I can understand both sides. The interview wasn't puff but it's the same one we've heard before. I wanted to hear Garth talk about accountability, players "underperforming" (maybe its the best they'll be). How the word "confidence" can be used in any Islanders interview is head-scratching. Not to mention yet again an NYI interview talking about a junior player NOT on the team and that have NO bearing on the rest of the season. "Garth, why should the 4,000 people that go to games to keep going?"
Some people are retarded and don't know how talk shows work. You can't just rip on your guests because GMs talk to each other, coaches talk to each other, and players talk to each other. Eventually, you won't be able to book any guests, period.
@njd2389 Being obsessed with access is precisely the _problem_ with modern journalism. If journalists decline to ask tough questions because they're worried they'll lose access, then they just become another PR agency for the teams/politicians they cover. There's obviously a middle ground between softballing and "ripping" someone. You can ask tough questions in a respectful way.
These guys are right that nobody cares about the Isles (or hockey in general), but it would've been totally legitimate to ask Garth about using buyouts to reach the cap floor, how Wang doesn't run the team like a professional sports organization...
It's really weak if your best argument is "at least we care about hockey." If I wanted to know "what Snow thought," I'd just read the press release.
So does LaGreca think Snow shouldn't be asked "what the fruit is up with this franchise!" What, only Wang is privy to that kind of "inside info"? It's not his job to reem Garth Snow but he should feel obligated to Islanders listening to get some direction out of this guy. Seems like the organization thinks you just get a coach who implements a 'system' and get some dregs of the league and a few draft picks to work hard and that should be enough? This is a NY market and they operate it like KC!!!
ny news and radio never give hockey the time of day. especially the fan. even when the devils and rangers are good, they dont get the time of day. hockey is just unfortunately on the backbunner.
Who cares that no one else would mention us? That's no excuse for a cheeseball interview. Don't do the interview if you aren't going to try to find out anything. La Greca seems to think his only job is to entertain. Well, I don't watch the show to be entertained, I watch to find out whats going on in the NHL. since that's his attitude, I'm not going to watch anymore.
As an avid Islander fan La Greca is absolutely correct. You think Mike Francesca is going to even mention us? The Islanders can make the playoffs and go to the cup finals.. NY wont care.. we haven't earned that respect. New York loves winners... They dont care about last place teams. Its sad to swallow but the minute you understand that life will be better
@stealthmeth Yeah Mike reached his Islander quota for the year. He really wasnt up to date with Isles history but oh well.. Also I didn't reject Botta's credentials
@supereggz1 I thin you contradicted yourself. You said they could go to the cup and NY wont care, but you also said they don't care because they're not winning.
@trulysarcastic - They haven't earned that respect yet for people to care regardless. They can go to the cup finals but in June its baseball season and it will be all Yankees and Mets on the back page. Sorry but its the truth!
@supereggz1 Thats why the playoffs should be shortened to a best of 5 and then best of 7 for the finals. There's too much over lapping of the hockey and baseball season. I rarely watch the Stanley Cup finals no mater who is in it because I'm watching baseball
@DoneEstaLaSalsa - I agree with you 100%.. Right now we should be 3 games in THE 2ND ROUND OF THE NHL PLAYOFFS!!! Instead we have 4 games left of the season.. its completely stupid and once the 1st round ends the NBA playoffs begin and that takes more attention away from the sport.
XM??? Are idiots still paying to listen to the radio??

I agree that that ripping on the radio host isn't the right reaction but...
Calm down, La Greca. It's just a tweet.
