However whenever i felt like they were starting to effect me be it physically or mentally i would go off them for however weeks or months it would take to feel normal again.

I'm from Vancouver as well, and I can tell you that the downtown eastside is a whole different world. It's like you walk around the corner and you go from a normal city-scape to skid row, shopping cart strip-malls. There's like hundreds of people just standing around on the sidewalks doing nothing, mumbling to themselves. If those people even think you have a nickel on you, they will stick you up. It's insane

Most drug use is related to extreme depression even if the addicts don't want to admit how low their self worth is, it probably is very low. So if they're weak people like you say we need to help build them up not make them feel even worse.
