  • The mystery of the cover image?

The artists name maybe Giovanni Bragolin. Look up the myth of the Crying Boy.

  • Would someone please tell me who painted this picture? The same picture is hanging in my grandfather's room... :)

  • I still can't believe I actually saw David Tibet with my own eyes.

  • My granny used to have something very similar this picture hanging in her living room!!!

  • There is something eerie, evil in this song, although the text. But it is the same wonderful

  • can't find the tabs anywhere :(

  • Wetew

  • Nick Cave improves everything.

  • i got surprised when i found my favorite musicians are friends or they work together.

  • My mom used to sing the lullaby to me when I was little. I think it's just one of the songs that everyone knows.

  • @jojephin07 in your opinion is it worthy checking his muic?

  • @chrall92 YES. he is a genius, in his own way.

  • One of the best bands in the world. I love this. Perfection. So beautiful and sad. You should also check out ''Fragile Bones(Feels Like Home)'' by Ali Murray. Also Perfection. Also beautiful and sad.

  • finally,Current 93 here in Athens again today 24 March.Thank you guys at last i will see you live,my wish come true

  • The whisper in the back freaks me out...

  • its good for you,

  • Terrific song, but the chord is a distinct Julia Dream ripoff...

  • there's also a beautiful version by Calexico on YouTube (watch?v=iytkbMbahvY)

  • who is Nick Cave and Current 93?I came here from Death in June to Current 93 and then here...

  • Comment removed

  • @chrall92 its a guy named nick cave playing with current 93...

  • wow I have to put this on the compilation for my sons

  • I can't stop listenning to it...

  • Current 93 was/ is hundred times better than Nick cave (and the bad seeds). but they don't have so good marketing and of course glamour like Nick Cave or Blixa Bargeld

  • @sveikasveta just can´t say one band is better than another, it´s stupid. You might say that current 93 are more sophisticated and doing art while Nick Cave is doing populare music. Both can handle there instruments with an equal quality.

  • @Madowstone of course I can say. Is my opinion, I respect your opinion but I can write whatever I want.and you too.I have heard Nick Cave and I have heard Current 93 from many years ago. And after the time. I see very clear Nick cave is marketing, he has few good songs (that I like), but only few. Current 93 has dozens good songs. So to make comparasion between Current 93 and Nick cave is very interesting to see which one is more popular.

  • @Madowstone So to wirte my opinion is not stupid.because I knjow about what I'm talking about. You can write eahtever you want, even say wahtever you want. What I wrote is my opinion.thanks for yours.

  • Makes me feel so alone...

  • @3third3eye3 same... =(

  • Oh this is so wunderful... Couldnt stop listening to it for like three weeks <3

  • wow never knew this was NIck Cave. makes me appreciate this version a lot more.

  • nick cave is usually pretty depressing, but he nailed this one!

  • Anyone know how David Tibet and Nick Cave came to know each other? It would have been great if they had collaborated in more projects instead of just two songs.

  • i love this song

  • Beautiful song but horrible reasoning behind it :`( Poor Lady and her children.

  • watch?v=YmuVMQp1lQw

  • @emokittenroxx no u!

  • wow! after hearing the real reason for the song.I kinda hate the song :( it hurts to her that a woman had to let her baby die while taking care of someone elses....

  • I appreciate C93 to a point, but I can't fathom why they have such a fawning, passionate audience. I'm glad they do, I just don't get what the hype is. David seems to approach each song with the exact same vocal delivery (not singing), and it usually sounds like he's REALLY over emphasizing things. The music is pretty repetitive and seems to vary only slightly in each song. I respectfully ask for someone to explain why they're so in to C93. Thanks.

  • @SubconsciousGatherer I like the humour. And the drama. And the tunes.

  • I heard a version of this song once without nick cave and david tibet wasn't whispering, just singing regularly. Does anyone knows annything about it ?

  • @OliverDaves - I'm so glad to find another fan of this song! My college professor "assigned" it to me for my final exam - I wanted to do an aria from "La Traviata" or "Aida", but...well...the horses paid off in the end. It was the only "lullaby" that would put my nephew to sleep at 3am!

  • Two of my favorite artists! Nick Cave changed my life a long time ago, and Current 93 has done so in the past year or so. It's perfect...

  • when you wake you shall have all the pretty little horses...

  • I used to listen to Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds so much, and for some reason I hadn't in a few years. Really feels good to hear his voice again on such a beautiful piece, I'm a fan of both Current 93 and Nick Cave so this is a wonderful combo for me.

  • i love this song....soha!! whats up? =p

  • @SOHASDEAD

I agree with you I just saw Current 93 yesterday in Berlin. Fantastic. Just magic.

  • @SOHASDEAD for some reason, I also used to listen to Cave a bunch and then just stopped.

  • this is dark lol

  • awesome and fandastic!!!!

  • I like this one more than calexico... jjj but I like both

  • what is the "keks" in the song by Calexico? some mexican slang?

  • lol, its german and means cookie. i wrote it there. ;-)

  • @Dreamprince23

    not true!!!! lol

  • that calexico gave the song a totally different "stimmung" (mood);

imo, the two songs can not be compared anymore

  • oh man i havent heard this is YEARS! love it.

  • this is not mainstrem music ... thats all !!! all the pretty little horses

  • Fantastic!

  • AWESOME

  • Don'chya love Michael Cashmore?

  • I'm gonna sell all I have and give it to the kittens! :)

  • I absolutely love "where the long shadows fall" by these guys.

  • triste, ma bellissima!

splendida anche la versione dei Calexico!

  • The song was created by a black woman who had to look after her master's child, while her own child died from neglect. She would sing this to the masters white child. It is right that it has such a sad sound to it really. The little lamb crying for its mommy is obviously her own dead/dying child. The original had the lyric "birds and butterflies, peck at his eyes", but it had to be changed to the less violent version...for the kids and all.

  • how very sad.. i didn't know that.

  • This is really sad.. Can you say to me please where do you know from this story? It would be interesting for me. Thank you!

  • wikipedia ;)

I actually knew about it before I saw it on wikipedia, but it says on there about it if you want any confirmation

  • Thank you ;) I Didn`t thought at Wikipedia..my fault!

  • How gruesome!

  • No way, thats really horrible. For something so nice it really has a dark meaning.

  • many things do

  • @eatcress he changed it for kids?

    this is me being skepitcal

  • @misterbuckethead

Nick cave didnt change it, probably a different artist from an earlier time who did a cover of the song changed it, and thats the general accepted version now

  • @eatcress Dear Fuck thats heart breaking :(

  • @eatcress naw, I think you're just making shit up.

black history is a giant plagerism fest.

  • @vegsdraugr if you are going to criticise an academic discipline with no evidence of your own and just a vague opinion, at least learn how to spell plagiarism

  • @vegsdraugr ... plagiarism (note he spelling), means copying something else, not making up something untrue...

  • @eatcress wow i didnt know , thats cool to know thanks

  • @eatcress

If I listen to these lyrics it seems to me that this is written as an interpretation of Christianity...

Go to sleep little baby, when you wake you shall have all the pretty little horses

(live your life devoid of reality, later there will be heaven)

    Way down yonder lies etc

    (your true essence crying out)

Rest your head upon the clover

(comfortably rest on a beautiful story)

    Whilst your mammy's watching over

    (God)

  • @eatcress not even dead or dying child, but even simply the one she's separated from, who's going to sleep alone while she sings to the master's child. heart-rending either way you choose to interpret it.

  • @eatcress

what is the name of the artist who has written the orginal of this song?

  • @eatcress You should hear Anna Domino's version. It's on the first Snakefarm album.

  • @eatcress Yeah, kill somebody else's kid and expect them to treat yours right. Slavery was a shit instutition and all, but do you really believe that reverse-propiganda line for a second?

  • @eatcress it does not hide the song's distubance

  • @eatcress thanks u for the info!

  • @eatcress it was nice being helpful and informative while most of other's comments usually are not;))

  • No la conocia esta canción. Muy bonita.

    ; -)

  • has anyone heard the version done by grant campbell

in the movie the burrowers at then end the songs comes on. It is sooo good. His interpretation of the song is awesome.

  • absolutely chilling and perfect, though i can't find it anywhere

  • absolutely chilling and perfect for the movie

  • I like both Tibet's and Cave's versions, awsome song, awsome artists

  • ...all the pretty little horses...

  • ggod luck to the best

  • Me encanta esta cancion :)

  • A imagem faz parte da serie de quadros sobrenaturais com imagens de crianças chorando. Uma lenda urbana...

  • It is very beautiful. xxx

  • It's quite odd, don't you think?

  • Yes, and in its oddness lies its charm.

I've heard a few versions of this Copland classic, but this is by far my favorite.

  • Yea!

I didnt want to hear it, becouse i thought that is not any special.

Now i know it isn't. Its just Perfect and freaking beautifull!

    Like Wide Awake xd

  • Me too :D

  • now i can listen to this whilst reading 'wide awake'!!!!! xx

  • I absolutely love wide awake. im actually reading it at the very moment

  • Yeah me too^^

  • lol. I love Wide Awake :D

  • The very start sounds like Pink Floyd. Fantastic song though.

  • I think that Pink Floyd may have adapted the intro for Julia Dream from this lullaby. It is rather old from what I know.

  • That's exactly what song it is. I couldn't put my finger on it. I love the whole relics album. One of their most underrated albums. The Nile song is great too.

  • I agree, Cirrus Minor is also really cool. I wish Gilmour would have finished the last guitar part and cut out some synth, but it is an awesome song regardless. The first time I heard Julia Dream I was coming off a very strong acid trip. I immediately purchased the album. I have since quit the drug, but not the album.

  • Awesome :)

  • Current 93 with Nick Cave > everything

    ;)

  • Its a traditional southern lullabye. Nick transforms it into a sort of sad lament as if for a dying or deceased child. Amazing

  • i lold

  • I like this, I like this very much. Nick Cave is God.

  • So why don't do provide us the original video sung by David Tibet, so that we could make our own opinion? Anyway this song is magnificent, and there is is an anguish in Nick Cave's voice too...

  • this actually is the original song from the Current 93 album "All The Pretty Little Horses". The opening track is the same song with the words whispered by David Tibet, and Nick Cave sings the reprise at the end of the album.

  • big THANKS !

  • Bees and butterflies

    Flitting round his eyes

    Poor little thing is crying

    "Mammy"

    piękny kawałek

    łaskotki też;]

  • I love this... two absolutely amazing voices... thankyou to my lovely friend Anne for sharing this with me :)

    Thanks for posting

  • Nick cave is my favorate singer/songwriter of the last 25 years. However, I really prefer David Tibet's voice for this song. Much creepier. If cave danger is psychotic, Tibet's is nuerotic, and this song suits that approach more I feel.

  • I prefer nick cave with the whisper ...

  • is there a video on here for the original?

  • I absolutely agree with U :) beautiful, amazing song

  • Great Song! Also the double vinyl is suberb!

  • we have to play this song for band class

  • cool band class!

  • Great song from The Best Album Ever.

  • The lyrics are not Cave's... they are from Blaise Pascal's books

  • Patripassian?yes.

  • Right, I confounded this song with Patripassian, if what you wrote is what I understood0

  • The lyrics a

  • I really lov this sing and the great voice of Nick Cave....just amazing

  • hell yeah.
