The sounds this bird makes, along with its relaxed body language (eyes closing, getting itself comfy, making whistling noises) would not happen if it was in any way trapped. If trapped, it would make high pitched noise and continuously trying to move and fly away....

how do you get a bugie to be sweet like that? All the ones I ever owned were wild, as in, if I COULD get them out of the cage, they always flew to the highest place they could get to and wouldn't come down for anything. If I did manage to catch one, they struggled and freaked out and one bit me.

I would love to have another set of budgies, but I'd like them to be tame. I tamed my cockatiels down, so how do I do it with a budgie?

@FiestyCat86 Never ever buy a bugie from a pet shop, those are basically farmed birds with on human interaction at all. I've always gotten my birds from breeders or adopted. Trying to tame a farmed bird is almost impossible, look for babies that are hand raised.

@TheBardicDruid mine were bought from a breeder that didn't want them anymore, she had to many and didn't have the time to tame them down. She said she had them from eggs, and that at one time they were tame, but after weening she just put them in a big cage and let em do their own thing.

I don't buy from pet stores, and my 'tiels, were always super sweet (outside of a couple males that went through one hellish puberty) So if I get them tamed from egg, they should be like this?

@FiestyCat86 That's what farmed birds are, just tossed in a cage and left, you want to look for a hand fed like your 'tiels. If they don't have any human touch when hatched they usually never really get tame. You can do it but it takes a lot of time and patience.

@TheBardicDruid Oh I know it can be done with tiels, I had to tame down my twelve year old male, (he liked to draw blood and bite and not let go.) I've just never been able to do it with a budgie.

The woman I bought the Budgies from spent alot of time with her chicks that she was selling full price, but my little lutino and pied were not "up to her breeding standard" and she couldn't sell them for her full price, so she kinda just didn't want to put the effort in. Thank for the suggestions!!
