My cats a bengal and she constantly talks to me. And she has this thing where she runs down the hall and jumps up wall corners and then just keeps running.
I used to only let him out supervised but starting this Spring I've been letting him run free and so far so good. We've got 2 acres fenced to keep our dogs in and other dogs out and Duma seems to stay on our property most of the time.
His meowing (or more like bellowing) got to be so obnoxious when he wanted out that I finally said enough and set him free :)
He's even spent a few nights out ( I lost sleep of course) but has always come home :) (knocking on wood)
@Hateocracy I'm sure you'll enjoy the breed...they make regular house cats seem a bit boring. Duma lives with a dog and 3 ferrets and they all get along fine
@dhaneyart Nice! My last pet I took care of was a 150lb monster of a black lab-- freakishly muscular and a helluva dog to walk on a leash. I think an active Bengal cat will be perfect for me! Also, can I take them for jogs? And would you (or anyone else reading this) know how Bengals are in cold weather?
He's a good boy :) His only bad habit is (during warmer weather) if I go outside w/o him he cries so loud and strange it sounds like he's giving birth to a porcupine...
I got a 12wk Bengal kitten now 4months. she's had diarrhoea since I got her. The breeder said it was coz of a recently change of food and i accepted the explanation. However the vet's tried everything an it just won't stop. She's a typical playful kitten except for diarrhoea. Even the stool sample came back ok... I've done what the vet said including food... An yet your cat eats pastrami an problems. Please, if you have ANY advice how to stop the diarrhoea. I would be forever in your debt. x
Hi there! I'm getting a bengal male (F5) In a few weeks, and he will be a indoor cat. But I would alsoo like to take him out sometimes, dayli if It's possible, and Walk him on a leash, and maybe then have him walk around free with me as a company. But I'm afraid he'll run away as soon as he gets the chance... Do you have to train your cat to stay close to you, or does your cat just stay close to you by himself?
@angelswings19 Almost all cats know where 'home' is (i.e. wherever he gets food = home, lol), and so they would return home. However, it's impossible to have him freely walk beside you, w/o leash....... Cats are simply cats. xD In their eyes, he/she is the owner, and if you're lucky, he/she will pay attn and listen to you~
I would recommend setting him free in a really-tall fenced back yard, where he won't be able to escape, or a harness/leash for him, if you take him outside.
some cats will just follow you around- I used to walk my neighbor's dog and their domestic longhair would follow me all the way to the park and back, which was at least two miles.
Duma was not yet 1 year old in this video...as for training Bengal cats just love to jump and chase so very little training. He loves to get up into high places also.
While out hiking I found what I assume is the tail section of a grouse...feathers none the less...hooked those to some fishing line and an old fly rod...voila :)
haha, i read your comment below, my ginger kitten has " crazyyyy" moments wheree he puffs up and runs around the house so fast you just see a blur of orange :)
I did see the movie and it's what I took the name from. The name Chui (swahili for leopard) would have made more sense but by the time I looked it up the Duma name had already stuck.
@hateocracy I think bengals should do fine in cold weather. I live in ma and my house gets pretty cold but mine does fine.

In USA non-breeding bengals are $200-$500 and high-quality breeders are typically over $1000.

I have heard that cats with spots tend to be crazy.
TwiceTheSinging 3 years ago
well Duma is half stripes and half spots...and he's crazy about 1/2 the time...so I would say your theory is right on the money ;)

I love Bengals - they just seem so barmy!
Interesting name - seen the film, by any chance? (It's about a boy and his pet Cheetah - so almost the same! lol)
DazDaMan 3 years ago
I did see the movie and it's what I took the name from. The name Chui (swahili for leopard) would have made more sense but by the time I looked it up the Duma name had already stuck.
So what's "barmy"?
dhaneyart 3 years ago
"Barmy" = crazy.
Duma sounds better, though. If you were calling out "Chui!", people would be expecting a Wookie to appear! :D
DazDaMan 3 years ago
Duma definately has his barmy moments..but I've never been able to capture them on video.
Ocassionaly invisible creatures chase him through the house and he moves so fast you only see a grey blur :)

where could i get the thing u where using in the yard?
coolmanplayeswow 3 years ago
I think it's a tail from a pheasant?? I found it in the desert...tied it to a fly-fishing rod...swing it around...voila
In any event I'm sure it's bird feathers.
dhaneyart 3 years ago
Very agile, not very smart though—the cat could have reached for the pastrami over the counter instead :-)

What is that you are playing with outside?! I want one for my Bengal boy!! You can check out videos of my boy on my channel.
Georgeheap 4 years ago
The outside toy is a flyfishing rod with regular fishing line tied to what I think is the tailfeathers of a grouse...
I saw your bengal..he's a beauty!
