  • i loved seeing scott as he is now, he is a legend, best voice ever !!!!

  • Where did that video clip for "The Cockfighter" come from? I would love to see it.

  • The voice and the look are gone ...what a shame ! but thanks god the memories remain !

By the way the interviewer is wrong, Jacques Brel wasn't french but belgian (like Hercule Poirot !)

  • Actual genius is rare.

  • He was a genuine superstar and a part of the brilliant Walker Brothers. Much as I admire his early work, the later stuff leaves me cold. A true waste of his talent.

  • MrLawman calls his later solo albums trash. I also miss the romantic and lyrical Scott, but I think he simply went beyond general popmusic-based comprehension. Which is his right, as an artist. While not easy and not really pleasant to hear, he deserves respect for these daring musical ideas. He certainly gets it from other pop artist collegues, so he must be doing something good. Maybe in another 10-50 years, he will be named alongside John Cage and Philip Glass.

  • I am a Walker Brothers fan from the very beginning (1965). With the years I was able to collect all their recordings, records, live, rasreties, very rareties, etc. Is till live in the Netherlands but planning to move to South America. Therefor I offer my whole collection (ONLY THE RECORDS VINYL). Cannot take them all with me.

  • @milkyway2211

    for how much??

  • Fine doc Scott Walker - 30th Century Man ! I just watched it free on blinkbox.com.

  • Just want to say how sorry I was to hear of Johns passing. I was in New Zealand & unfortunately he left us on my birthday. I know, Scott, you won't probably see this but if you do........x

  • Scott Walker is a handsome man. I wonder if he still has groupies. That sounds like a venereal disease.

  • He still looks young and healthy. Long may he reign.

  • recently watched a documentary about Scott Walker, what a strange individual he is, loved the walker brothers stuff but his later solo stuff is tripe

  • I swear Jarvis Cocker pops up in every documentary/interview I watch.

  • Very gentlemanly. He says there's already so much music out there that's so 'accessible'...he could easily have said crap.

  • Went to see the Walker Bros in Chester in 1966/7 Loved em and Scott the VOICE just Beautiful. Bloomin Beautiful!

  • Jacques Brel was actually Belgian, the French hi-jacked his nationality and even named a Metro station after him.

  • I don't think Scott subscribes to beauty as being "pretty" or "enjoyable" but he finds that beauty now in the breaking of hearts. Yes. His stuff since 1995 is like open-heart surgery. Painful, but if the heart is very sick, then necessary.

Compassion is the ability to merge the "collective" heart of humanity with your own. I'm not saying he's doing this intentionally. I'm saying he can't help it. And when you see how pained he is, and talks of wanting to move on, I think that's apparent.

  • The guy that gave the introduction looks like he got teleported from the '60s. Love it ;-)

  • A remarkable singer and innovator. Brilliant. He has my respect.

  • Interesting how much this artist influenced Bowie. Lots of similarities in their music.

  • @islandann ..and Pink Floyd too if you ask me

  • does anyone know the song at 05:56 - 06:10 ?

    he is so interesting.

  • @Guitarlady02

The song is called Boychild from Scott 4

  • Jacques Brel was Bengian not French

  • It's a refreshing change to come across an artist who seems to be so level and genuine. I remember the Walker Bros. well from the 60s - my sister (who was 14 and hopelessly in love with Scott) dragged me to one of their gigs when they were playing in our city, and I was absolutely blown over by the singing talent of this guy. John & Gary, not so much, but they made up a nice little trio. I wonder if they ever meet up and jam these days.

  • John Walker is coming to tour in january.

    website johnwalkerinternational. com

  • Super cool guy Scott Walker is so amazing, love U Scott.

  • he reminds me of Dave Chappelle

  • He's like a musical Stanley Kubrick

  • @DafTacoustics

    Great comment!

  • why did he dye his hair? I didn't think recluses were that vain.

  • everyone should buy niteflights!

  • very insightful man and fom the outside seems totally untouched by it all... i would say a thoroughly nice chappie all round !

  • Does anyone know where those video clips of Farmer in the City, The Cockfighter and Rosary are from? They look like music videos or something.

  • I don't quite understand his music (my fault) but Scott Walker's interview is filled with his personal integrity and is one of the most refreshingly genuine and honest interview I have listened to. Today's artists have so much to learn from him. Bravo !

  • @Homingbird8

you sound like a very understanding person. so, what exactly don't you understand?

  • @zarathustra1077 It's just the melody that's hard for me to understand. I fully appreciate what he is trying to say though. I think Jarvis Cocker said it well in the interview " He was definitely painting pictures within your mind but not in a cliche way" . Having said that, I just admire his clarity of thought and his honesty so much. As gabe25591 said ... very dignified, even when in the face of commercial disappointment. Wonderful example of a human being.

  • Poor Scoltt. Could he not afford psychiatric care?

  • @Chomuno old and ugly??? you must live surrounded by beautiful people if you think that,, he looks wonderful for his age, I came face to face with him at the Barbican shows, and he has the most fantastic skin,,,, wonder what cream he uses lol.. seriously,, he looks just amazing for his age

  • @raggedsoldiers I corrected myself in an other comment.

  • @raggedsoldiers I corrected myself in an other comment.

  • F*ck I love this guy..

But he went to inspiring music lovers to inspiring artists to inspiring composers... and forgot about his early music fans. but you gotta still love him

  • I find Scott Walker inspiring. He survived all the roumours of being a burnt-out case, but here he is, entirely sane and intelligent, doing exactly what he wants to do artistically. Go, Scott!

  • The original 30Th century man!

The godlike genius of Scott Walker continues.............

  • I wasn't expecting him to be so... pleasant.

  • There has never been a voice like it, incredible, it is an instrument, in every sense.

  • Great to see Scott again after many years.I Have many happy memories from my teens. What a gentleman in every sense of the word, I hope it is not another 10 years before we hear from him again

  • He looks like Spock with the way his ears stick out, but hell, it's been 40-some-odd years. As long as the man is happy with his life and career, more power to him.

  • @Mufaso1000

Whos cares about the way his ears look like? The man is amazing in every way.

  • For someone in his late sixties, he has aged very well. People who have a problem with age, may soon be taking to the bottle daily. They will be unable to cope with looking in the mirror, realizing that they are no longer youthful. Life happens. That includes aging, unless the alternative looks good. His voice is still magic.

  • @Treaty4 Well said. Very well said.

  • what is the title of the jacques brel song they put on here?

  • It will probably be another 50 or 100 years before we truely realize how big and important an artist Scott Walker is!

  • I hope his next album is soon. I still have hardly any clue what most of Tilt and The Drift are about, but I want another one!

  • Awww Scott you silly goose, you'll live forever

  • Comment removed

  • lol. "No, I'm not consciously trying to avoid people. Well, some people. But no..."

  • I fucking want his god damned voice

  • I think he looks exactly the same but with less hair and I don´t know why, but I miss the fringe (well, not really)

  • God - I didn't see this. I cringe when I hear clueless interviewers saying things like "recluse" to his face. I'm scared he won't do an interview again after he faces yet more banal questions. I'm amazed that he humoured her. He is still charming. I almost expect his eyes to have gone completely black after creating "The Drift" like some demon!. Seriously though, it is singularly amazing piece of work - truly stunning.

  • Good heavens!!! ... Id have never recognised him now

  • i think that scott walker is the most extraordinary case of an artist who was capable of producing beautiful things without any one jot of sensibility for recognizing them. that is his sad history in a single sentence. and now -- let the nasty comments begin!

  • El tipo es un kapo, aprendan aquellos que desean o pretenden "hacer musica" es mejor que se dediquen a Hip Hop que e hibrido para los que no tienen conocimientos musicales

  • @Chomuno

Not to beat up further on you, Chomuno, but I did wince at your comment.

Look, on one level, it's sad- part of the sadness of this life- that his beauty, the beauty he possessed in his twenties, is gone.

But is he ugly? Hardly. I mean, does one find it hard to look at him? I really don't think you do.

As a couple of people said here, he actually has aged well.

So, I guess, I'm saying, mourn the demise of youthful beauty, but don't think of people as they age as as the living dead.

  • You're right, it's not hard to see at him.

In fact, my dearest hope was that he'll make a concert once, these days!

And when I saw this video, I renounced to my wish, and this made me very sad.

I just saw the German Television Interview, before.

But... Such an intelligent man! He partake with me the love for Jacques Brel, an exceptionnal poet!

  • Right you are mababaki. In a sense Walker is better on 'The Drift' than ever before. Judging him by his looks is idiotic and sadly typical of our age. A musician isn't pretty so therefore his or her music isn't worthwhile?

  • Well, considering he´s 67, he looks much better than any other man in his age. And Chomuno... some day you´ll be that old too.

  • Listening to his old stuff and then "The Drift" is just bewildering.

  • He says he'd like to get out the next record before ten years pass. It's been about four, I wonder how he's doing with it.

I don't expect that any sort of updates will come out, since he's so private.

But for most of us, there's enough Scott Walker music to figure out already. I'm sure some people might be working at getting into The Drift. It's not like some music that's in one ear, out the other, and you have the melody in your head for a few days.

  • Happy birthday Scott!

  • Quite evident, Walker is a highly intelligent man

  • Yes -- the 60th were a main decade of wind of change.

Music was the tool - it's nice to see our great musicians like Walker, Bowie and the others in today's vids - they got older but their music is ageless and true!

    !

It blew the wind of change, le

  • "Generally if I've got nothing to say or do, it's pointless to be around"

Very dignified; so many D-list 'celebrities' these days could learn a thing from Walker :]

  • @gabe25591 i could'nt agree more...so many 3rd rate knowbodies around propping up on any TV show, particularly children in need,,a great charity spoilt by the coverage and participation of so called guests.... Anyone desribed as comedy royalty is past it,,,Vic and Bob....the establishment BBC love them because they are tame....

  • this is all material from 30 century man...is somebody doing a show just by putting a comment on other people's documentary? so 30 century man is still the only video material about Scott in the last years I've found...

  • Huh? I own 30th Century Man on DVD and most of this material is not on it.

  • @exinexi

It sort of is, but not everybody has seen 30 Century Man...would you rather the public were unaware of Scott entirely?

  • Magnificent.

    Be well, Noel, my dear.

  • the big sleep by bat for lashes features scott walker

  • Thank you for posting

  • His speaking voice has completely changed

  • Wow, the guy at the beginning has John Cleese's voice :-D

  • Very sloppy piece! So Brel was French not Belgian. Scott 'disappeared' in the late 60's and didn't resurface until Climate of THE (sic) Hunter and therefore didn't really make No Regrets and the brilliant Nightflights albums with his 'brothers'. Not being precious but he deserves a lot more respect.

  • @propaganda68 Jacques Brel was Belgian.

  • Genius. One of very few around at this time; still pushing things, and out there, genuinely so.

Sharp interviews Walker likes it's Smash Hits. What a poor excuse of an arts programme The Culture Show is; and saying Brel was French when he was Belgian! Hilariously bad research - shameful! The Drift is ill-served by this show. Compare the last Walker LP, Tilt, and it being featured on the infinitely superior, The Late Show.

    There's no-one is Walker's league.

  • Very bizarre, he speaks in a tenor voice but his siniging voice is a baritone.

  • His solo albums also had brillient arrangements. Peter Knight Wow! Those strings and that voice will burn into your head...

  • cool guy. i should get the boy child 67-70 compilation

  • You should get all his work, including the much underrated Walker Brothers.

Compilations are always too incomplete to reveal a genius of an artist or band.

And with Scott Walker you can't go wrong with any of,at least, his 60's stuff, or if you are more avant-garde, his latest offerings.

  • cool thanks! i saw his first four albums all on re-issued vinyl stacked in a row at a downtown record store in Montreal last week but I didn't have the $!!!

  • @Ze18613 Agreed...Personally, I think anyone interested in Scott Walker should just start with Scott one, Scott 2, Scott 3 and 4...just work your way up (Tho, I love the Walker Bros. Stuff too, so you could start there as well) but generally, I think that's the best way to approach Scott Walker-if you can't handle or dig Scott 4 then don't even think of getting any of his later work, because you'll prolly hate it!

  • @happykilojoule My suggestion would be that you get the first four albums he released solo instead. It's the more expensive way to go but it is worth it for sure. I went with "Boy Child" first and found that having all four albums was better. Just a friendly recommendation.

  • great video...love it ,he had a beautiful voice and was a great guy my sis knew him,,,,,,,,he was so natural.,....thnaks for this great show!!!!!

  • You make it sound as if he's dad, blondiebabs....he's just a little reclusive.

  • scott walker is strange and great!!! scott walker 4 is a great album...

  • A lot more natural interviewer than I'd have thought (or that he probably once was).

  • great decade when these guys ruled the airwaves

  • Thanks so much for this! He looks so much more at ease now speaking about himself and his music; it's like he's finally found a glimpse of what he's been loooking for for the past 45 years and it has given him some inner peace at last.

Anyway, I don't think anyone could ever claim to 'get' him, he's just on another level. The best description I've ever heard of him was here on YouTube: 'he's been to the future and is trying to tell us about it'.

    Thank you Scott, for existing.

  • Intelligence and creativity just exudes from his words and works.

    Bravo Scott!

  • I remember buying his cd The Drift and putting it on in my car on the way home. I was lucky to get home in one piece.

  • So true. whenever I listen to cue or jesse, i drop stone dead.

  • @zorbadegeek LOL !!

  • he really looks like hunter s thompson ^^

  • I never ever heard an artist which spands form celestial, delicate and exquisite bridges, to build the most personal and honest dystopian landscapes in the history of music. A godgiven gift of inspiration through generations of listeners and artists. Thank you so much for showing me your galaxy of sound Scott. An artist of the octarine colour o sound magic..

  • Watching this again, I notice that the interviewer is a very good-looking and intelligent woman.

  • Yes, that's Verity Sharp!

  • Happy birthday Scott!

  • Thanks for this post. Looking forward to the movie....opens tomorrow in New York.

  • Thanks for uploading this! I was hoping someone would re-upload this eventually! I was looking for it for a long time....

    Wonderful clip of Scott!

  • Thanks for the ad I really found it to be quite

interesting. I have been wanting to see something on Scott of this nature.
