Here,re my votes also, from Spain: 1 point to Switzerland, 2 for Luxembourg, 3 points to The Netherlands, 4 for Spain, 5 points Sweden, 6 points Ireland, 7 points to Belgium, 8 points to Italy, 10 points for Portugal, and finally: United Kingdom... 12 points!!!.
My Votes: 1: Austria 2: Germany 3: The Netherlands 4: Portugal 5: Switzerland 6: Denmark 7: Cyprus 8: Norway 10: Ireland 12: Italy This year was a poor year and I only knew the Italian entry when i watched this. Still, it made it to my 12 points. If you could go back in time, would you go back to a certain year to change the votes?
Very poor after a great year in 1983. Sweden - not bad at all, dubious award of being the best of a bad bunch. But my top marks go to Yugoslavia and Austria (arrangement ruined it) - especially as both were robbed in 1983. Luxembourg - is that Carla Bruni aged 12? France + Suisse - old-fashioned. Norway - naff. UK - embarrassing! Cyprus - image ruins it. Belgium - love the scary deadpan expressions! Germany - schlager but not too bad. Turkey - no style.
Not quite good like 83 and 85 or 86 but some good songs as well: Belgium 1 point Netherlands 2 points UK 3 points Germany 4 points Luxembourg 5 points Ireland 7 points Switzerland 8 points And from Scandinavia a pure scandinavian top 3: Norway 8 points (Love the Dolly-jentene) Denmark 10 points (Hot-Eyes best song) SWEDEN 12 points (The real winner - love their performing!)
What a terrible song by Sweden! One of the worst winners in Eurovision Song Contest history. 1984 was a very poor year. Only Italy and Germany are acceptable.
here is a vote of Korean jury... 1 Germany 2 United Kingdom 3 Belgium 4 Austria 5 Luxembourg 6 Portugal 7 Ireland 8 Netherlands 10 Yugoslavia 12 Sweden
That's not entirely true. Netherlands and the UK have also done it, in 1975 and 1976, respectively. Still, Sweden is the *last* country to have won with a song that opened the contest (no other country has done it since), which is also pretty cool... ;-)
Sorry for not answering sooner. The song is "L'Amour Est Bleu", which was Luxembourg's 1967 entry, performed by Vicky Leandros. A classic today, it reached only 4th place that year, but nevertheless became a huge worldwide hit thanks to an instrumental version by Paul Mauriat (along with "Volare", they're the only Eurovision songs to go #1 in the US chart!). And, of course, Vicky herself would go on to win the contest 5 years later with "Apres Toi".
Can someone tell me what is the piece of music that starts after the introduction music and another piece of music and the one before a lady announce Sweden? Please please tell me, it is very important!
I'm ready to give you the Belgian fan results of the contest 1984 (points between brackets when I wouldn't given any point to the belgian entry). Portugal - 1 point (Denmark - 1 point) Finlan - 2 points (Portugal - 2 points) Sweden - 3 points (Finland - 3 points) Norway - 4 points (Sweden - 4 points) Yugoslavia - 5 points (Norway - 5 points) BELGIUM - 6 points (Yugoslavia - 6 points) Netherlands - 7 points Spain - 8 points Ireland - 10 points ITALY - 12 points
OMG! UK looked like clown whores... Belgium looked like a miserable emo crowd... haha. The best song obviously won. Yugoslavia, Denmark and Norway were among the best also. What's with the Italy-hype? It was ugly.
I can't see what people have against "Diggiloo Diggiley" to make it one of the least popular ESC winners ever. Of course, I'm Swedish, so I might be biased here. But is it really that bad?
My four big favorites from this year is Sweden (of course), Denmark, Turkey and Yugoslavia. But if that's because I grew up with those four, since my sister recorded their preview videos on an old VCR tape, or because they are the best, I really can't say. Nah, I go with the theory, that those four really are the best, and that my sister had a really good taste, when she recorded those four.
I was born in 1984, so it's fun to see this, even though I was born in June, so I still had a few weeks left to go, when the Herreys gave us our second ESC victory.
12 Italy 10 Portugal 8 UK 7 Austria 6 Belgium 5 Luxembourg 4 Switzerland 3 Denmark 2 Ireland 1 Netherland Ana maria elene one of the worst song in the history...
Oh, what does it matter anyway? I personally think that our (Greek) entry in 1992 was the best of the year, so why shouldn't I be able to give it 12 points if it's my favorite? I mean I know we should try to be as unbiased as possible but what if it's really our favorite song?
Well done Ireland (2nd), Spain (3rd) and France (8th) in 1984. Three excellent songs. Ireland, you can do as well in next year's final, with a quality song similar to "Terminal 3". No more Dustin the Turkey rubbish. Likewise France, try something decent like "Autant D'Amoureux Que D'Etoiles" instead of weak imitations of "Hippy Hippy Shake". Spain, you too can do well with something akin to "Lady Lady" instead of what you had this year. You can't lay all the blame on eastern bloc voting.
That's a tough comparison, given the 24 years separating those entries. And in the sea of (it must be said) mediocre entries nowadays, and coming after rather meagre French entries, "Divine" stands out for me. Haven't heard "Hippy hippy shake" yet.
That's it folks - voting's closed! A late burst of votes managed to bring Ireland back to 2nd place and Portugal to 5th but, really, this was Italy's voting all along, with the Tozeur trains steamrolling to the top from early on! It's generally one of the polls where our vote seems quite different from the juries', with high rankings for Netherlands, Portugal, Germany and Norway and relatively low ones for Sweden and (surprisingly) Belgium (also, Austria last AGAIN - a real pity...)
I'm going thru this year all again, so Comments for when u return to our midst. Noticeable the difference in our poll to the actual contest; what must be the lowest placing for an actual winner; Italy & my lovely Mirabelle doing so well.
1 p France (somehow "screamy" sound she has ) 2 p Sweden 3 p Ireland 4 p UK 5 p The Netherlands 6 p Portugal 7 p Germany 8 p Finland (underrated - or am I really that Finland-biased??) 10 p Turkey (doesn't beat the Turkish entry of '81, though) 12 p Italy Btw, in these days afwully bad vocal performances such as that from Luxembourg (and to much less extent Norway) was exceptional. Oh, not to forget Romina Power, of course! ;-) Later on it has unfortunately became much more frequent...
Points from Portugal: 1 point to Spain 2 points to Cyprus 3 points to Netherlands 4 points to Germany 5 points to Yugoslavia 6 points to Norway 7 points to Finland 8 points to United Kingdom 10 points to Sweden and, 12 points to.. Ireland Portuguese entry was the best!
Yes, it was an amazing, amazing song indeed (I was THIS close to giving you my 12p myself!). Yet another time that you were truly underrated in the scorings...

Time for aan update on the full scoreboard - the top-10... 1) Italy 358 2) Spain 295 3) Netherlands 252 (back to 3rd place) 4) Ireland 247 5) UK 231 6) Portugal 220 7) Denmark 213 8) Sweden 173 9) Germany 161 10) Norway 134
For this year: 1 Norway (please, don't copy swedish songs, ok???) 2 Germany 3 Netherlands 4 Yugoslavia 5 UK 6 France 7 Finland 8 Spain 10 Luxembourg 12 Sweden (I saw many people vote to his own country, so...)
RE: your 12pts - its for that very reason you give that I dont look at these rankings. They are so flawed that it just doesnt make any sense. An experiment that blew up in one's face.
(for the record, people invariably giving full marks to their own country are only a tiny fraction of the general, ahem, "electorate", and their votes have thus little influence on the scoreboard)
I didn't know we weren't allowed to vote for our own countries... I know you can't in the real one but surely enforcing this rule here would put certain countries at a disadvantage if there are more members from that country?
And I have nationality of 3 countries... should I have ignored all of them or just the one I live in most of the time?
No, don't worry about that. I may not vote for Greece myself, but I've never discouraged anyone from voting for their own country in these polls, with the thought that people can be objective and properly evaluate their own entry (of course, there've been users who've invariably given their own country 12p, no matter how strong or weak their entry was - but those were fortunately just a minority).
The latest results show Ireland returning to the top-3: 1) Italy 354 2) Spain 285 3) Ireland 246 4) Netherlands 242 5) UK 226 6) Portugal 214 7) Denmark 208 8) Sweden 161 9) Germany 151 10) Norway 133 Wishing to give a push to your favorites? Was this year really this bad? I had forgotten... It was hard to find the ten countries that deserved the points, it was easier to eliminate and say "zero points". The result, though, ended like this: France 1 pt Austria 2 pts Finland 3 pts Norway 4 pts Turkey 5 pts Ireland 6 pts Italy 7 pts Portugal 8 pts Netherlands 10 pts ..and surprise, surprise: Yugoslavia 12 pts!
The latest votes help the Netherlands and the UK climb back to 3rd and 5th place respectively, while Norway's Dollie de Luxe make their first appearance into the top-10!

Less than 2 weeks left to vote before the closing date of February 27. Post your favorites today!

I wonder if it's just because it's '84 or if it's become the case with most of the recaps tat the attribution of points is very balanced indeed!

So much good songs this year, it's hard to choose...I was tossing between Belgium, Netherlands, Denmark and France for 10th place.

RE: your 12pts - its for that very reason you give that I dont look at these rankings. They are so flawed that it just doesnt make any sense. An experiment that blew up in one's face.
lwsmackie 4 years ago
Grumpy, grumpy...
(for the record, people invariably giving full marks to their own country are only a tiny fraction of the general, ahem, "electorate", and their votes have thus little influence on the scoreboard)
tasosk3 4 years ago
I didn't know we weren't allowed to vote for our own countries... I know you can't in the real one but surely enforcing this rule here would put certain countries at a disadvantage if there are more members from that country?
And I have nationality of 3 countries... should I have ignored all of them or just the one I live in most of the time?
lyricistgirl 3 years ago
No, don't worry about that. I may not vote for Greece myself, but I've never discouraged anyone from voting for their own country in these polls, with the thought that people can be objective and properly evaluate their own entry (of course, there've been users who've invariably given their own country 12p, no matter how strong or weak their entry was - but those were fortunately just a minority).
