  • storage wars finish with the great business for a few people, guys doing flips to get cheap units, now there is a bounch of pleople biding for all.no more good deals

  • what a joke, everyone in the business knows the owners or managers of the storage places toss ( cherry pick) all the lockers before the put a

"fresh" lock on the unit t enhance the idea its unknown stuff.

  • @MURPHYJUNK Maybe you should ask the storage facilities what their lock cutting and inventory procedures are. Our company cuts locks, video's and inventories from the door, many companies follow this procedure using a seal when completed and this helps reduce those problems.

  • i know this place, here is ballpark self storage located in san diego downtown,2 blocks to the petco park,i bought units cheaps but with small rats and roaches included, this is a homeless area,no units for more than 60 dlls.i can still feel rats jumping in my pants.good guy dan dotson

  • @ Dan: Have you or Laura ever had to eject a bidder/spectator @ an auction for bad behavior or interupting the auction?

As a auction bidder I don't have much patience for people reaching into the units.

Also babies belong in the nursery not @ the auction crying during the bid.

A very common Auction disrespect I see up here in the north valley (north of sacremento CA) is the loud cell phone talker. During Bidding or the Auctioneers instructions.

  • @tvodden We have had to eject a few people from the auctions over the years due to bad behavior or disruptions, We do not tolerate folks going into the units, as far as baby's crying... That does not bother me too much.

  • Do u shop on Ebay at all? Dan is the #1 auctioner out there!

  • We have a great following. Most folks are repeat customers, some for more than 25 years. New people trinkle in and try their luck or just come to watch. Bidders each bid differently, some flash their lights to signal a bid, others just move a finger or wink an eye. It all happens in under a 30 seconds and we go on to the next one. thx for the comment

  • There's quite A bit of people that show up to bid on them units. Do A lot of these people show up every week to bid on units. It looks like a bidding war out there. Must get harry sometimes with late bids coming in?

  • We have been extremly busy with auctions and forclosure appraisals the last few months and it has been tough to get the footage and do the editing, But we are due for another video soon, I will do some work on it. Thanks for the compliment

  • I would like to know when are u gonna put some more of your great videos up. I love watching them?

  • When are u gonna post up some more videos?

  • Nope, no pony's for me, Black Jack is my game

  • This unit looks like much in there! But them bidders do take chances on them units!

  • Yes sometimes they do take great chances and sometimes it pays off and other times they end up working very hard for little return.

  • U look like A horse player? Do u gamble on Delmar,Hollywood, and Santa Anitia?

  • Very intersting! As A buyer u can get A great deal or A bunch of junk. It looks like a great gamble.

  • A modern day treasure hunt

  • I like your video! I also rent A storage unit myself A 10x10. I was thinking about going to some of these auctions but I would have no room to go thru this stuff. I am already paying $101 A month. I make sure that gets paid every month. Do some of the former tennants come back and bid on there long lost stuff?

  • Sometimes the former owners do come back and bid on their items. Usually the facilities will still go after moneys that are due them. Also when a former tennant tries to bid, the regular buyers usually bid them up, thinking that there may be a treasure. Sometimes more than they owed to begin with.

  • Do u ever buy any of them units before they go on bids to the public?

  • We never bid on units. The bidders have a hard enough time making their money without the auctioneer snapping up the good deals. When in the rare case that a very small crowd decides they are not going to compete and they are accually working together we do reserve the right to bid as we have a responsibility to our facilities to get a fair price for their units.

  • What would one of the buyers do if they found a social security card, id, old mail, passport in that stuff?

  • Buyers are instructed to bring back to facility all personal goods including pictures, financial statements, passports, etc.

  • The auctioneers only sell the goods of the tennants that fail to pay their rent. It is a necessary evil.

  • So u have 1st dibs on the units before they go up for auction? Have u ever got some good deals thru them storrage auctions for yourself? U can even sell A lot of them items from them units on ebay?

  • We have an ebay service that we provide to our clients. We do not bid on units, Nor do we bid on any sealed containers or boxes at our week end Moving and Storage auctions

  • I like your job! Get them bidders jumping up!

  • Thanks for all the great comments

    Aceswillwin

  • Uh they just sell people stuff?

  • yep - if you don't pay

I own self storage, and in the contract the tenant agrees to the owner takes a lien on the goods in the unit if rent is not paid. There are laws surrounding the lien depending on the location. Most states require one or two certified letters to the tenant and public notice of the auction. The owners are trying to recoup the losses from the back rent, and almost always lose money on the auctions. But its the legal way to empty out a storage unit for paying customers.
