Do you use conventional control? (track voltage governs speed & direction of trains) Also, what company do you use for your locomotives and cars?

I wish I had the time and financial backing (I have a big enough back yard though) to do something like this.
Oh well, I guess an HO scale shelf track around my den/man cave will have to suffice.
