@nike2376 Hahahahaha clearly a freshman. The phoenix have improved vastly since 2007, they just beat the Boca juniors actually, who are clearly better than the galaxy with your washed up Ronaldinho. The match would be tight
@frendil69 First of all the Galaxy beat Boca as well this year. Secondly the Galaxy have vastly improved this year as well and in the beginning of the year they were conversations this was the best American team ever. Last night in US vs Brazil there were 3 LA Galaxy players starting for the US. How many Phoenix guys start for pathetic New Zealand? Third, Ronaldinho is not washed up he's one of the best players on Milan and he's 30. Yeah and I'm a freshman...
@nike2376 hahaha really? I think it was four phoenix players starting for NZ. Tim Brown, (though injured for the world cup, and he is the VC by the way), Mark Paston, Leo Bertos, Tony Lochhead, o yea and Ben Sigmund, so 5, or 4 + 1 injury for the WC
@frendil69 Ok man great they play for New Zealand, I'll name some leagues where New Zealand world cup players play. 2 in the Chinese league, 1 MLS reserve, 1 in American minor leagues, 1 in league one, 4 in the New Zealand league(I didn't even know they had a league), 8 in the damned A-league, 2 in the championship and one in the Prem. Yeah it must be real tought to make the New Zealand national team.
@nike2376 well its actually 3 in the prem league this year, but if you noticed NZ doesnt focus too much on football, we are more into rugby. But even though we have shit all professional football players we were just undefeated in the world cup. If, being an American, you also need to say that you are better than NZ at soccer then go ahead, jizz your pants because you are probably right, all i was saying was you're dreaming if you think the galaxy would still smash the phoenix like they did.
Im Australian and i am fasinated by the german league, i get up in the early hours to watch it. The crouds/fans are amazing best in europe by far, the skill is fantastic and the teams are awsoume. MLS is preety boring tbh, low skill, low crowds not very exiting, i think u should take another look at your league buddy, cause it is the best in the world by far!
If you watch the whole of this match you will see that Wellington Phoenix were the better side, but I won't take away the performance of the Galaxy, they weren't the better side in my opinion but unlike Phoenix they took their chances in-front of goal.
yeh theres 6million people in sydney and 4million in the whole of n.z. good one dickhead
379,000 is the population of wellington(greater) and 32,000 or so attented the game so youll find that more people per population attended a boring exhibition map.
and i was at this game and it was 2 sections empty.
Me and my mate were in NZ visiting his gran when Sydney FC played wellington, earlier this year one of the last games of the season and we decided wed go and watch it and the stadium, you could hear echos, thats how empty it was.
i agree mate... wellington averaged over 12,000 without even having that good of a season. sydney around 16,000. sydney fc fans are pathetic, the SFS should be close to sold out every game with the population they have. they are letting the league down. where are the 80,000+ that showed up for la galaxy? hopefully phoenix grow this season with bigger crowds and better results and unless you guys are playing Adelaide united i'll be cheering for ya
and sprelvis, that's not exactly true. the salary cap system in mls prevents it. players like becks, angel, reyna, they were all bought using a loophole rule just instated this past season. what's funny is the best teams (d.c., houston, new england) didn't even bother using the rule.
although i do agree u arnt fat and can play, you should have more and better players coming out of a country like america, compared to things such as the olympics where USA is at the top
to kooririck u racist motherfucker first of all his name is Pavon he is not black he is from Honduras second of all ur an ignorant prick learn ur football before u open ur ignorant racist mouth motherfucker
Just wondering, if americans call it soccer and british call it football why do some of the U.S clubs have F.C (football club) on the end instead of S.C (soccer club)? just curious.
I imagine that it's and international requirement, governed by FIFA, and that SC would not be a recognised term as the correct name is Football and not soccer. Soccer is just an abreviation for the "association" of football. hope this helps.
FC Dallas' official name is Futbol Club Dallas which is was an attempt to promote the team to the large Mexican-American population in Texas and the SW US.
Toronto FC owes it's name, and attendance success, to it's large immigrant population with fans from Italy, UK, China, and the Carribean to name a few.
hey , the Phoenix played a competitive match the NIGHT BEFORE so considering the players were tired , A US..Australia..Japan..S.Korea club championship could be interesting
why can't they play like this during the season? i hope this is a precursor to how the galaxy will play next year, cuz they just looked so confident and relaxed
looks like it was a good game. i am a LA fan, but i can agree that the PK was BOGUS! I don't like Pavon in the first place, but then this?!?! Who trips over their own feet and doesn't get right back up but instead looks the ref for the PK???
yeah, they have the 3rd worst record in the mls. I think the tour is just to promote the mls and the australian a league because they are both relatively new/unheard of. could the galaxy beat man u? most likely not, but it's nice to see the sport promoted here in the states. the best part about beckham playing in the mls is that soccer/football is becoming more noticed in the us.
i dont get why you all argueing about this crap i went to the game was an exhibition match real football fans didnt fill up the stadium. there was yellow fever and then most of the stadium ws 40year old women and teenage girls
Pretty entertaining for a training session. Looks like a good crowd - hopefully it was a good show.
The penalty for Pavon was a joke though...he tripped over his own feet!
Galaxy really looks out of shape - pretty slow pace. Oh well, it's all about the entertainment in these friendlies - hopefully the fans got their money worth!
mike, you're probably right. at first watch, i thought it a bit harsh but on review, it probably was the correct call. and it gave becks a chance to score...which was a bit odd because landon normally take galaxy's pk's. this is just an off-season friendly so i guess they decided to give the fans what they came to see. good for becks and good for the fans. all in all, it sounds like the tour was a resounding success.
i still think galaxy looked sluggish, but it is the off-season.
anyone else notice both teams are wearing their away strips? whos clever idea was that :s

The US and Australia are emerging football nations. Both have done well in the last 15 years.
Keeping in mind aussie rules and gridiron have not been able to grow elsewhere. So football is doing well.

This is from Australia - Victorian Premier League Reserves Oakleigh Cannons V Melbourne Knights PreSeason 2009..
AMAZING GOAL Lukas Pedder scores direct from a corner
watch?v=VMkP3y_QW3s
If you search YouTube there are not many goals scored straight in from a corner. Baggio did one, Sakiri against England, Mark Bresciano...
