@sweetlollypoplips In real life, "Dear John" is a type of letter many service guys get from girlfriends when they join or are overseas. The women can't stay faithful or strong to military men. Thats why divorce is nearly guaranteed in the military. And when the guys are fighting wars, what are the women doing? Looking for a guy to keep them comfort. Any guy with sense will never trust a girl that ONLY dates military men. Those are girls that don't want to work for a living. bcuz of the benefits.

the book is very different.

the book discribes the girl as a brunette...and in the movie ..she clearly a dirty blond, also john is meant to tattoes all over his arm..thats what truly makes him himself in the book, but this movie doesnt seem to capture that.

sooo, i read the book first and then saw the movie, which was a horrible idea. i just didn't enjoy it as much. i mean, the book was very good, but the movie was just okay. i guess, i was just disappointed about how it ended and just what they put in it and what they didn't.

no john never died in the book, in the book savannah gets married to a man and john comes back after his dads funeral and meets up with her and its clear they still love eachother but her husband is dying and john doesnt want to come between a husband and wife so leaves. but he goes to visit her later and she is stood on her porch looking up at the moon which what they used to do if they wanted to be with eachother, sooo sad made me cry

I JUST finished the book, the book is a bit better when it comes to explaining what was going on, but honestly the danm book is so sad nothing good ever happens between them otehr than the first two weeks... I really liek the movie's alternative ending ALOT better, the ending ni the book is horribly sad, for both John and Savanah.
