked about how this song was meant to be silly nonsense, but that it now reminds him of a certain person.

  • she's a black belt in karate!!!

  • hey! hey!

  • Interesting. I have the same name. lol

  • i wonder if those are the same spot-lights they use in concerts

  • great video

  • Again, great song but rubbish video. Why doesn't the video reflect the album art work.. disappointing.

  • the only reason i can be proud to currently live in Oklahoma.

  • Google and take a look:

At ("DoortoYourImagination") ... a new children's poetry book!

  • If you're just checking out random videos downloading individual tracks from this band on itunes or what have you...stop immediately and listen to this entire album. it's incredible.

  • Interesting how this song could´ve been the main theme for I Robot the movie, starring Will Smith. The pink robots and everything...

  • noooo way

  • i love it as it's so original

  • no the name came from a young girl who had cancer pink robots = cancer not a drummer

  • Ohhhh we all love it! One of the greatest albums ever

  • 2years ago i came across this band and theyve bin goin years.. i can safely say that i havnt heard another more unique albumn in all my life... Truly Truly one of the most magnetic songs ive had the honor of tuning into!!!!!! :):):):)

  • Yoshimi P-We is a Japanese altenative rock drummer. She contributed on the album, and it's where the name came from.

  • your wrong

  • You are right. They talk about it on their website. But the other people are partly right too because "it's summertime" was written as a sort of dedication to a girl they knew who died, it was to her sisters to try to tell them to look at the brightness in life instead of sinking into despair. But as Wayne has said the album is not a concept album and each song is individual and therefore can have its own inspiration. So u r right about this song, but they arent wrong either.

  • it's controversial as to how the name came about. you can wikipedia it if you want, names a few theories.

  • bought the album about a month ago, ive never stopped playing it. dont know why i hadnt known of them before but glad i do now.

  • love it!! crazy video too

  • This is he ultimate song i bet it has no meaning its just the ultimate ridiculous song

  • 43:09

  • Love the video Love the Song Great Lyrics very touching :D

  • Love the video Love the Song Great Lyrics very touching :D

  • em well from what i've heard is that this girl Yoshimi was a big fan of the lips. And to be honest i think the pink robots are meant to represent cancer or some form of illness anyways. I think she died a while after the song was released. At least that's what i heard from the guy that introduced me to em. I'm too lazy to check the facts. But anyhow, that's what i think about when i hear this song.

  • crazy! thanks, I thought it was just randomly creative

  • no redpat11, no.

  • amoo esta cancioon!!

    (L)(L)

  • me likey!!! ridiculous and a bit sad

  • lips are my babies daddy! no not really but my kids would be like thier songs i am sure.

  • Oh my, I love this song! <333

  • YAY LIPS!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Long live the Lips.

  • this song would go so well with the transformer film i think i may do a video if i can get hold of the clips i need and the sound track of this vid with out the crowd in the back ground but this song is great rock on muhahahahaha

  • bahahahah

  • lol he wasn't even rly making fun of the song..

  • It's clearly about a girl called Yoshimi with a blackbelt in karate, and her attempt to fight pink robots. People don't believe she can do it but Wayne has faith :)

  • Amen :)

  • can anyone find the piano version of this?

  • la neta una de las rolas mas chingonas del mundo de la musica

  • love the song weird video though

  • eny one knonw what Yoshimi means????

  • -A japanese girl's name is all I know.

  • Like that other guy said it's a japanese girl's name. Although the song itself is an analogy for women's struggles to overcome in basically any workforce. At least that's what it seems to be.

  • Actually I think it's ment to be about a woman (Yoshime) fighting an illness

  • excellent stuff!!

    good job

    thanks for posting it LexisBarrio
