Hasha I can play this on violin, not as fast as course, but it sitll pretty fast. and cuz of the way my arm moves with the bow.. it looks absolutely hilarious watching the group of us play this song... loll
@DELMONICOZ it's good, different version and very well played. listen to the Chieftains playing this in the album "Fire in the Kitchen" (couldn't find on youtube....but it's easy to get it on the net). best version of all IMO. cheers
I've been searching for this song and its name for quite a few years since I last heard it performed at a theme park. Its nice to finally learn what its called as well as hear it performed so amazingly!
@6string21.. there's no physical difference between fiddle n a violin.. its just the way they're played, apart from some people have a flat bridge for fiddling cause it makes double stopping easier!
@6string21 ahh.. didnt quite get the sarcasm there! oops! was worried when i posted back this would turn in2 1 of those debates.. glad u were joking =]
Sorry, I didn't explain clearly. I suggested two different options 1. In the B part, instead of going simply to D, transition via F to get to the D 2. Or, even jazzier: Instead of using D, use left hand as... index on strings 1&2 at 1st fret middle on 2nd fret pinkie on 3rd string at 3rd fret ring on 4th string at 3rd fret ..to transition into the D. (I think it's D#9 ? I got the idea off a marvellou duet Devil's Dream banjo piece in the album "Anthology of the Banjo" Cheers
Great fun, well done. Banjo, Try doing a transition F chord going to the D, it's very exciting. You can also use the very jazzy banjo chord created when you play a guitar F shape there instead. Dunno what it's called, D# I think, but it's a real crowd pleaser too, going down to the D.
My late grandpa use to clog to Spade Cooley's version. I am sure he would have really enjoyed these guys. They are fantatastic. They are just 50 years too late for "grandpa Tom."
I've only been playing that tune about 30 years, perhaps another 30 and I'll be half as good as that banjo player. You are all fantastic. Great stuff. Banjodag (UK)
Thank you Merlyn!!! I used a JVC HD7U camera, plugged into the soundboard...It's a great camera, but its audio options are limited. However, running the sound board helps, so I can get a good, usable audio signal to the camera and a separate one to the digital audio recorder, which provides me with a backup recording to use just in case. Whatever ends up on YouTube is lower resolution in comparison to what the camera's raw files look like, but it's comforting to know people are liking it...
