This isn't the first review where I've heard the 2.0 petrol engine is a bit sluggish.

But I've driven a 2WD, 2.0 Petrol RAV4 and to be honest, in my experience, it's far from sluggish.

Could it be the 4WD or Automatic gearbox?

I MISS MY 2002 RAV. HATE MY 2012 FORD FOCUS-Purchased May 27,2011-Test drove nicely until I started driving around Dallas. Dallas to Arlington worst ride ever. Hit or Miss using Voice activated system.600 miles now can't adjust seat, car jumps in drive gear. Not enough room to plug in phone charge.The dealership claimed they were working on moving me to a FUSION.STILL NO FUSION I just want to return the car and get my Rav4. THEY CLAIM TO TAKE CARE OF THEIR CUSTOMERS. STAY WITH TOYOTA!!

The Rav4 is a brilliant all round vehicle, I went to the British Superbike in my Rav at Oulton Park, which is just a mud bath to get out from, I got bored sitting behind the X5's and Rangerovers wallowing and going nowhere, so i just went around them.

The rav4 v6 has insane horsepower, my mom had an 08 and it completely SMOKED my 84 mustang, not just by a little bit either.

Hi I have driven for your info: Rav4, Toyota Hi Lux, Toyota 4runner, toyota Land Cruiser, Range Rover, Mercedes G, Ssangyong all Categories, also Subaru etc and Rav4 in comparison is a piece of shit what concerns its 4x4 technology everything else its a simple car.

The RAV4 is a great car. I am driving it for over 10 years and had never a problem. The "technical problems" seem very much US-made. There are just a few cases in Europe with the accelerator pedal, and there is doubt in most cases, that the car and not the driver did fail.

My car did never fail, neither did the driver. There is always the two of them.

I have RAV4 with just over 28K miles, I noticed clunking noise. It was a steering column problem, and quoted me over 600€ to repair. They said "out of warranty, we won't help you". This is a design/manufacturing flaw ( Toyota Technical Service Bulletin February 8, 2008) that Toyota should be covering.

Toyota has serious mechanical problems the latest is stuck accelerator pedal that toyota cant fix as of date as well as oil flow and electrical problems most all toyota models are affected,toyota got caught hiding its problems

not sure. I am leaning toward to the CRV. Mostly because they are almost the same. I guess the difference is the power? horsepower i guess. dono needa research more XD but i think CRV is better :)

I got the first of 10 2001 model, at 74k miles still runs like new... so far it does not give me any problem after the computer was uploaded with new software?

@monkeysee: because US Diesel fuel contains lots of sulfur. as soon as US Diesel matches european diesel, and fuel prices are equal to ours.

one counterquestion: why don´t they sell the longer version here in europe? and why don´t we get the v6 option?

same reasons, fuel is too expensive, families are smaller in europe so we get smaller cars.

has used daytime running lights a worthy safety feature for about 20 years and they are still not required here, they dragged their feet for many auto advances (airbags, tire pressure monitoring) and often only act when they have to, often to retain a competitive edge. That being said I agree with you, if ever the time were ripe for Toyota to offer a diesel to US auto buyers it is now. God forbid we involve ourselves with Iran $6/gallon prices at the pump can be a very real possibility.
