  • Al Bowlly. If you love his voice, and music as i do, dont you feel that people who havent heard him are missing out? To be a fan, it lifts you up to a new dimension. His wonderful talent lives on, and i wish i could have thanked him for the lives he has changed. Just adore him.xxx

  • Sorry to read of your sad time, Wessex. Hope you yourself have had the courage to continue listenining to such music as this ?

  • Dnload the audio from this video at thetunify doht cohm.

  • @Wessex43 I hope and pray God lifted you up during the time you described, and has continued to do so since then. Without his love, none of us could survive things that come our way, particularly things as catastrophic as you described.

  • These songs are pretty and cute, I love hard rock, alternative rock, grunge, heavy metal, cyber metal, art rock, classic country, classic rock, classic music, classic songs, and instrumentals. If you only enjoy one genre of music you're missing out on a lot of beautiful music and I feel for you.

  • Just recently discovered Al Bowlly thanks to YouTube. Love this music. I always thought I should have been born 50 or 60 years earlier.

  • This man is in another dimension compared to anyone else. Will there ever be anyone as good as Al Bowlly again?

  • All these commentaries are very touching! I really love this song. He was a great performer. I am 60 years now, living in Brazil. Thanks for posting!

  • al bowlly's voice sounds different on this :s

  • I find it hard describe my emotions when listening to these wonderful melodies that

were lost to most of us prior to FANTASTIC YOU TUBE. thanks again to you all

  • Every dance ended with this song in 1940s. Love this song.

  • so wounderful!

    wunderschön....!

    Thanks 4 posting!

  • I just bought & remodeled a house to give my total sweetheart of an uncle a good place for his last years. He has started singing this song to me (as far as he can remember) every night after he is tucked into bed. Reading the comments here, I wonder if he is saying goodbye in a larger sense, but hopefully we will still have some years together.

  • We "Wrinklies" tend to choose to recall all the good things of our younger lives. And good music and lyrics, well sung, are re-called with affection. To be honest, what we are really doing, is wishing we were all young again! We cannot "Live In The past" But it's a great place to re-visit!

  • Einfach super, diese alten Songs

  • I really love this music, and have a great appreciation of it as REAL music where instruments work in harmony, the lyrics are well written and the singer, well they can sing! But to all those thinking the past was a utopia and a rose-tinted life of "old '78s" and "walking the streets and everyone had their door unlocked", think again. My experience as a historian talking to people (such as my family) who lived through from the 20s to the 80s show we have a very subjective view.

  • My sympathies..I love this song too. Susanne x

  • Super wonderful blast from the past

    Thanks Judie for sharing

  • Oh Thanks Lee... what a coincidence... this one is lovely... Gute Nacht....

  • This song was played at my Nan's funeral as the service ended and people were leaving the church. R.I.P Nan, taken suddenly from us 19/05/10 aged 81. Happy Birthday for Tuesday (28th September). Miss you xxx

  • to all you people who have posted. This beauiful music is a thing of the past.....too bad, even though I'm 69, growing up as a teen in the 50,s was utopia. I remember my mom and day getting out the oud turntable and playing the old 78,s and Ray Noble was one of there favorites. Al Bowlly sang in his band. I still like this kind of music. It melts my heart

  • Lovely cats and great music. I love Al Bowlly !

  • Bing Crosby put out this record also. Equally lovely as Al's.

  • I absolutley adore this.

  • You have made my day!

    Best regards from Belgrade

    Dejan

  • Beautiful. Love the words.

  • Wessex43, I know how you feel; I too lost my wife to BC 12 years ago after 45 years of togetherness and this song brings back a flood of memories. We would often dance together to Bowlly and the 30s-50s music. Good things don't last forever.

  • Al Bowlly is my dads favourite artist,,,i got so used to listening to his songs that i even sang it walking to school...

  • Priceless!

    Ausgezeichnet!

Thank you, 1900JME1959 !!! You have made my month!

  • Notice Al's slip-up with the words? He sings "when we meet tomorrow" instead of "till we meet tomorrow" at 0.58. He makes the same mistake at 2.51. Mind you, in 1931 and with the wax masters they used in those days it was probably easier (and a bit cheaper) just to let it pass!

  • Great track of the 1930s few give off ambiance and decadence of the era than Al Bowlly. I love 1930s music and have done so since a child. I am still a young person and people think its odd a young person is listening to it. But i am gald to be unique

  • Does anyone know which band is playing here? It doesn't sound like Ray Noble.

  • @MaxHeimst Snake HipsJohnson He was killed in the Cafe de Paris in the London Blitz 1941

  • The original Star Trek episode called THE CITY ON THE EDGE OF FOREVER used this song. Kirk and Spock travel back in time to fetch McCoy who has changed history. All three land in the 1930s depression era Chicago. Kirk falls in love with a woman from that time: Edith Keeler. As Edith and James are walking past a radio shop, you can hear "Good Night Sweetheart". They look at the stars, then at each other and then the screen fades to black with the music still playing, leaving room for imagination.

  • absolutely correct! The episode you refer to was one of the classic epidsodes of the original series. Worth mentioning, was that the episode featured a very young and beautiful Joan Collins as the ill-fated heroine, Edith Keeler.

  • Lovely oldie song.......

  • 10**********!!! Real classic! Cheers!

  • thank you love this song , dennis

  • so beautiful i love 1930s music even thought im young

  • Check out the great Richard Thompson's tribute to Al Bowlly with "Al Bowlly's In Heaven" on the Daring Adventures album. Brilliant!

  • Wessex43: Thank you for sharing - every blessing!

  • Al Bowlly was the dreamiest of all male vocalists, ever. He was an amazing guy, and it's tragic that he should be killed in his own bed late at night by a German landmine bomb during the London blitz in April 1941. The air raid sirens had sounded earlier on but he chose to stay in his bed reading a cowboy book rather than go down to the shelters and took his chances, but his luck ran out on that occasion.

  • This is sooooooooooo sweet !!!

  • I am caring for my wife who is passing with breast cancer. lots of mets in bones and the end is quite close I fear. But this is a "must" at St Andrews its a "say goodbye" before our last moments over Bowleaze Coveway Weymouth. A life together.

  • @Wessex43 so very sorry for you hope you are coping such a sad message i lost my husband with cancer such a cruel illness and you can only be there with them there is nothing else you can do.

  • @Wessex43 its many months since you posted this, so I'm guessing your wife may have passed by now. I hope you find peace. The memories of your life together will sustain you.

  • @Wessex43 I seen ur comment ,that is really sweat wat u want to .u posted this comment of over a year .

what happened to ur wife if u dont mind me asking ??

  • @Wessex43 This is unbelievable, of all the millions of users on YouTube, and i had to stumble across you! I live in Dorchester, (next to Weymouth) and i have been searching for Goodnight Sweetheart to play at my Nan's wake tomorow. My Nan also died of Breast Cancer, not long ago. This song had me and my mother in tears when hearing it. My Nan also loved Weymouth, so i'm really stunned at this and felt i needed to comment. My sympathy for your loss also.

  • @Wessex43 "lots of mets in bones" WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?

  • @Wessex43 My sympaties to you Wessex. I suppose after 2 years that your dear wife has passed on. Nothing can repace a lifetime of memories, but I hope you are well and getting on with life. Hugs.

  • I love the show, and the theme fits so well, I like at the end of the first episode of season one how it ends with Garry saying, Goodnight Sweetheart.

  • im always wondering just why was that part at he beginning,it seems just so random and unalike any other part of the song!

and seing the dvds are available so affordably,i think im gonna go have a click!
