  • Completely different topic - just got a Shinkenmaru myself, and my shishi disc is a much darker red plastic, darker than the red stripe along the handle. It's on all surfaces so it can't be from sun exposure. Any ideas as to the cause, and/or is that a signifigant fault?

  • So effectively, when placing a disc on the spinning hilt, the shinkenmaru would detect that because all forty buttons would be pressed at once. Next, only the buttons required for a certain disc would be pressed, and that's how it identifies.

And when you spin the disc, it literally powers the sword speaker :)

How much would the market be willing to pay for that, seeing as the general feeling I've been getting from reviews is that the Shinkenmaru is already at the very high end of affordable.

  • @Steamtostay

    -_-

Seriously, dude, you're making this *way* too complicated...

  • @EVAUnit4A

Sorry, my exams just finished and my brain's still hyperactive.

  • Heh, figured out a much easier solution; the back of the handle, opposite the main trigger, could've had five buttons in the five main colours, each doing basically what the normal trigger does when you spin the hiden disc very fast. You could then operate the buttons with your thumb. Hell, if you want to hide it better, don't make them colour coded, but black with shape-codes i.e. pentagon, hexagon, square, triangle, circle.

  • Thinking about how to fix the problem of disc detection. Short of using a shinkenmaru as a mould only, then casting and building new parts with the required features, I wonder whether a tiny camera-like device, for colour recognition purposes, could be embedded in the gold 'lip' that runs down next to the edge of the various discs? Then replace the internal circuitry, and you could program six sounds, one for black, red, blue, pink, green and yellow discs.

    Thoughts?

  • @Steamtostay

Wow, that's WAAAAAAY too complex for a $40 role-playing toy! The Inromaru did it just fine the way it ID'd Hiden Discs.

What I wanted was the ShineknMaru to have the capability to read Discs in a similar manner to the Inromaru.

  • @EVAUnit4A Agreed, except that it only works when the disc is stationary, and having a music-box mechanical detection system would mean non-identical sides to each of the discs. That would also (I'm guessing here) stop the Tora Disc from functioning inside the DaiTenkuu (since that disc is built differently, there has to be a reason).

Besides, you'd have a friction problem even worse than with the clicking at the top of the praxinoscope mirror.

So colour recognition seems the best option?

  • @Steamtostay

No, color recognition would easily double the cost of the toy; it's far too complex for the needs of the toy!

To recognize, all you need to do is turn the toy on first, insert a Disc, let it detect the divots in the Disc, and *then* you can spin it and it will react appropriately. It's no different from how Gokaiger toys can read Ranger Keys. (IMO, Hiden Discs were a research phase/tech step needed in order to eventually produce Ranger Keys.)

  • @EVAUnit4A

That might work, but it would have to detect very quickly; ideally less than two seconds. Also, as far as I can tell from videos, the inroumaru depends on the disc being stationary; it uses a set of five push-buttons and the various combinations (up to 32 options) tell it what disc it's using.

  • The other problem is that both the Inroumaru and Gokai keys (as far as I can tell) always have the operator looking at the way the disc/key is being inserted, even when the latter is used for a henshin to some degree.

With the Shinkenmaru, if you're placing the disc on the hilt post-henshin you're not going to be looking at which way the disc is meant to be facing, and you'd end up with maybe a 5-10% chance of getting it right.

  • I suppose you could have the 'code' system on all eight sides? Then you'd have a 50% chance of getting it right.

You couldn't use the Ebi Origami disc's notch system unless there was a suitable channel near the tip of the Shinkenmaru's handle, so that discs were automatically rotated to the correct postion before landing at the hilt. But then, how do you adjust for the spinning bit?

  • Another thought - mount the 'code' system in the middle of the disc, facing inward with the reader on the spinning black hilt? You'd still need all eight sides to have the codes, but it has potential. The Shinkenmaru would also be able to tell when a disc was being placed on (not just spun) by doing that.

Which reminds me; instead of the clicking thing, why didn't they just link the spinning disc feature to a small generator?

  • THAT'S where the mega blade got its sound effects!

  • @a7xtherevrend

Of course. The Mega Blade wasn't in Shinkenger, so they had to get them from somewhere!

  • shishi origami is running

  • rawrrr...meow

  • The Hiden Discs could also be used with the Inroumaru, which is the "super changer" for Shinkenger. It can read discs, somewhat similar to what the Tensouder does in Goseiger.

  • wakazashi is the smaller samurai sword.

  • cool

  • Lol.. Lion king roar

  • Perhaps the last sound is from the Tiger Origami... Or shall I say Tora Origami

  • @fireluke No. If that were the case, we'd hear the Kabuto and Kajiki, which came before it. Nice guess though.

    --EVA_Unit_4A

  • @CollectionDX Can you show the kabuto disc and the kajiki disc working spinning

  • @nyaah216 If I get them, yes.

    --EVA_Unit_4A

  • @CollectionDX ok tnx but pleaaasssseee

  • @nyaah216 If I ever get them, then YES, I will! Problem is they don't make 'em anymore, and it's almost been a year since they came out.

    Sheesh... -_-;

    --EVA_Unit_4A

  • @CollectionDX the last sound i think is the turtle oragmi

  • @digirockmon327

TWO sounds for the Kame Origami? No...

  • Well, using in-show continuity and having ruled out the Kabuto, Kajiki, Tora and presumably Ika as well, maybe it's DaiTenkuu, or the Ushi or Kyoryu Origami?

  • @Steamtostay

No. Those all have very distinct sounds. And Bandai wouldn't have released sounds of them so early in the first wave of Shinkenger toys.

  • How big is that sword???

  • RUN LION RUN

  • EVA-

could you do a video review of a mecha from an older sentai(boukenger, gaoranger)?

also, ask ginrai to put up a review of his new megazord, please.

(I would ask on your channel but it is disabled sorry if i annoyed anyone)

  • I'm in the midst of a Transformers blitz right now, and I have to start getting prepared for the newest season ("Tensou Sentai Goseiger").

But yes, I do plan to revisit a few past ones in the future.

I don't think Ginrai has video capability, but I'll ask.

    --EVA_Unit_4A

  • Thank you

  • i think its a turtle EVA_Unit_4a

  • Ha ha ha! It is that time of year.

  • Say, do you intend to get the Daizanto and the Water Arrow & Wood Spear set? Because if you do, just as a heads up, I've seen a picture of the Daizanto being compared to the ShinkenMaru online, and even though it's not the same massive weapon that Shinken Red uses in the show, the toy verson is still pretty big. If you already know that, then ok. :) As for the Water Arrow & Wood Spear set, just another piece of the Shinkenger collection.

  • there is a reader for the hidden disks Hiden Kaisekiki Inroumaru

  • Yes, I know that already. You think I could post it this late and not already know about the Inromaru...? ;)

    --EVA_Unit_4A

  • Sorry do you have/are you paining to get Hidden Kaisekiki Inroumaru?

  • no, I will NOT be covering the Inromaru.

    --EVA_Unit_4A

  • do you review any of the super sentai ranger figures like the buildable ones for shinkenger

  • You mean the DX-sized mecha? Of course!

I just don't cover action figures, and most of the role-play stuff.

    --EVA_Unit_4A

  • wow i really liked the being when u started to explained how it worked it was interesting and makes me want it more lol mind if i ask where u got it since i know they wont be selling that in america lol

  • I got it from HobbyLink Japan; as I do all of my Super Sentai toys.

    --EVA_Unit_4A

  • tyvm :o

  • Ok then, I'll be looking forward to your review when you get it.

  • Ok, but like I said, I don't have an ebay account. Anyway, I thought you'd like to know in case you don't, there's a special dinosaur Origami that's neck is a sword blade and it has the same reflecting thing that the Shinkenmaru has. It can be used as a sword for Shinken Red and the Shinken Oh. I Believe this one is called Kyoryu Origami. Just thought it'd be more to your taste.

  • Fear not- I do plan to get the Kyuryu Origami, 'cause I actually do like the mods they made to it, and how it combines with Shinken-Oh.

    --EVA_Unit_4A

  • If you don't want the ShinkenMaru, why don't you just sell it on ebay? If you do, I'd gladly take it cuz I like swords, but I don't have an ebay acount becuse I don't know how to work it.

  • I don't like it, but I need it in order to showcase the animation that each Secret Disc has from other toys! Even when I complete my collection for "Shinkenger", I will be keeping it... though it will rapidly collect dust.

Sorry! You can still buy them from HobbyLink Japan [one of CDX's sponsors]!

    --EVA_Unit_4A

  • u gona get the sakanamaru(anchovie of death) sword

  • I'm gonna give it a Maximal try. That one looks better than the ShinkenMaru ever did, even though it doesn't have the praxinoscope feature.

    =/

    --EVA_Unit_4A

  • also could u do a vid showing all the disks u had moviing

  • I already covered the Shield Disc in my vid review of the DX Shinken-Oh. I will highlight each disc in the toy I get it with, not a montage within one video.

    --EVA_Unit_4A

  • ok thanks

  • Wow that was very cool, the toy and sword LOOK great but are hardly practice, very clever, and great review

  • they carve the kabuto the sword fish and tora have carved disks

  • I know- I goofed when I said that. The Shield Disc from the DX Shinken-Oh (which I have also covered) has raised surfaces that are painted as well.

    --EVA_Unit_4A

  • How are you still in the early season? its on episode like 40, or are you just doing this for people that havent watched it?

  • Well... both, actually.

I always shoot my vids as if they are brand new and we haven't seen beyond them [yet].

However, I have also lagged in seeing "Shinkenger". Last subbed episode I saw (as of the posting of this vid) was just after they introduced the Tora Shinken-Oh in Act 09.

    ^^;

    --EVA_Unit_4A

  • the physics lesson was awesome

  • LoL

    Thanks.

That makes two that have said that. Anyone else...? =D

    --EVA_Unit_4A

  • so cool

  • I really enjoyed that physics lesson

  • LoL

    Thanks.

    --EVA_Unit_4A

  • whered u buy it?

  • Re-watch the credits.

    --EVA_Unit_4A

  • Comment removed

  • Yeah. I just can't identify that one last sound in the video. I thought it might have been the Kuma, but that one is distinct enough.

    --EVA_Unit_4A

  • i think its the tora origami.

  • I don't think so...

If that were the case, we'd also have the Kabuto and Kajiki Origami in there as well (which both came before the Tora did), but they aren't.

    Thanks for the suggestion, though.

    --EVA_Unit_4A

  • no prob, just figured it was tora just cause kajiki has more of a cross of a aquatic screech and kabuto is more of a low rumbling... at least to my ears, but you do make a valid point

  • someone should review a zecter from kamen rider kabuto.

  • I have a DX Henshin Bracelet TheBee Zecter waiting [anxiously] in the wings, but I cannot possibly review it until I find replacement Velcro straps for it!

See the credits in my review of the Garulu Saber [from "Kamen Rider Kiva"] for the details on that issue.

    --EVA_Unit_4A

  • How long ago did you film this? Some of the comments made me believe that this was filmed at the very beginning of the Shikenger.

  • Oh, good-! I *wanted* you to think that!

I shoot all of my videos as if they had just come out, rather than as late as I did. So I do not reference later releases, combos, episodes, etc. (The same goes for for my text reviews on CDX.)

I actually shot this on Nov 15th, so I knew full-well what was coming afterwords. ;)

What I *did* forget to say in-video, though, was that the Inromaru would take on the Disc-reading feature I had wanted in this toy!

    --EVA_Unit_4A

  • FUN FACT: Samurais in history usually carried 2 swords; the long sword called a katana and the smaller sword called a wazakashi

  • I think its called Wakizashi.

  • apperantly I switched the k and z by mistake XD

True spelling was wakazashi. I checked this time XD

  • I knew that they had two swords, but didn't know what they were called, and forgot to mention it in the video.

I, too, was disappointed that each Shinkenger didn't have two swords. That might have made for a more interesting standard ranger wep than this did.

(They were probably trying not to repeat the Double Vector/Chrono Sabers from "Mirai Sentai TimeRanger"/"Power Rangers Time Force".)

    --EVA_Unit_4A

  • probably but eh oh well

  • the discs are specifically called Hiden (Hee-den) Discs, not secret discs

  • Oh.

    ...oops.

    --EVA_Unit_4A

  • Gold ranger has his own weapon and i wonder how the power rangers verison of this will turn out

  • There will be no Power Rangers version of this, or any other "Shinkenger" toy.

For 2010, Disney will be re-broadcasting MMPR season-1, and BA is releasing an entirely-new line of toys to match it!

(I've already seen the remake Dlx. Megazord in official YouTube commercials, and it's a completely new, SMALLER toy like the High Octane Megazord is I don't know at this point if I'll get it, as I already have the original...)

    --EVA_Unit_4A

  • whered you see it can u post a link

  • YouTube doesn't allow links to be posted in comments [to prevent spam].

Search for username BandaiAmerica and the video "Power Rangers Power Up Video Challenge". The new Dlx. Megazord appears in the last few seconds.

    --EVA_Unit_4A

  • Keep in mind- there's *two* of those videos, so look for the one that runs 2mins!

    --EVA_Unit_4A

  • Nice Review EVA. If i could get this and the Inroumaru I would. As well as the Shodophone.

  • This toy *should have had* the capability of the Inromaru to begin with- which I complained about in the video above- rather than them making a separate brick toy for it (which I will NOT be getting / reviewing).

    >:(

    --EVA_Unit_4A

  • now i see why you told me earlier the weapons are dissappointing

  • Yep.

Kinda a disappointing year for role-playing weps & items, the 2009 Super Sentai Series, eh?

    --EVA_Unit_4A

  • yeah <=( i have to say one of my fav role play weapon sets was the umm i believe it was "Gaoranger" wild force in the american version's Savage Saber set

  • Oh, the Juoken/Crystal Saber? Yeah- I want one of those too... even though I've never seen "GaoRanger" before!

    --EVA_Unit_4A

  • i meant their combining weapons

  • Oh.

..Nah, I don't want one of those.
