Discouraged Ones was re-released, and some of the audio was remastered, just like they were able to finally do with Brave Murder Day a few years ago. The original version from 1996 wasn't meant to sound that way, something went wrong and the unmastered tracks were sent of the finalized production mix.

Yeah that's pretty much it if I recall correctly. Anders thought the music was boring and repetitive and Jonas hated the lyrics.

From the old Katatonia mailing list. Jonas and Anders used to actually take part in it as well. This was quite a few years ago now. I believe it was also on their website back in the day as well. I haven't been there in a while so I don't know if that info is still there or not.
