what u called limitation is a miss understangind from u. u call limitation to some absence" of speed or any stupid thing that u think that any guitarplayer must have thats how he wanted to sound like imo n thats isnt a limitation thats an artist
@kikourouiade38 i disagree - i think the way bernard sumner worked around his own limitations as a guitarist at that time was part of what made joy division sound interesting and original.
I saw the film the week it came out having been a JD fan since I was 15. I was kind of dreading it but excited and I left the cinema stunned at how good the film was. Surely one of the best biopics ever made. A stunning success.
This is the first movie from Anto Corbein A dutch guy who started out as a photografer and i must say its a class on its own. Very good on its own way . I heard of the joy division before but the movie really got me into them. I love to see his new movie with goerge cloony. I KNOW MY gf would love it!

Great biopic!! Sam Riley as Ian Curtis is a very good choice! He did a great job. I've made a fictional film cover of the upcoming biopic. It serves as a casting suggestion. Check out my channel to watch the video...
control is such an amazing movie. so much depression, music, sex, personality, music history... Sam Riley is unique in the role of Ian Curtis. Deepest respect.
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this track!! As a teenager in the late 70s, I'm ashamed to admit that the only Joy Division song I ever paid attention to/knew of was "Love Will Tear Us Apart"! Whilst there's absolutely nothing wrong in that, but to think all these years ago and I hadn't gone out of my way to listen to their other stuff! I'm going out to buy the Best Of CD tomorrow:) Can't Wait!!PS: I wish Sam Riley et al could've made a whole tribute album to JD! They're only featured once on Control!
I liked the film a lot, especially because it reflects the real feelings of people during the 70/80. There was a huge change between being "in" and "out" of society. Joy Division was a pioneer (such as were the Sex Pistols with Anarchy in the UK). My parents did not allow me to buy the LP's of them (I did it anyway). Greetings to ya all
This kid should have gotten an oscar, He's a younger and living Heath Ledger. He'll be big, give him some time...and if the acting thing dosen't pan out he can always start a band;could be interesting.
I can´t fucking believe it´s practically his FIRST job as an actor. Man when someone has the talent it works right from the very beginning! He´ll be in On The Road as Jack Kerouac and I just CAN´T WAIT. Sam Riley is one of the best actors of his generation, easily!
I saw this movie 3 times.. It's scary how much he looks like Ian Curtis. Just wondering if he used his own voice like Val Kilmir did in the film 'The Doors".

Hey, guys, I just uploaded Ian Curtis Tribute Video on my channel. It`s just final part of the movie called Control. I thought it was a very touching scene So, I hope you`re gonna like it. ...
In Loving Memory of Ian Curtis(15 July 1956 - 18 May 1980).
make Joy Division #1 in the UK for 18-05-10, it will have been 30 years since Ian passed, push Love will tear us Apart to the top, there is a facebook group
apparently our song 'tripartite crossfire' sounds alot like joy division. you can hear it on our youtube page. it would be interesting to know what people think. cheers
ian curtis loved two women his whole life. the first one, he married. the second he met after he was married. he couldnt choose between them and it ate him away inside until he killed himself. ive never seen this movie, but thats what really happened.
don't take this as a personal attack but unless you were best friends with ian or knew exactly what was going through his mind you're just a spectator like everyone else. you're not in a position to state "that's what really happened."
i'm assuming you had never met ian curtis or knew either of his lovers? correct?
I think the epilepsy that was starting to take over had more to do with it. He began to have more and more seizures during shows. I also think the girl that came to his business was always in the back of his mind because she ended of dying from on epileptic seizure at a young age.
Sure....the relationships had a lot to do with it, but I think he was just tired of dealing with his condition. In the late 70's/early 80's, epilepsy was still very misdiagnosed and misunderstood.
I think it is worth pointing out that his condition and its bad medication were not the only problems he had by the end. He was struggling to come to grips with the pressures of newfound fame, had had an affair and was trying to keep his marriage together, and by all account had actually made up his mind to leave the band. A friend of his once said his songs were actually terrible because "he really meant all of it"
Yep, this scene says it all. The bitch did him in. And everyone is going to jump on me for saying this but, I like this version better then the actual Joy Division version. GASP!
I don't think it's fair to blame it on Debbie Curtis. I doubt she forced him at gunpoint into marriage. I think it's safe to say that the mental illness, epilepsy, and depression also played a part in the way things went down.
Yeah, this scene shows Ian in a very bad light. I mean Ian was hardly a very good person to Debbie and you see that completley in the film.
But i'm just saying when I watched this, I didn't instantly feel really sorry for her too much but probably because I didn't think Ian and her were a very good match. I'm sure she's a very nice person and now I do, in general, feel very sorry for her.
Depends on how you interpret it. 'The bitch did him in' says it all, it's how the majority of folks view any situation involving a man going to pieces. Some bitch is to blame. Sad, very sad.
Since his favourites include bowie and the smiths(placing him at the correct age) why call bullshit? Can Curtis not write, or draw? Is it documented that he never ever ever interacted with his fans?
They are pretty much the same song. To call it a cover is strange anyway, it's more of a reinactment. The stiff that minus oned your comment needs to loosen up.
what's bad is I watched this movie probably 10 times before i went out and picked up any of the stuff. And I listened to this song and didnt really care for it just because it is a little different, A little slower, Ian's voice is much deeper. I've grown to love it but my wife still seems to like the guys doing from the movie a little better.
A brilliant performance in a brilliant film. I stumbled on it one day while I was channel surfing.. I couldn't stop watching it. Instantly became one of my favourite all time films..
Why did Sam Riely talk so camp in this film? Ian Curtis didnt talk like julien fuckin Clarey surley. Also he had a yorkshire accent, I think he is from Leeds, He could've at least put on the manc accent. I think Sean Harris did better as Ian in 24 hour part people. Also Sam Reily did the singin himself which sounded nothin like Ians voice. Mabey if he'd mimmed to Ians voice it would've sounded convinicing. Samantha Morton was good, she was a lot prettier than the real Debbie.
i love how their in the studio recording SHE'S LOST CONTROL then it cuts TO A LIVE CONCERT Fuck Yeah Sam Riley Does it alll badass i think they did a good choice on who they picked to PLay IAN MAY 18 is coming up WE ALL MISS U IAN i will party on MAY18 in memory of You not in memory of your death but on How we all remember anD Miss YOU IAN
