I love the way you sing that song, I'm a huge fan of Merle Haggard and have been for years now. I especially like the change to the part of the song where you said "Wished a girl could still cook and chop wood" as well as the story behind the change as well. I'd love to see Merle in concert just once myself. keep up the great work.
Like your taste in music. I hail from Clare, found you here today. Saw you and your bros open, in Yarmouth a while back, for Ricky Skaggs. I did not know u were into Merle and Roy Orb. As they say around here "good job", but it good because for you it is not a labour. I like your voice and your guitar. I got my dad's D28 when he passed away, there is lots of pure soul in the 28. Good job, bros.
I absolutely LOVE your style and passion for this song...But one of the lyrics you did not say correctly...It is when a girl could still could still cook and STILL WOULD...not chop wood...FYI but you are amazing and blessed to the T...Love it...
Hi there JPdepta, I realize the lyric you are referring to is not correct, however it was meant to be a bit of a joke pertaining to the lifestyle of people today and also I saw Merle do a live version of this song and he said those exact words and I found it humorous as did the rest of the audience. Its good to see Merle also have a sense of humor. Thankyou for your comment.
As usual, another great song! I really enjoy listening to you play and appreciate what you do. I am still somewhat of a novice guitar player. You are an inspiration to me to keep picking and learning some Merle.

The words in this song ring out more today then when Merle wrote it back in the early 80's. God Help America!
