Hi, I am a djembe player and play traditional african rhythms of the Malinke culture. But it is wonderful to be able to groove to more dance and modern rhythms too. Love the way you teach. And I am able to follow your instructions quite easily. After catching the techniques of playing what you teach, I get hold of my favourite cds to match the rhythms and play together with the music. I love it...! Thanks for showing...!
hi, ur great, I am new to djembe and have always wanted to try it, i was at the guitar center to get one, that has sound like yours, but didn't find anything close to yours, could you plz tell me what kind of djembe are you using in these videos.thank s
Love this video, wonderfully taught. I was able to follow along and then slow it way down until I could play it consistently on my own in one sitting. Gonna check out all the rest of your videos. This was a blessing to me.
Is that a 24x10" Earth Remo Djembe? I'm 6'1 so I thought I should have a 14", but since I need about 24" in length, would you recommend it for a 6 footer? I just started playing guitar for church, but I was in love with drums for as far back as I can remember, but never got to play them. You can do a surprising amount with a djembe, however. Thank you for posting this
I was getting frustrated at all the Djembe videos. This was EXACTLY what I wanted to see. I played on a friends cheap tourist one once, and this is the closest to my style I think I will find on here. Now I think I know what type I am looking to get. Thank you very much
this is one of the most versatile beats on a djembe. learn it and it can be used for endless applications! play around with accents and mutes. try putting a couple coins on the head of ur drum. makes a cool effect. Thanks shawn!
man your awesome..the reggae vid is great! i learned djembe by watching these videos! and a band picked me up to play with them too! Thanks man keep it up.
Muito bom, como percussionista, me sentia incompleto não tocando djembe, mas o cara aí manda super bem e estou malhando todos os dias os exercícios que ele posta aqui, parabéns e não deixe de postar nunca, eu faço muito proveito disso!
Hey, come and listen to my MEDITATION PIANO MUSIC and tell me how it helps you meditate. Also listen to any other tunes or watch videos and tell me thoughts or feelings.
Good instructor...Thank you...However, I have a hard time counting the beats one e anna 2 e anna....etc.. I'm a beginner...are there any exercises you can help me with so i can keep the beat??/ Thanks ^___^
Thank you so much for that .I used to play with friends and has been years. I made a djembe and have been playing on my own trying to get feel for it again. You explained it wonderfully. piece
you are a really good teacher. in just one day of practice, i already can do this, and the reggae rythm too!(although my hands hurt :P) Thanks from Portugal.
The open tones on this djembe sound clean. Mine has a clang ring sound. Did you do anything to yours to minimize that or do smaller drums have less ring to em? I have a 14'' Remo djembe fiberskyn 3
i know now what djembe i'm going to buy. you make the remo 10' sound realy nice. it has a sort of latin sound like a bongo/conga sound but it's a djembe. very versatile drum.
I use this type of rhythm in slow tunes with a little different style, I use my heal tip and harmonic tone in combination with a slap and it produces this simular rhythm as the one your demonstrating. Good job on yours!
I just wanted to say music is not mathematics...even though you can count in it. IMHO if it sounds good it doesn't matter how it's played. Just have fun and experiment a little :) btw this rhythm rocks! :) can't wait to get my djembe and learn it
Your videos are, hands down the best instructional videos on playing the djembe on the internet. Would you please tell me how you miked it ? I have had so much trouble with the separation of ow and high end. yours is dramatic.
I have had some success mounting a vocal akg mike into the bottom of the same djembe you have. Thank you peace/b/w/u
i mike the top skin, that's all. there was audio post done, so what you're hearing was tweaked. miking the bottom gives you the oomph, but if you'd like the "crack" and finger movements to be captured, the top would be essential.
my mom showed me your videos on playing christian music on the djembe and you are really good. i am going to be playing for my church soon so ill keep practicing thanx a ton
This is the 2nd video of yours that I have watched. I just subscribed and I am going to check out your blogspot page. Take Care, Great Job and Great Sound, that would be a good video to make. "Getting good sound , miking a drum and voice on a video". Joseph W., Cape Cod, MA, USA

These are not jembe techniques, nor is that a jembe, but you have a good ear and some good conga skills.

B t t t C t t t H t H t C t t t
(where B is bass, C is closed harmonic, H is harmonic and t is touch)
