  • I went to this show, and was stoked when Mike came out, but you couldn't hear him. The sound guy screwed it all up,

  • I'm sorry but on one can ever beat The Clash's rendition of I Fought the Law. To even try is just a waste of time.

  • Setzer stands like a guitar player. Ness stands like a rock star.

  • mike ness, joe strummer, brian setzer.......I fought the law.......una versione meglio dell'altra.... ma qual'è la migliore ???? se l'avessero fatta......quella con tutti e tre insieme !!

  • super cool

  • sounds like the stray kat is back on the junk!!!!!!!!!! lolol

  • It's no use bad mouthing Ness here. If Setzer didn't like Ness then he wouldn't have invited him onstage, or appeared on his album. So do your research before coming on here and talking trash about a punk rock icon. Your supposed "God" Setzer respects Ness. I give him credit for getting up there, period. Also, if Setzer came onstage during a Social D. show he would stick out like a sore thumb & be just as out of place.

  • I was actually at this show and it sounded amazing. The energy coming from the crowd was ridiculous

  • Oh jeepers! Much as I love Ness and Social Distortion he has made, what should've been a match made in heaven suck like a V8-powered hooker. Horrendous.

  • William Hung could of done better than ol Nessy

  • Now thats funny ;)

  • I love Ness, SD, and the Stray Cats, but I gotta say this performance is brutal. They're playing on top of each other... Ness seems to want to perform his version, while Setzer and the boys are sticking closer to the original arrangement. It's like my ears are being raped.

  • I'd have to admit, this sounds terrible.

  • I have all the right in the world to say what i feel because You Tube gives us the right to give our honest opinions. "Mike Ness touches people where it matters"? Touches who? You? And where is he touching you? Fact is the fact, and if it hurts don't blame me. Impressionable kids like you that don't really know what musical talent is are the ones i hope learn in the future.

  • You're nothing more than a hired gun playing other peoples songs in a studio. It takes soul and heart.Too bad you have not learned that sometimes it's not always about being pitch perfect in the studio. Yes he touches people, lets not be immature now. I guess thats the difference between a studio musician and an artist. Your a robot, no soul. He wears his heart on his sleave and shares it with the world. He writes his life. THATS what an artist does.

  • I'm a Robot now ? Ha ha ha ha. Danger Will Robinson. I'm a studio musician but have played in bands. Don't sing because i know i don't have a voice - unlike your idol. I play the guitar (lead & rhythm) , Bass, Drums, and piano. I have also written many songs including co writing songs for the Springsteen, Fabulous Thunderbirds,& Chris Isaac. If i had no soul i wouldn't be where i'm at today. Do you sing or play any instruments? Didn't think so, jack off !

  • TO: a40sgal & V8Deuce, you do not have the music knowledge nor right to criticize a musician such as Mike Ness, no one does, I love both Social D and the Stray Cats, Mike might not be able to play the guitar as well as setzer, but the solos he does play, although short and simple, have alot of power, he hits those fews notes to their peak, and makes it an incredible sound. if you really "knew" music, you would pay Ness his respects for what he has accomplished, its something you will never do..

  • I consider myself a professional multi talented studio musician and someone who has been a singer for over 30 years . I can tell you that without a doubt Mike Ness is a package that major corporate recording companies can easily market. He is not much of a musician (in talented sense) and does indeed sing for shit. To of jumped on stage with a freak of nature phenomenal guitarist (who is probably in the top 10 in the world) and sing so badly was extremely embarrassing . I was there .

  • This music is not about a talent. Its about what you have in your mind and heart

  • Good for you. Dont matter if he's not technically a good singer, he touchs people where it matters. Something you obviously haven't been able to do with all your supposed "multiple talents".

  • This still and will always love the original the best, the guitar Bobby Fuller plays gets to the point brilliantly...with fabulous tone.

They should find out who ended his young brilliant career, Both these men pay homage to him very well, and always have.

  • I DON'T CARE OF WHAT THEY SAY....

  • Bravo Ev82il

Couldn't have said it better myself.

  • mike ness might not be good at playin guitar...i agree.

but hell...he can sing..and if u find his voice monotonous is because ur used to the fuckin' music that the labels sell. go watch american idle or somethin'...u dont know what real music is. go and buy ur pop cds which come pre-worked on so the "artist" sounds great!

the man has been around longer than some of what the mainstream considers "greats" "legends"

    shit....

and setzer....he is GOD. all hail king setzer...

  • I'm not used to contemporary music because i don't listen to 99% of it. There's a difference between Springsteen & Cash, and the way Ness sings (or tries to) . He makes money doing what he does. Good for him. He makes the best out of what his capabilities are. Good for him. I'm just sick of people idolizing this guy because they think he's this ultra talented singer/musician when he isn't.

  • Most don't idolize him for his talent as a singer and musician. It's because he's been doing it for so long, writes songs that many can relate to about the ups and downs in life, is into what made Southern California what it is today (rods, customs, punk and rock, tattoos, and live music), and playing music because you want to, not because you have to for the money. SD and Ness are not contemporary by any means.

  • Johnny cash couldnt sing either, or play guitar that well, but he could write, and he had heart..... so does ness!

  • Really, And you know this because.............

Johnny Cash actually had various tones to his voice AND knew how to play guitar. Ness has a fuckin monotone voice and his guitar playing is amateur at best. I am a singer, song write, and musician . I can say this with honesty and truth.

  • Im a fan of cash, but if he had such a vocal range, why are the majority of his songs e, d, a with the occasional b. Who cares if Mikes not a virtuoso, vai or malsteen can play 100 notes a second but it runs out of steam and gets boring, they have nothing to say. Mikes music and lyrics speak right to the heart of ppl that can relate to what he has to say AND WHAT HE HIMSELF HAS BEEN THROUGH. Thats why hes been around 4 30 years.

  • Go listen to more than the popular tunes from him. Rockabilly blues, the wonder of you (also performed by elvis), I'd Rather Die Young. Though I will disagree with whoever said he had a great range because he didn't,but could sing very well.Ness while not the best guitar player,is a good song writer, and he is good at making songs his own. He has a style and it has worked for him.The best songs of all time are generally simple progressions and a good catch.

  • can't wait to hear your record when it comes out!!!!!! when is that again you twat

  • I came all away from Ohio 2 see this show it was amazing. Hate on haters!!!

  • What a Nightmare.

  • Mike Ness is cool.

    Except Setzer is a god.

  • Lets get the facts straight here...this song was a piece of shit until The Clash made it into one of the best punk rock anthems ever! The Stray Cats were/are a boring band, and were average at best. Mike Ness/Social D....one of the greatest band ever!

  • "Punkerdude" , You absolutely know nothing about music if you want to write that SD is the greatest band ever ! Bobby Fuller Four did an amazing job of this song originally. Power chords, lots of volume and distortion don't make you talented. Take singing, guitar, and music history lessons , then come back and make that same statement. I bet you wont !

  • I remember hearing the Stray Cats on the radio as a kid on all the pop stations that were playing Michael Jackson, and Pat Benatar. It sucked then, and it sucks now. Mike Ness is a true punk rock legend! I dont care how good Brian Setzer can play. Mike Ness is a gifted song writer, and guitar player. If you dont think Mike is a good guitar player, then you have never played a guitar. Long live Social Distortion!

  • In fact, his amazing guitar ability reaches so far as to not be able to move out of first position for an entire song, look down at the neck constantly (those coybow chords are tough to nail if you're not looking) and have to have a stage hand run out and turn up the volume because the knob is so hard to find.

I have nothing against the guy. I just wish people would realise the simple facts about him. He can't play, he can't sing, but he CAN command respect. He's a punk, not a musician.

  • Wow have you heard like any of his solos he made from like 1980, jeez he was a monster at like 17. I think he is a very underrated guitarist. And about the volume, stage hands are supposed to have that set up so they can just play and not worry about minor things like. And he can sing listen to his songs.

  • Well said.

  • Oh yeah, i bet Dean, crazy eyes Sammy, and Frank could never ride a skateboard. Or Brian Setzer for that matter, he wouldn't wanna brake a nail or something. Who gives a flying fuck about vanity and class. That's for chumps. Social D keeps it real, enough said.

  • Hey kid, I'm not talking about skateboards here, and i'm not talking about "Keeping it real" , what i'm talking about is not knowing how to sing or play guitar (something the Rat Pack knew how to do) and so does Setzer! The Stray Cats made a HUGE mistake calling that idiot up on stage - even if he is from O.C. - who cares !

  • Mike Ness is an unskilled Musician and singer ,and this proves it ! Anyone who truly knows music is aware of this !

Notice how he keeps looking at Setzer's guitar playing, Its because he doesn't know what the hell to do.

All he can do is Yell "Shotgun" in his monotone rebellious voice !

Go back to music school and take some singing & guitar lessons !

  • Whatever knowitall, it just looks like mr. ness was put on the hot spot at a "Stray Cats" concert, so what? Why are you trying to knock the man? Do you suck Brian Setzer's dick? Brian setzer is a good guitar player, very good, although he is a bit eccentric at times . Ness is the king of cool, dude established that already. how about that!

  • King of cool ?!?!?!/ Says who? You ? Bullshit!

Dean Martin = cool, Sammy Davis Jr = cool, Sinatra = cool. Mike Ness has no muscial talent, like so many other mainstream "artists" out there today.

The facts are the facts, Mike Ness can't play guitar worth a fuck, and has absolute no singer capabilities, therefor he should not of put himself up on that stage.....Even is he was, as you say, "put on the spot"
