you are obviously not familiar with the dance or the choreography...there aren't any pirouettes in this particular bit.

This dancer is the first I've seen to defy gravity with this routine and to really make the choreography coherent; most dancers tend to look awkward doing this.

In response to the last comment, I have to strongly recommend that any students out there don't start badgering their teachers to go on pointe at the age of 8 or 9 if they are only dancing once or twice a week. No offence to your teacher, but the body is just not ready for it at that age and it is very dangerous.

A classmate of mine was put on pointe too early, danced for a few years and by the time she was 20 her feet were crippled and there is nothing that can be done. The damage doesn't show up right away. I have never seen this variation danced to such a slow tempo. I would work on your running. In the beginning, it looks like you are clomping around instead of doing a pointed toe brush run. Also, if you lift your knee more in the attitude turn it you will have more control over your speed and won't fall out of it as easily. Beautiful lines!

And for anyone who is wondering, it is not unusual for full time ballet students to start pointe work at 11 years old assuming that there is sufficient technique and strength in the ankles. Many of my girls only dance twice a week and they normally start pointe work at 13 or 14 if they are ready.

you can start at 15 16... i started at 13 and at 14 i was already on pointe (my teacher told me so, don't tell me i'm going to hurt myself). The only thing, you have to be sure you are strong enough. And i know people who have started at 24..!! So really, if you like ballet don't let anyone tell you you can't.
