Djibouti is a country that wouldn't be able to survive or sustain it self without the support of the French government and more recently the Americans who have opened a military base there. In my opinion, the UN should have federated Djibouti with Somalia back in the 1960s when both countries become independent, coz it Djibouti doesn't have any major natural resource appart from Fishing exports and Djibouti Sea Port with generates over $400 million in revenue to the government.

half the country is poor, i just got back from there in October. That is the hottest place on earth, a lot of people live in huts on the railroad tracks. You are constantly bombarded for money. Most people speak english which is nice. Stuff is very cheap though, good quality stuff also. If you are looking to go I would stay at either the Sheraton or the Kempinski. All the cabs drivers and 80% of the males chew a drug called Khat. I had the time of my life and would go back today.

I've spent a little more then three years there. It is fairly safe. It is a turmoil region. It all depends on what capacity are you in?! If you are a regular visitor, it is very safe.
