  • there is a bit of an audio video lag, but its still good.

  • Maja, I'm not sure if you know already, but there's a bit of background to this song.

The woman is singing to her husband, who has been defeated fighting against the Williamite troops in Ireland. Under the terms of the Treaty of Limerick (which was not honoured by the invaders), he and his fellow defeated soldiers were to leave Ireland. They were allowed to leave with their arms and colours (flags / banners) and sail to France to serve in the Irish Brigade of the French King.

  • So this woman is lamenting, she is selling everything she owns to buy her husband a sword so he may go and fight in the French army. And this is why sh is saying

" Go, go, go my love Go quietly and peacefully Go to the door and flee with me And may you go safely my dear. "

For she will never see him again.

A sad, but beautiful song :-)
